A perfect period piece
I was not around for the 80s, but from what I've seen in films and TV, there was this one archetype known simply as The Businesswoman. I don't think it's ever clear what her job was, other than the nebulous Business, but she had giant hair and giant shoulderpads and the aggression to back it up. Invariably, this would all change when the Right Man came along, but let's try to ignore that for now and focus on the Businesswoman as she is.
This is a scent for her. It's soft and floral, made-up with dusky pink eyeshadow and rosy lipgloss, but with an iron core beneath. For once, I find this oakmoss perfectly balanced. Often I think chypres, particularly floral ones, end up either too floral (merely nodding in the direction of moss without daring to commit to it) or too mossy (smelling more like a bottle of gin than a perfume), but this walks the line between both of them. Like many floral perfumes of the era, it's carefully noncomittal about its florality— I do perceive the damascones that I associate with roses, but I would be hard-pressed to call it a rose perfume.
Anyway, I find it genuinely impressive the way it can conjure up memories of an era that I didn't even exist for. This is honestly fun to wear.
