Galloped?
That "Muskara" has nothing to do with "muscles" is immediately obvious. The rose accompanied by this term today does not have one. Watery it is, beset by a clearly musky underlay, almost fibrous-bitter. Smells like a wet, musty rope with a musty, musty cover that wraps itself around the neck of the Queen of Flowers. That's bourbon rose? The olfactory most powerful of them from my stock, the old fighter (pronounced: She has muscles!) "Louise Odier", I don't find again here at all. The present flower remains pale and can speak of luck that the evil rope soon loses its lust on its own.
In the course of the morning, however, the as-if musk on its part becomes mustier and also develops amazingly animalistic traits. This is all the more astonishing as it is said to be of purely vegetable origin. And even when a rounder musk note dominates from midday onwards, it continues to be quite similar to the chemical counterpart from elsewhere, yes, it has some character - optionally eggs - ahead of the weaker or more timid representatives among them. Would be exciting to know what Mr. Bedel has so everything in it.
But 'Muskara Rosa' no longer has much to do with Rose. An effervescent powdery residue of freshness is at best a vague reminder of the lame prelude.
In the afternoon, strangely bland wood increasingly penetrates (for a natural scent) and blends peculiarly with the pseudo-animalic. It seems as if the wood had not just appeared, but had only stepped out a little more strongly; so the musk mixture may partly have its origin in it, the pale aura of the wood may therefore have been systematically chosen. In the evening, the plant musk again achieves an increase in animalism. I didn't think there was anything left. Nevertheless, I find the fragrance all too basal.
Allegedly, the Muskara collection shows the perfumer at the peak of his creativity (well, who wrote this assessment?). The idea is to reproduce pheromone gems with natural means and in the information about the scents Mr. Bedel explicitly mentions "Pheromone family". Well, whether he perhaps galloped a bit and neglected the perfume idea?
Wikipedia also teaches us: "The behavioral response of vertebrates to vertebrate pheromones is partially superimposed by other processes, making it difficult to prove a clear mode of action." I see. That might explain a lot. To get to the point: Nothing moves with me. And for that 679 Euronen per 100ml...
But we don't want to be hasty, the Fueguia sample set (many thanks to robins!) contains more from the Muskara corner, we'll see. The tube with 'Muskara Rosa' itself was already running low, so I left it at one single test day so as not to deprive my dear colleagues from the natural fragrance test group of the chance to possibly get their hormones going.
