the light becomes softer, more golden
Our swifts are already gone. In recent weeks, they were very anxious to teach the young, which hatched only this year, the flying: this did not go without much excited chirping of the entire family swifts and also a bit of excitement on my part over the stage.
Not yet quite "landing-ready," the little claws scratched every now and then on the fresh aluminum attic of the roof to find a foothold. Fortunately succeeded nevertheless again and again a landing of the small guys.
Now it only remains to wish them a good journey!
And of course to wait for next year, at the end of May.
Late summer creeps up on quiet soles; it is darker longer in the morning: the nights are getting cooler again. After this summer, a welcome addition.
Even here in the city, many things are slowly turning brown, red and gold. The wine on the old buildings begins to blush and also the steadfast large sunflowers in the yard reminded me this morning already of Erich Kästner's "August":
"The sunflowers, lush, blond and brown,
with veils before the face, look like Frau'n,
who are taking a trip to the capital."
Where might they be traveling to?
It can not be denied: a slight hint of transience is palpable.
Not only in nature, also with me: the slightly autumnal melancholy announces itself now and then - often quite groundless, and also the skin is felt thinner!
It's time to provide some cozy warmth in the evenings and also in the clothes: candles, a light blanket and fragrance!
So "Honey Oud" from the "Court Perfumer" Floris is most welcome to me, who may call "Perfumer to HM The Queen Elizabeth II".
Incidentally, this interesting company history is also told in the book "Perfume Women in the World of Fragrances" by Bettina de Cosnac, which I have already mentioned so many times.
(Incidentally, she too a Berliner, who is married to a French count and now lives near Paris.
With her the attendance of the local French high school opened the right way.)
Even just the color of the liquid in this noble flacon creates a feeling of pleasant warmth.
The golden honey, here probably yet quite specifically nourished by the flora of the not exactly squeamish island climate, is very welcome in its spiciness.
Bergamot provides a classic counterpoint to the creamy honey note, before it goes on yet slightly rustic, yes, pastoral.
A strong breath of English country air permeates this so far so civilized being - amazing and yet extremely interesting.
A rose garden shares with Patchouli's sensual glow the task of smoothing our somewhat startled sensations again and bring them into a beautiful harmonious flow.
This course of the fragrance should enjoy sensitives; because for the base note, the Royal Perfumers have yet come up with some special fragrance creatures.
Labdanum: What would these "creators of fragrances" do without the spicy resin of cistus? The fragrance world would be a bit emptier without this resilient plant; perhaps even more boring.
In "Honey Oud" now labdanum and amber meet; the already golden honey scent sparkles!
Musk and vanilla, both yet quite idiosyncratic, but add a beautiful warmth here:
They skillfully close a circle of fragrance, which in the end once again receives a slightly animalic touch!
Thus, this balsamic English fragrance wonder is not only noble and warm, rustic and fragrant: it is also surprisingly sensual!
A sensuality that I would not have expected, to serve a cliché, from the "cool English".
Here was probably yet reached into one of the treasure chests, which still brought the old sailors from far away.
One remembered the mysterious abundance of the Orient!
The pleasant and protective warmth that gives me "Honey Oud" accompanies me with beautiful scent progression for several hours. The temptation to re-spray, is anyway quite large: what offers itself here, is already a true "nose flatterer"!
A suitable companion for the late summer and early autumn I have probably found with this fragrance.
So it remains only to say with Rainer Maria Rilke:
"Lord, it is time! The summer was very big ..."
