Slightly creaky, quite resinous
Since I only know a few fragrances from Davidoff, I cannot compare "Horizon Extreme" with similar perfumes from this house. I can only note what I actually smell. And that is neither particularly bad nor super exciting. Somewhat of a middle ground.
At first, the scent seems to have a "sharp" note, which could possibly come from ginger. Underneath and in the "after-scent," there is a hint of herbal-spicy rosemary. This "episode" comes across quite bright thanks to the grapefruit. But that doesn't last long. A little later, "Horizon Extreme" can't quite decide whether it wants to remain bright and somewhat sharp or become dark and slightly "dull." For quite a while, this somewhat "half-silky" indecisive banter oscillates between both possibilities.
It then boldly chooses the "dark side." Very peppery at first, then sinking deeper into woody and resinous realms. From there, I quite like the scent, as this phase also constitutes the main part of the entire fragrance. With a "general" longevity of about 6 hours on me (where I can still perceive it well), the "Dark Wood Phase" makes up at least two-thirds.
It remains a little "Rumpelstiltskin," but I can't hold that against it, as this dark benevolence is also part of its character.
First a little "fidgety," then a creaky forest dweller ;-))

An "Intense" would have been better
Unlike so many others, I quite like "Horizon." However, it is too weak for me. Therefore, I hoped (and still hope) for an "Intense" version that truly deserves that definition. That could be genius....
When Horizon Extreme appeared, I hoped to encounter a more intense horizon here. And when I saw the pyramid, it could have been even more interesting for my taste than Horizon. Unfortunately, that was not the case!

It starts, as expected, fruity and unexpectedly smoky. That's already interesting.

After an hour, however, a synthetic sweetness develops that, along with the fruity smokiness, reminds me of Rammstein's Black Ash or Diesel Bad Intense. I might enjoy smelling that, but I would never want to wear it. Unfortunately, this sweetness gives the fragrance an increasingly strong "cheap vibe."

After six hours, the performance is then at an end. The annoying sweetness is now gone. In the close-to-skin area, it has become woody-smoky, which makes it very interesting for me. But unfortunately, it's much too late. This is how I would have wished it from the beginning.

Horizon Extreme is, for me, a rather interesting scent in the opening, but unwearable from the first hour onward. It is by no means comparable to Horizon. What a shame!

So I am still waiting for the Horizon Intense.

Extreme is different, but a solid herb-fruity wood scent
I don't know the standard version of Horizon, so I can't make any comparisons.
The Extreme version starts fruity-citrusy with sour-sharp notes, which are likely due to the ginger. Soon, woody notes of cedar, sandalwood, and cypriol join in. The latter is supposed to remind one of agarwood and is likely responsible for the slightly balsamic quality that resonates in the scent. I really like the mix of fruity-angular and woody aromas here. Of course, the fragrance is not free from synthetics and is not a paragon of complexity, but as an all-rounder, it is certainly more than acceptable.
The longevity is around 5 hours, which is on par with a decent EDT (by today's standards), but unfortunately, the packaging says "Eau de Parfum." Oops. For that, it's rather a weak performance. So be it.
I believe as a lover of woody scents, you won't make too big of a mistake here. The price should be decisive. I would never have gone for it at the regular price, but that's what the big red discount store is for :-) 30 euros for 125 ml is quite a challenge. So then, summer can (finally) come...

Uncanny Deja Vu of the Davidoff Kind
"Horizon" was one of the most boring fragrances - not just last year, but of all time. It couldn't get any lamer from Davidoff. It didn't hurt anyone, yet it was so incredibly pale, arbitrary & *yawn*, that one could only shake their head. When compared to the namesake Guy Laroche gem from a few years ago, Davidoff must feel embarrassed in the corner. Anyway! The success seemed too significant to avoid a flanker. Now comes "Horizon Extreme"... does it take the boredom to a new extreme?

No, it's not that bad. I like it better than the original, but it has very little to do with it. Still a shock: it is a blatant copy of Calvin Klein's failure (but actually decent fragrance) "Encounter". An encounter, close to the horizon & close to a crash. Anyone familiar with the CK scent will hardly notice any differences after a few minutes. "Horizon Extreme" starts with a synthetic grapefruit & then transitions into a peppery gloom. In "Encounter," it is supposed to be oud, here it is probably leather - neither is likely correct & neither is identifiable. I hate to say lab sludge, but here it is appropriate. And then it’s also copied. Brazen. Brrr.

That said, I actually like the scent itself, despite its extremely synthetic approach. The Axe deodorant generation should find it quite sharp. I really don't understand why "Encounter" never became a bigger hit. And yet "Horizon Extreme" misses the mark in almost every respect. Not a flanker to the original, not extreme, the color of the bottle/liquid doesn't fit, it doesn't radiate freedom or anything similar & is also cheaply copied. Nope, that not only results in deductions in the B-grade. The scent would probably get a 6.5-7.5, similar to "Encounter" back then. But the circumstances drag it down. Deep into a swamp where Davidoff surely wants nothing to do with... Glugglug.

Bottle: I like the darker shade... but overall still a wallflower bottle.
Sillage: Flanker names are sound & smoke... Average would fit better than Extreme.
Longevity: 5 hours... meager.

Conclusion: Davidoff goes "Encounter" - not quite as arbitrary & lame as the original "Horizon". A hit, however, smells completely different. When Davidoff chases Calvin Klein, the customer ultimately loses. A tragedy.

I find it fresher than the usual one. I have both and can tell them apart well. A nice scent for the months ahead.

Shouldn't perfume be noble and elegant in sound? This EXTREME always comes off as a bit tacky.

The horizon has now been reached 2x - time for something new and to switch up the perfumers instead of resting on laurels, what a shame.

Annoying trick. First the weak stuff and then something somewhat (?) strong afterwards. Plus a hefty price increase.

Not so bad. Actually very similar to Encounter. I find the latter better though. This one feels a bit cold/distant.

The DNA reminds me of Boss Hugo from the 90s. No one needs it, and it has a musty, sharp note. H&S is pretty good.
