90, 60, 30, Washing in Peony Lane
The scent of peonies in nature is always a bit lighter, soapier, and more spring-like than the intense scent of roses. Roses are also more diverse in their scent variations. The peony is usually quite a well-behaved flower and is therefore often used in spring fragrances. Here, it is nicely enhanced by tangerine or green mandarin to create a summer scent. Fresh and not sweet. This results in a mix that totally reminds me of Blanche by Byredo and L'eau by Serge Lutens. So, for those who like a clean scent that leans towards the laundry direction, but find the usual candidates too unfloral, Pivone by Florascent offers a lovely alternative made from purely natural ingredients. The floral factor balances out with the laundry factor.
My quite high rating for the scent comes from the fact that laundry scents are rather innovative at a time when many are seeking understatement and want to smell inconspicuous. Whether Florascent intended this, I doubt, and I see it more as a coincidence. The scent is described by Florascent as "Impressions of a Fragrance Garden." I find this description misleading and inappropriate, as I have never seen laundry detergent or soap growing in any garden :-)
