the desert of a body

I’m the kind of person who picks books and films based on their title.
Superficial? Maybe — but I stand by it. The evocative power of a few well-chosen words far exceeds anything you’ll find in an encyclopedia.

When I saw the name of this perfume, a shiver ran down my spine.
So many things come to mind. The dunes of a body… It speaks of skin, of sensuality, maybe sweat, the crumpled sheets of a hotel room.

The juice, deep brown, evokes sun-kissed skin — golden, exquisite...
And yet, there’s a solemnity to it, something sacred.
Incense, perhaps. Yes, incense.

The day is ending, golden hour in a Latin country makes it feel even more Latin.
Maybe you plan to go out, to enjoy the cooler evening hours.
But who would choose to leave this room, when you could instead get lost again… in the desert of a body?

Soured smoky resins

Almost rubbery smokiness and screechy resins - I feel like every "artisanal" house has at least one fragrance like this and for some reason I'm drawn to sampling them; I suppose I like smoky fragrances so they sound interesting to me. But here, the smoke and resins combine in a weird way and release this odd odor reminiscent of olive brine. When pressing my nose against where I sprayed, I get a rather nice smoky incense, I just wish that projected into the air, not this sour mess. I'd rather have Black Lacquer any day.

Edit 11/17/24: Wore this tonight and it gave me much less olive brine and a lot more smoke and incense. Might have to revisit.

One of the best Fueguia creations.
Woody, incense and so matural that almost breathtaking.

Slightly animalic oud, prominent frankincense, contrasted with creamy, dusty sandalwood.

Warm, primal, the quality below high standards.
Rich and syrupy. Mesmerizing but will be challenging for many.

The light on the land of your body

It's summer falling through the blinds. The light shimmers in salt veils on your skin like shimmering heat over the infinity of a landscape of warm, humid earth, rooibos-red cane sugar pearls, honeydew drops on glowing herbs, dessert wines made from fermented woods, clay soils and black vanilla. Your breath like the swell of sleeping waves of tart, spicy balsam, a sea of thousand-resin crystals and dark, shimmering amber. Are gentle hills of sand and velvet and valleys of silk scarves.

The Fueguia 1833 brand was founded by Julian Bedel in Buenos Aires in 2010. The name is reminiscent of an indigenous girl kidnapped by a British commander from Tierra del Fuego and is therefore a memorial to imperialism, as the house is dedicated to the cultural and natural landscapes of the indigenous peoples of South America: "Cultural and natural landscapes are portrayed through each creation in an olfactive storytelling composed by a palette of exotic botanical ingredients," writes Bedel on his homepage. As the artisanal production process does not involve filtration, the fragrances may be cloudy.
"Dunas de un Cuerpo" combines the multi-layered aroma of South American lapacho bark, whose fragrance has hints of cistus (tart, earthy, herbaceous honey), rooibos tea, caramel, liqueur-like earth, salt and black vanilla, with dark, balsamic incense resins and finally velvety, warm sandalwood in the base. This is certainly reminiscent of an amber-patchouli fragrance such as "Ambre Fétiche", but is more varied and differentiated, especially in the first few hours, shimmering and iridescent like sunlight on warm, silky-salty summer skin.
Curiously, the homepage lists different ingredients for different sales regions. For example, lapacho is listed for international shipping, oud for Argentinian shipping and amber alongside frankincense and sandalwood for other regions. The version I tested was definitely the one with the lapacho bark.
