Scent Cloud
For some who know this Etro fragrance, the title may be a bit confusing. Etro is not known for drawing attention with clouds; rather, it practices extreme inconspicuousness at times. Via Verri from 2006 is certainly not extremely inconspicuous, but it’s also not really eye-catching. Buuut:

A spray from the square bottle (which doesn't quite match my idea of velvety soft flowers - but whatever, boars don’t evoke associations with roses for me either) and I find myself in the garden of my childhood, where a many-petaled, fully bloomed rose grew in the rose bed, on whose surface beautiful, huge, crystal-clear drops formed after the rain. Its name, SCENT CLOUD, did it justice: This rose exuded clouds of opulent rose fragrance, so dense that it seemed tangible, so intense that a fully bloomed specimen alone was enough to transform our large living room into a rose garden. Once, my mother brought me one of those roses in the hospital, a piece of summer to hold, which I could only longingly admire from the inside during those days. My beloved scent cloud immediately unleashed its olfactory hammer and was quickly evacuated by a nurse. In smaller rooms, this rose definitely had headache potential for some people.

While Via Verri does not unleash the hammer like the real SCENT CLOUD, the little cloud that envelops me embodies, despite everything, this rose from my childhood ideally, just in a milder form: naturally spicy, yet fresh - radiant like a beautiful summer morning after a heavy rain shower, when the air smells freshly washed. Large drops form on the velvety petals, promising a bright, sunny day, devoid of any summer sultriness.

I can confirm the herbaceous fresh opening, even though I remain completely unaware of which herb is involved. The opening, by the way, dissipates so quickly that I cannot identify which little fruit has rushed past me. Just this much: It was the bitter peel, not the fruit itself. Then the rose breaks through - full throttle! Like a SCENT CLOUD, it makes its presence known, hand in hand with a lemony-rosy scented geranium that I used to have as a houseplant, accompanied by a basket of clove spices. Unlike Ergoproxy, I recognize pepper; for me, it clearly smells of clove, only slightly sharp. Only in the drydown does it lose some of its vigor and becomes a bit powdery-vanilla, with a new companion, sweet-heart sandalwood, stepping in - with great restraint - by its side, so refined that you have to get close to notice it. And one more thing: Just before I can smell nothing at all (after about 6 hours), only vanilla remains as a small memory on the skin, Mr. Cinnamon has refused me.

Via Verri is an ode to the rose. Delightfully floral, wonderfully rosy, and in contrast to some other Etro fragrances, it is indeed perceptible to those around, at least when you use the sprayer every 4 hours. It’s truly a shame that Via Verri in the 2006 version has left the stage. Such a rose deserved a longer-lasting applause!

The fine boar among fragrances.
No information on the fragrance components, so I'll try my luck.

First, I must mention that this is the first Etro fragrance that lasts superbly on my skin and develops a truly expressive intensity.

The opening is rather herbaceous fresh with a slight citrus note. However, this accord does not last long.

Then, a lush rose blossoms on my skin, combined with a hint of spice (pepper or something else slightly sharp). This rose accord has now persisted for hours. Only the spicy note has said goodbye and made way for a subtle sweetness. I can sense a hint of vanilla and something slightly woody, but the rose remains the defining scent until the end.

The "Boar Street" is an elegant fragrance for any occasion. However, why such an elegant perfume has been given such a name is a mystery to me.

Flor, you have a fine little treasure in your collection, and I thank you very much for the decant!

Via Verri means Street of the Boar.......
However, I didn't know that at the time I purchased this fragrance. The seller's description only stated: "Since there are often misunderstandings with this Etro fragrance, this offer is for the Classic Rose scent."

As soon as I read "rose," I jumped at the chance. It is really hard for me to pass by a rose scent without at least sniffing it. Since it was an online store, I couldn't even do that in this case.

Then I received the fragrance and immediately did a quick test: roses, very clearly. I wanted to take a closer look at it. I then looked up what Via Verri means on leo.org and found out it means Street of the Boar. That didn't exactly speak in favor of the fragrance. So today, I bravely conducted a full test.

And lo and behold: no boars and no scent in that direction. Quite the opposite. The Via Verri Vintage 2006 exudes such a natural, wonderful rose scent that I felt like I was in a rose garden.

Additionally, there were very subtle notes of cinnamon and vanilla. Even though there are certainly more components present, I couldn't pick out any, and the pyramid is missing here.

However, since there is a very soft woody note in the base, I assume it is sandalwood, but rosewood could also be possible.

This Via Verri Vintage 2006 is my absolute dream fragrance and will definitely earn one of the honorary spots in my collection. The scent is by no means overpowering or overly sweet, but has a pleasant, well-balanced sweetness. It is wearable every day, but I will be very careful with it, as it is now only available in very limited quantities.

I can also imagine this fragrance layered with Magot by Etro. That way, Magot would get a softer side and Via Verri something chypre-like. After all, Etro advertises that all its fragrances are suitable for layering, so I will test that soon as well.

Let's see how the test turns out - I will then add my comment accordingly.

ADDENDUM 07.09.2012: In the meantime, I know that there are two vintage versions. The rose version that I own, and a version that emphasizes green more and where rose plays no role.
