Riding a Dragon
Opulent, ambery, spicy, incense/woody. It is a chic and intriguing oriental.
A perfume with enormous quality and projection / sillage that leaves no one indifferent. It provides an opening with a fantastic personality made of black velvet and smoke - accompanied by juicy and spicy lemon. The rest of the perfume is an excellent blend of notes dominated by an equally spicy patchouli, incense and soft and dense amber.
Cedarwood, myrrh, saffron, tonka and eucalyptus then dance together before the perfume transitions again to a smoky, spicy and still amber environment in the dry-down where dark resins have turned into satin. All drizzled with honey and wrapped in musky woods on a very balsamic leather base.
Concentrated and rich, it is a very well-built, dark, powerful and mysterious charismatic fragrance. Mystical and comforting, it makes us feel good about ourselves even when we are isolated on top of a mountain while the winds of war blow in the distance. A black stone that gives us the power to find ourselves inside and to calm ourselves down.
We imagine ourselves dressed in a mammoth skin and riding a dragon from a lost episode of Game of Thrones through a stormy day.

Promiscuous
This fragrance is the epitome of high quality niche perfumery. Stéphane Humbert Lucas does with a handful of beautiful accords what Roja Dove fails to execute with the hodgepodge of notes he throws into each fragrance. There is nothing about this fragrance that could be altered, same goes for the entire house 777 and Serpent line alike. Black Gemstone from beginning to end dances vicariously through the air as well as on skin and gradually develops and pronounces on skin. It is never linear and never a dull moment each note gets a chance to shine and let you know it’s here to stay. Beautiful fruits, florals, and resinous woods. Pure class in a bottle highly recommend.

Top Notes Are Important
Black Gemstone is an incredible resinous woody smoky masterpiece. It just has one problem: it doesn't have top notes. When cedarwood is listed as a top note, which is usually a heart or base note, that tells you something about the fragrance. The lemon is non-existent; it might be used to slightly acidify the incense and give it a stronger edge, but doesn't exist as an entity on its own such as in Search.

So why are top notes important? They fade after only a few minutes in some cases. This perfume is the perfect example to illustrate. On first spray, you get an absolutely horrific burnt rubber smell. A previous review colorfully described it as spraying bug spray on tires and then doing donuts in a Home Depot parking lot. This is accurate. But the question is why must we be subjected to this offensive odor in order to get to the beautiful heart and base notes? I might understand if it were a cheapie or a $30 clone, but there is no reason in a fragrance in this price range not to mask that opening with a beautiful top accord that matches the gorgeous dry-down. For a ~$300 fragrance, I shouldn't have to endure a terrible opening, even if it is only for half an hour.

I knew this was a complex and intense fragrance so I wanted to give it a few chances, but after three full wearings, the opening still offends and irritates my nose. Not for me.

Subjective opinion
1 minute long, after you spray, it smells fruitty, fermented like fruity. Sweetness with alcohol.
After, it starts smelling like an old wooden workbench, covered in motor oil and dust, or an old wooden table that was lacquered again, with oily based solvents. You can smell the slow drying, and see the dust impregnated in the oil - that's what it reminds me of.
After around 40 minutes, it transitions into incense (lighter version of O' Hira) . Lasts around 1 more hour (strong) , after it decays into the last note. 4 hours after, you can only smell the last note (faintly) .

Projection strong, for like half an hour, after it becomes very shy (typical of this perfume house) .

However, way overpriced. I think 100ml should be sold at the price point they sell their 50ml.

My Geisha- Overdose comes close to it.
The opening is far less complex, but the heart notes are there.
The drydowm is extremly peppery.
Lasts 3 hours on skin before completly dissapearing.
Price is 30- 40% of that what Gemmstone charges.

Hannibal Lecter's signature scent
It's such a mad perfume. Starts very strong, boozy, incensy dark. Then goes more on a leathery style like tuscan leather to me. Very very deep. Projects a lot and longevity is unbelivable. It's the most spectacular fragrance I've ever worn. But it's too much for me and for most part of human being I think. Only a serial killer or someone like Marylin Manson could wear that in public. But if you want to be the king of the Club at night you could try it may be. Btw it's a very unique/intersting scent that you need to try on your skin at least once.

Dark and churchy, smoky, resinous, balsamic, spicy. Myrrh and incense. A citric touch in the opening and a dark woody drydown. Polarizing.

Pretty nice opening of lacquered teakwood. Then becomes a typical woody-spicy-incense with a sweet vanillic edge.

There is divinity in darkness, light at the end of the tunnel. An executioner with a merciful aura, rays of light that break apart a storm.

Very strong, masculin, and interesting fragrance. But very hard to wear.

An amber-incense profile that unwinds fairly quickly. Warm spices dominated by smokiness. Very dark, masculine (older), winter only.

This rather challenging, dark, thick and rubbery smoky-woody Winter fragrance, slowly shifts to a gentle and dry, leathery earthy-woody base

A vibe like an early black & white movie about Dracula. Dark, vicious, nefarious, wicked, diabolic, and yet mysterious.

Resins, oriental balms, woods and fumigations embrace each other, it really makes you imagine the rites of oriental mosques.

It's amazing how gothic and mysterious this fragrance is. Without a doubt my favorite of the 777 line.

Smoky opening that transitions to charred wood up close and hints of sweet lemon at a distance. Interesting, but not the most wearable.
