justifiably overlooked
The notes here are very tempting to me - I'm a big fan of spices like ginger and pimento. The word "umami" also catches my attention, as it describes that savory broth-flavor that adds interest to so many foods.

Yet, this scent is a flop. It has a heavy greasy-waxy tone to it, sometimes interrupted by a camphor tinge. I don't get any of the lovely notes I hoped for here, and this reminds me rather of an inexpensive candle. Interestingly, the "also liked" on this one refers to several Parfumerie Generale and Lutens scents that I also don't quite "get." That gives me hope that, just as others deeply appreciate Cadjmere and Aomassai, for instance, someone out there must appreciate Umami as well.

Oh la la, Umami
"Umami" by Florescent is one of the most delightful surprises of my "nose year" so far. A casually light, yet never transparent or watery tonal favorite that you can only love.

"Umami" reminds me of some Hanae Mori fragrances, it also recalls light products - but in the reverse, best sense. It brings to mind origami made from edible paper, reminding us that vanilla and the like can also come across as completely high-quality, delicious, and natural. This couldn't be further from syrupy vanilla puddings! "Umami" combines citrusy scented candle vibes with gourmand (anti-)calories - but without gaining a single gram! An aromatherapy of pure well-being. Yuzu kisses tonka bean - and I'm swooning! An absolute recommendation for my better half. Tender, charming, without a single real, close scent twin coming to mind. Jammy Jammy Jammy - I got Love in my tummy...

Bottle: unspectacular and simple
Sillage: easy to wear, not aggressive
Longevity: not much for a gourmand - but never too little either. 4-6 hours.

Conclusion: one of the fluffiest, most special, beautiful, and delicious gourmands on the market/that has ever graced my nose. Simply dreamy, just dreamy. Insider tips come with no warmer recommendation!

Transformable, soft, round feel-good scent
I can't even remember how the scent came to me. When I rediscovered it, I didn't expect much, as I had always been completely disappointed by "organic" scents from the natural cosmetics sector.

But Umami is different. This scent actually develops - quite a rarity among the aforementioned fragrances. When first sprayed, it smelled relatively flat and monotonously spicy, with notes of tonka and a hint of vanilla. Then it suddenly disappeared, and I thought, okay, another flop. After an hour, I started sniffing around. Something in my surroundings smelled wonderful. I didn't even realize it was Umami at first. But indeed! Along with the tonka scent that had returned, the light spiciness of ginger emerged, underlined by a hint of sandalwood and the vanilla I had noticed at the beginning, creating a wonderfully soft, spicy, and now multi-layered scent that completely captured my heart and my nose! Umami has managed to become a candidate for repurchase for me.

The Edible Tonka Tree
Florascent perfumers create natural perfumes, including some with references to Japan. One of them is "Umami," which carries the name of the 5th discovered taste - alongside sweet, sour, salty, and bitter.

The word Umami means "meaty," "savory," but also "delicious" in Japanese, and the glutamic acid that gives Umami its special flavor is primarily found in protein-rich foods - including meat, cheese, and mushrooms. Thankfully, this EdT does not smell like Gorgonzola or anything similar! I will let "delicious" pass, as "Umami" certainly has gourmand undertones.

"Umami" is a warm, woody-spicy scent with a hint of powder; sandalwood meets tonka bean. Vanilla and osmanthus give it a somewhat feminine touch - although I would still classify it as relatively unisex overall. It resembles Cadjméré and Tam Dao, just a bit more feminine, sweeter, and more vanillic.
It also becomes creamy and cookie-like on my skin, and I can't quite decide whether I find it more delicious or woody; it is somehow both at the same time, or alternatingly.
At first, I find it more woody, but over time "Umami" becomes increasingly edible, just as its name suggests. What starts as a woody tonka scent gradually transforms - thanks to allspice - into a gingerbread fragrance!

Aside from that, the ingredients give a very noble impression from the first spray. The sandalwood oil used smells very high-quality to my nose and can hold its own quite well against, for example, the Dries Van Noten scent by Frédéric Malle (which it somewhat resembles).
Longevity and sillage are also pleasantly strong for a natural scent.

sweet tonka body lotion
My first natural fragrance test, and I must say it is much better than I expected. I can't really distinguish a qualitative difference from a commercially available scent, but I have to say that this fragrance can hold its own in both scent intensity and longevity compared to "normal" fragrances. For me, it leans towards the gourmand direction. Lots of tonka, very delicious. This tasty, sweet cookie is also very creamy. Over everything, there is a hint of subtle spice. It smells like a kind of sweet tonka body lotion. I find it really quite successful, not my fragrance direction as a perfume, but very delightful; I would love to smell this on others or as a room spray for Christmas or suitable for Sunday coffee gatherings, because with this scent, you could present me a discount store cake as homemade - I wouldn't even notice, because the good scent would overshadow the taste in my perception.
Edit: I can also smell sandalwood after half an hour, which transforms the sweet treat into an increasingly sophisticated fragrance with an interesting twist in it.

Fragrant, powerful, punchy. There's a bit of an Eighties or Nineties vibe here. Definitely tonal-heavy, but not a gourmand. Good...

Iris wears lipstick and gracefully sips on a little plum liqueur. It smells spicy and sweet. The sandalwood is pleasantly warm. Lovely.

The combination of osmanthus and ginger smells similar to iris, with tonka and vanilla adding moderate sweetness. It also has.

When a single scent impression emerges from multiple components, it's perfect. That's the case here. No details. An earthy-spicy beauty.

Black-brown is the tonka bean - accompanied by citrus sprinkles, warm spices, velvety flowers + creamy sandalwood. Not too sweet.

If you like creamy gourmands, you’ll find good quality here compared to mainstream penetrative scents. It’s still not my thing ;-)

You need to have a preference for tonka for this scent, which I don't: sweet base, woody-earthy progression, spicy accents.
