A Rose for... [Me, Please]
I fell head over heels in love with this scent, although it is not at all what I expected and is, IMO, very unisex. I'm disappointed I didn't try this fragrance sooner.
The rose is very present, fresh and sultry. In the opening, the frankincense and darjeeling notes create an incense-like accord, and this accord compliments the rose perfectly. The blackcurrant doesn't overpower the rose/incense, but it provides a rich quality and a bit of fruity sweetness. This stage lasts close to two hours in hot, humid weather. A spray on each wrist, inner arm at the elbow and my cleavage was noticed (and highly complimented) by my husband, who was over 6' or 2m away.
So, be careful applying in hot weather because this baby projects and leaves a strong sillage trail. The second time I wore it, I just spritzed my wrists and cleavage. My husband had to stand closer, maybe 4' or 1.2m before he noticed it.
The blending is spectacular. As the incense quality starts to fade back, the rose remains the same- still present and realistic but again, becomes part of an ensemble with fresh, powdery iris & the earthy, warm woody oud as perfect accompanists for the rose note and bring a soft, sexy, almost anamalic quality to the scent. This lasts hours, about six, although the projection is a bit lighter but beyond arm's length. Sillage trail is still apparent but not as strong as the opening.
The drydown is glorious. The combo of rose, creamy sandalwood, earthy, not dirty, patchouli, sweet, an almost spicy vanilla and amber which, on me, leans towards ambergris (there seems to be a bit of salt in there somewhere) is extremely well done, and shows off still another facet of rose before it fades into the background.
Again, I think the drydown has a very unisex-y quality. This stage has lighter projection, a lovely scent bubble you can share with anyone who is a little closer than arm's length and a barely perceptible sillage trail. After another hour or two, ARF... fades into a more intimate and very pleasant skin scent.
This is a marvelous fragrance: high quality, unisex, good for many occasions, formal, romantic, casual, (maybe not work but that's just me). I haven't worn it yet in cool/cold weather, but believe it will work well [I will update this review]. I will say, however, if you looking for a completely rose-dominant fragrance, this may not be the best choice. Although several facets of rose are highlighted here, they are shown off by the use of other notes, which change the nature of the rose note, and this metamorphosis from one facet to another is done magnificently. This is a relatively expensive fragrance, but I think the quality justifies the higher price point- something I say very infrequently. EDITED TO ADD: I was misinformed about the price point. It really is too expensive, IMO. I'm sticking to minis.
