Fruu Tönnis or "dat Probleem mit dem Kalenner"
*this headline was amateurishly cobbled together without a sound knowledge of Low German*
So Mrs. Tonis is giving us a new fragrance. In December. Red Cordt... mhh red and Christmas and blood orange fits and what the heck is 'cordt' supposed to be? red cord (fabric)? Chord? Leo and Google Translator are letting me down. So, expectations: a festive, woody pair of pomelos sitting in a cuddly blanket (Tonka), it's cold outside... something like that...
Hahaaa...! Far from it.
Thesis 1: Mrs. Tonis must have decided it's too cold for me in good old Germany in winter, I'm off to work remotely in Australia.
Thesis 2: Mrs. Tonis is not so good with deadlines and precise scheduling or Sophie-Luisa and Finn-Luca from the marketing team simply didn't get their act together in time. The thing was actually supposed to come out in the summer...
Because this bergamot and blood orange opening is summery, fresh, sparkling and more "pool party with umbrella" than "peeling oranges in a blanket". No detergent associations, not too sour, definitely not sweet! Pepper is the only pyramid note I don't notice explicitly.
A little mint is added to the cocktail, more for the look than the taste, a little green is quite nice. And then we grab the glass, sit down on the sun-warmed wooden bench and sip with relish, happy that we are NOT sitting in dark Germany at 5°C. Oh well, unfortunately we are, okay, then we close our eyes, sniff our wrist and look forward to our upcoming summer vacation, which is still far too far away.
And this little place is also so cozy that we sit there for quite a while (about 2-4 hours) and enjoy this light but easily perceptible fragrance in its dry, woody glory with a hint of tonka. Our neighbor might get a gentle whiff when he reaches for the drink, but it's nowhere near enough to be a large-scale mosquito repellent (aka the sillage is absolutely socially acceptable and rather personal). Perfect!
№ 27 Red Cordt is a wonderfully fresh, primarily woody fragrance with a fresh citrusy opening and, in my opinion, absolutely unisex. In addition, I see it more in the warm season, spring/autumn perhaps but not in the cold and wet winter...
Just to give you a few similar scents (similar in style! not necessarily super similar smelling!): "Cedrus | Chloé" , "Un Jardin à Cythère | Hermès" or Desert Dawn
If someone could enlighten me about this ominous "Cordt", I would be grateful. Maybe it's a tribute to a Mr. Cordt whose favourite color is red and who is Fru Toni's childhood crush? And she's now gone to Australia because of him?
