"The Silent Magic of the Desert"
Spring. A few years ago. Karlsruhe. A city known not only for its baroque architecture but also for its hidden treasures. It was during a visit there that I stumbled upon the Florascent manufactory, a place where craftsmanship and olfactory creativity unite. In this workshop, reminiscent of an alchemist's chamber, the perfumer Roland Tentunian works with dedication and passion on his fragrances. Among flacons and test tubes, I found a scent that immediately fascinated me: Quarzazate. The name evoked memories of the majestic expanses of the Moroccan desert, and when I first wore it on my skin, I knew I had found something truly special.

Quarzazate is a tribute to the cool, mystical atmosphere of the desert. Roland Tentunian, the creative mind behind Florascent, crafts each of his fragrances with artisanal precision and love for detail in his manufactory in Karlsruhe. Here, not only the perfumes are created, but also the artistic packaging that bears the mark of a master. Quarzazate embodies this philosophy - a fragrance that carries the cool purity and spiritual depth of the desert within.

"In the breath of the desert, one feels the heartbeat of silence." The opening of Quarzazate is a hint of incense that immediately captivates the senses. It is not an ordinary incense, but a cool, ethereal one that recalls the clarity and freshness of morning when the first rays of sun penetrate the cool air. This note gives the fragrance a spiritual dimension, evoking thoughts of quiet prayers in ancient monasteries and the gentle flicker of candlelight. Accompanying the incense is the fresh note of cypress, which acts like a cool breeze in the desert, imparting a green, almost invigorating freshness to the scent.

As the top note slowly recedes, the heart of Quarzazate unfolds. A harmonious combination of mint, allspice, and saffron comes to the forefront. The mint brings a cool, invigorating freshness reminiscent of the wind sweeping through the desert. The allspice adds a subtle spiciness, while the saffron introduces a warm, slightly spicy note that recalls oriental markets. This interplay gives the fragrance a complexity that evokes the mysterious beauty of the desert.

The base note of Quarzazate, consisting of resinous notes and vetiver, anchors the fragrance in an earthy depth. These resinous accords remind one of the scent of dry earth and sand, blended with the smoky aroma of a campfire burning in the distance. The vetiver adds a woody, earthy note that imparts a calming permanence to the fragrance. Together, these notes create a scent experience that embodies the silence and vastness of the desert, the serenity and eternity of nature.

Quarzazate is a fragrance that has accompanied me for years and continues to delight me time and again. Priced at 51 euros for 30 ml, this fragrance is a true gem that anyone can afford who wishes to carry the magic of the desert within. Roland Tentunian has created with Quarzazate a composition that captivates with its cool clarity and spiritual depth. A fragrance for those who seek tranquility, who enjoy silence, and who feel the wisdom of the desert within.

"The silent magic of the desert - a fragrance that touches the soul and transports the senses to distant worlds."

Resinous Sauna in the Woods
Well, this starts off well! The bottle is worthy of a €10 perfume. Luckily, I knew from a previous sample that the contents make up for it.

I take a breath, and in my mind's eye, at least ten sauna masters from my absolute favorite sauna appear (they must be clones, as there is always only one). They all somehow completed a perfumer training and are now ecstatically extracting every bit of incense and wood, every drop of resin that gives the saunas their signature scent - until everything is bottled into small vials.
A hint of tea and vetiver and something very subtly floral is secretly dripped in afterward.
On my skin, the scent is bitter and less charming for the first few minutes. But then the metamorphosis begins.
It smells of time out, letting go, and relaxation. The incense makes it almost a little spiritual, the vetiver grounds it, and the tea and flowers shimmer through the thick resinous wooden planks in a very minimalist way. There is no sweetness at all. The Candyland of Le Male, Reflection Man, Layton, and co. is nowhere to be found here - thankfully - not even close.
I am completely taken with this scent. It immediately transports me to a place of calm.
Quarzazate does not adapt; it does not flatter anyone. It leaves no open questions - it is honest and open but in a woody-warm, not sweet way, and then grants - a lot of serenity.
-----------------
Compared to Lüschers 46N8e, the Florascent clearly wins in my entirely subjective ranking. The 46 is sweeter in the background and more floral in the top note, all in a way that I don't particularly like. The needle-like scent, on the other hand, I really enjoy in Lüscher. Surely one could come up with the idea of layering them. In Quarzazate, the resinous wood and the incense dominate - the flowers are, as mentioned, only to be sensed behind the wood - I like that - even if it may be less rounded than the 46. It just fits me as a wearer - edges and corners and all.

Aromatherapy
Florascent is a German company based in Karlsruhe. In addition to perfumery, they also offer some products in the field of aromatherapy. Therapy sprays with names like “Headache Master” or “Never Sleepless” make me smile at first, but those who have delved into the effects of certain scents on our soul may also find something to appreciate in the chakra fragrances they offer.

The first scent from Florascent that I tested was Nuoro. Looking at my notes from back then, there is mention of sauna infusion. Pleasant to smell, but as a fragrance? Of course, it didn’t take long before I stumbled upon Quarzazate, and both the scent notes and the few statements about the fragrance caught my attention: frankincense (I love the stuff), coniferous wood, resins, all wrapped in a green cloak. This can only be good.

I’m not usually a blind buyer, but the risk with a 30ml bottle seemed manageable. Although calling it a bottle is quite flattering. Let’s rather speak of a glass container with a spray. If you’re looking for an appealing tactile experience, you’re in the wrong place.

Quarzazate starts sharp and green. Camphor immediately comes to mind, accompanied by a fresh, resinous, and ethereal coniferous wood. The combination of mint, which likely triggered my camphor association, and the allspice, which adds a decent peppery sharpness, indeed evokes thoughts of aromatherapy. The nose is certainly clear for now.

Frankincense here is neither smoky, nor does it evoke thoughts of places of worship. Rather, it performs its usual duty by elevating the whole composition to a relaxed and airy level, bringing a bit of transparency to the scent.

Ouarzazate is the capital of the eponymous province in southern Morocco. Florascent markets the fragrance as a walk through the cool Medina (the North African term for the old town) of Ouarzazate. Immediately, images of cities made of mud bricks with windows the size of arrow slits come to mind, picturesque locations nestled in the midst of the High Atlas and Anti-Atlas mountains. A few palm trees scattered here and there. The last green oases before the Sahara swallows everything in sand.

The annoying thing is, Quarzazate does not feel at all like an oriental fragrance to me, and associations with the vibrant markets of Morocco with all their unfamiliar scent impressions do not arise at all. It remains primarily (pale) green, resinous-coniferous. The mint surprisingly maintains a fresh touch for a long time, making the scent wearable for almost any season.

I like the fragrance, although after wearing it several times, a sense of disillusionment sets in. The aromatherapy and sauna thoughts cannot be denied with this scent either. This might make it a bit cumbersome for everyday wear.

For one thing, Quarzazate is certainly distinctive and memorable. Thus, with frequent and regular use, it could unintentionally become a signature scent. Maybe not for you, but definitely for those around you.

Green incense over rock & mineral earth. Crunchy wood, dark resin. Briefly peppery & medicinal, hidden floral. A real blockbuster.

Could also be from the Monocle series by CdG. The pyramid fits. Frankincense, wood, and resin dominate. Green-spicy base. Amazing!

This is some pretty intense stuff: incense very strong, as well as pepper, sharp mint, fresh resinous notes: no love, no prisoners.

Green, fresh & smoky - not stuffy. Surprisingly clear. As expected, bitter. Strict, straightforward, clarifying. Pleasant.

Fits not only by name into CdG's Incense line. And it's proof that it works even without the typical CdG synthetic notes.

The strongest in the new Florascent series. Consistently a top frankincense note, spicy, oriental, herbal. Almost a top fragrance. Try it!

Cool, green, minty freshness wrapped in the spiciness of pink pepper, countered by sweet notes from the base. Disharmony?

Intense incense, sharp mint & cypress are a bit too much for me. The green-spicy base makes up for it a bit.
