Noble Cars in Vetiver Mist
For the 100th anniversary of Bentley Motors on June 7, 2019, Eight & Bob released a perfume limited to 500 bottles. According to the company's own confession, it was created for owners or lovers of vehicles from this brand, which is arguably the most exclusive currently held by the VW Group. After all, Bentley supplies state cars and is a royal supplier to, among others, the British royal family.
I believe there is no one who denies the luxury vehicles their style and elegance. Since 1919, and especially after the merger of Bentley and Rolls Royce, they have stood for nobility and exclusivity like hardly any other brand.
I was all the more pleased to be able to acquire one of the 500 bottles, exactly number 012, as can be read on the genuine silver label, hand-engraved. And no, I am not a Bentley or Rolls Royce driver. Not yet, anyway, because one can still dream. My appreciation for elegance in automobiles has so far only extended to Jaguar, but that is another story, and the elegant big cat has its own fragrant tributes.
The black heavy bottle with a heavy silver cap is noble and valuable, not least because of the silver label, which depicts the brand's typical grille.
The bottle comes in an elegant, oversized packaging; understatement is done differently.
Now, onto the scent. An elegant representative of vetiver. It does not develop; it is immediately present with one of the softer vetiver notes, and the tonka bean adds a certain aromatic sweetness to the scent, which would otherwise come across as rather masculine for a unisex fragrance.
Anyone who likes vetiver should test it. It does not reach the heights of Roja's Vetiver, which I really like, and it vaguely reminds me of Encre Noir Sports, but it has something special. Perhaps it is indeed the fine balance of both notes. I would have expected a bit more pomp & circumstance, more splendor and fireworks. But it remains elegant and yet linear. Perhaps the creation represents exactly the connection between high engineering in the drive, the solidity of the chassis, and the elegance of the body that is so characteristic of noble cars.
I see, or better yet, smell the fragrance more on an elegant gentleman over 40. But ladies who like vetiver could also embrace it in their hearts.
