A moving coincidence
The Sportissimo Eau de Toilette is a fragrance that will probably forever remind me of a certain time, a certain place and a certain person in my life, even if it is probably neither a milestone nor a really high-quality and expensive product on a fragrance level.

Since this perfume is very unknown and therefore probably hardly anyone will read this, allow me to expand a little.

The time and place I mentioned in the introduction was, although it wasn't actually an easy time, a class trip to the Côte d'Azur in the 10th grade, which I remember very fondly. Our class teachers really did a great job, because we were a terrible bunch as a whole, but also individually. Nevertheless, they liked us so much that they organized a lot of nice things for us. Admittedly, our "hotel" was more of a place to stay, almost a flophouse, but it was almost right on the beach near Antibes. We also had some great trips planned. One of them was an hour-long hike, which my class teacher at the time was really impressed by, but most of us were pretty annoyed because it was still so hot there in late summer. Another excursion was to Monaco. And Monaco is just really beautiful and has a really interesting layout. It's so small and yet so full of houses and people. It's like a city that's been pressed into the rocks so that there's just enough space for everything you can see there. And then there was a detour to Grasse to the Musée International de la Parfumerie. Galimard has its headquarters nearby and also sold some fragrances there. Some of us were very interested, others much less so. For a few of us, it was certainly the first step from the cheap, far too sweet body spray or the cheap, often also rather sweet Axe deodorant into the world of perfume. And this fragrance convinced me so much that I paid around €30 for a 100 ml bottle. Even though I knew that wasn't a lot of money for a perfume, I wasn't quite sure about this expenditure at first because I somehow hadn't brought enough money with me, we still had a few evenings ahead of us where we had to take care of catering (there was no food in the small bungalow complex) and I also never liked borrowing money. So I bought it, wore it every day that late summer until fall, even when I came back from the school trip, and really liked it.

So now to the person with whom I associate this perfume and that will probably never change:

My grandpa was a very normal old man in a way. He often had his moments when he could say some pretty condescending things, even though he probably didn't mean any harm. He liked to talk about the weight of relatives, whether they were too thin or fat for his taste, thought most people were much less intelligent than he was and often made rather misogynistic jokes. None of this was anything that "you're not allowed to say these days", but statements that, with a little sensitivity and reflection on your own thoughts, you simply wouldn't think of, let alone say. And yet he was fair and perceived many structural injustices, even though he was a rather privileged senior physician, traveled a lot, came into contact with all kinds of people and treated everyone equally well or perhaps just equally..

But without leaving any family dramas here, I would like to slowly return to the scent.
At some point I forgot about this perfume and stopped wearing it, probably because I had other interests or already had other fragrances that I preferred to wear. I don't remember exactly. But when my grandpa died at the end of 2017 and we dissolved his household in the following months, I came back to this perfume. I have to admit that I was already quite sad, but couldn't show it well at the time. Of his grandchildren, I was probably the one who did the most with him, but I couldn't blame the others either. It all took a bit of a toll on me. That's why I rarely went to his house to help clear it out. But when I was there once and opened all sorts of boxes, bags and bags I had stashed away, I found a bottle of Sportissimo Eau de Toilette in one of these boxes, both in its original packaging and one that I had started But I had never told him about this fragrance, nor had anyone else. Now that I know how many different fragrances there are to buy all over the world, I find it all the more striking how we both owned the same fragrance and obviously enjoyed wearing it.

Now to the actual fragrance: it's not that easy to describe. It's kind of fresh, but it also has a spicy sweetness and a subtle citrus. It definitely starts off quite sweet with these fresh, tart notes and then becomes rather tamer before becoming almost a little woody in the drydown.

Its longevity and sillage are actually quite good for the price. But the price-performance ratio is particularly good. As I said, I spent €30 on 100 ml of the eau de toilette back then. And I've just checked and it's still the same price.

If anyone reads this and wants to try it, you can actually buy a whole bottle for the price.
My only fear is that I think this fragrance is so great almost exclusively for nostalgic reasons and that someone will actually try it because of me and find it really awful. But that probably won't happen anyway.
