The millionth La Petite Robe Noire flanker, but...
I have always enjoyed the original La Petite Robe Noire and also love many of the slightly tweaked flankers, but I gave up on trying them all because most of them really are very similar. Then Guerlain released this cherry blossom infused version and I got curious again.
Cherry blossoms in real life are really something special with their short-lived beauty and their very subtle scent (yes, they do have a scent, even if some people say they don't!). Cherry blossom fragrances usually can't live up to the magical experience of walking underneath a canopy of blooming pink cherry trees. They tend to be a tad boring and insipid. So I really wanted to know if the LPRN DNA could take a cherry blossom scent to the next level.
And surprisingly, it does! Kind of. The best cherry blossom fragrance I ever tried is still Amouage Blossom Love, but I think this one comes second. It's strictly for people who like LPNR though. This is definitely recognizable as a flanker, as the sparkling, sweet cherry is the same as in the original, and the rose is, too. But Rose Cherry is missing the heavier gourmand notes, especially the licorice. Instead, it has a soft cherry blossom note floats on top of the rose and cherry, and the base feels very soft and fluffy with only white musk and vanilla. The white tea note is also more transparent and less bitter than the tea in the EDP. This is one of those fragrances that smell just like the listed notes, without big surprises.
Everything feels like a soft pink cloud of rose petals and cherry blossoms, very fitting for spring.
I don't know, maybe the world didn't need another LPRN flanker, but who cares if it's needed when it smells so pretty?
