A Masterclass in Contrast: Jelk’s Modern interpretation of the Ideal Man.
Delphine Jelk continues her winning streak with Cologne Forte. While many claim the incense is missing, it is the very first note to greet my nose—a sophisticated smokiness that sets the stage for what’s to come. The genius here lies in the "fire and ice" dynamic: a cooling, sharp grapefruit immediately cuts through that smoke, followed by the signature L’Homme Idéal almond note. The dry down is incredibly smooth and comforting, maintaining that fascinating push-and-pull between hot and cold accords throughout the wear. Guerlain remains the gold standard of French perfumery for a reason—there is truly nothing else like this on the market.nnLongevity: 10/10 (Fills a house with just a few sprays).nnScent: 10/10.

A Great Development
When is a new Guerlain coming? Is there perhaps a new one from the Ideal line coming soon? I actually asked myself this question more often during the pre-Christmas season. And then it happened. I read in the ticker that a new one is coming. And then it even has the name L'Homme Idéal Cologne Forte. I could hardly put my excitement into words. I am a huge fan of L'Homme Idéal Cologne and I have 3 bottles of it. I don't need to say more.

Some may think that I would have rated this fragrance positively regardless of how it turned out. That is not the case. On the contrary, precisely because I am such a huge fan, the anticipation was high, but I was also very skeptical. Can my expectations be met?

At no point did I question whether I would order the fragrance or not. As soon as it was available online, I ordered it immediately.

It arrived yesterday. And what can I say? I am thrilled.

I will try to describe the fragrance first through a scenario.

Imagine it’s early June and it’s a pretty warm day. You want to meet friends in the early evening and you put on this fragrance. You go outside, you’re in a good mood, and you drive to the meeting point with loud music. That’s the opening. You meet at a beach club. The atmosphere is good, and you’re having a cocktail with your friends. There’s laughter and you’re having fun. The mood is carefree as the sun sets. That’s the middle part. Towards the end, you throw on a jacket because it’s getting a bit cooler. The conversations become deeper and you order a good wine. Here we are at the end of the fragrance. At this point, it becomes a gentleman's scent for me.

Now I will try to better relate this to the fragrance itself, without going into detail about the notes. I leave that to the professionals as always.

The fragrance starts off very zesty. To be honest, I didn’t expect it to be this intense. I admit that I was a bit overwhelmed at first. I wore the fragrance twice yesterday. Once right after delivery and once last night after showering. By the second wearing, the overwhelm was gone and I was absolutely thrilled because everything made perfect sense to me. After the zesty start, we develop towards the original for my nose. After about 1 hour, we are close to L'Homme Idéal Cologne and this parallel really pleased me because I love this fragrance very much. The typical almond is clearly noticeable for me in the middle part. I was also pleased that the fragrance develops away from the original for my nose after a while. It loses some sweetness and becomes a bit drier, and I detect some woodiness. I only perceive the incense very subtly at the end.

What makes this fragrance special for me? The answer lies in the fragrance progression. I go through several phases during this scent, and I find it impressive how a fragrance can have so many facets.

Yes, I am a fan of this house. But I’ll be honest with you, even if I hadn’t been a fan before, I would definitely be one after experiencing this fragrance.

I see what you did there!
Upon the first spray, one thing is clear. Yes, it is a LHI from Guerlain. The typical almond base has come to stay. However, where L'Homme Idéal Cologne Forte goes its own way is in the citrus freshness. Every few decades, they come out with a fresh flanker. Why is this launched in winter? Well, it's not winter everywhere, I guess?

I'm going to lean way out of the window now. The longer and deeper I press my nose into the arm and the more I smell it, the more it hit me. Ahhhhhh you little rascals!!! I see what you did there, Guerlain!!!
This grapefruit note, which amusingly gives me slight lemongrass associations in combination with the vetiver, has (and now pay attention to my thesis) the intention to strike the same chord in you as "Imagination | Louis Vuitton." After all, one wants a piece of the pie. Without the teen note, of course, and packaged in the well-known Guerlain style/DNA. Now, here comes someone who thinks, "Nooo, it doesn't smell like LV." I didn't say that, but I recognize parallels.

The H|S is average for the DNA, I would say.
A really nice freshie that, due to the fact that it seems to be limited, gives me a truly bitter aftertaste. I really don't think that needs to be the case.

Anyways, well-made and beautifully executed scent. Bravo, Guerlain.

PS: I thank the dear @ITX for the sample.

An Ideal Man.. still
A cologne of the ideal man, still. Forte? Only in the name.

Guerlain can perfectly reproduce natural scents. Natural ingredients, very appealingly presented. The fragrance starts with a freshly squeezed, authentic grapefruit. Zesty, unsweetened, masculine, perfect! "Grapefruit Fantastico" is what I would have called it.

The progression is obvious. The L'Homme Ideal line features specific almond. Sweet, classic, warm.

In the end, vetiver is noticeable, but light, sweet, in the background, mixed with almond. Frankincense? I can only read about it; I hardly smell anything.

As a fragrance DNA, it is, as its name suggests, ideal. After 6 hours, I smell my skin and the scent is still there. The sillage is okay in the first hour, but then very shy.

The fragrance is limited. Do I want to smell like this all the time? Yes and no. For me, there are clearly better alternatives.

The Fresh Kick, the Motivation Boost
I would love to own a L'Homme. From the numerous sniffing sessions at Douglas, Rossmann, Müller, and other stores, one thing was clear. These Guerlain fragrances are exactly what I like to smell. But can I wear it? Does it suit me? Is it my scent?
Never let it go .. just saved for later and then came the new flanker, which is also limited.. had to research right away and saw the great reviews of the past freshies… I couldn't resist.. the trap had snapped shut.

Am I glad that I sometimes give in. A wonderful scent.
I am increasingly realizing that the super sweet gourmand or dark oud/leather fragrances are not my world. It’s fresh, refined scents. Scents that are well made. That invite you to linger and enjoy. To grant a moment of peace.
Here it is this grapefruit. It gives me a nice fresh kick and a little motivation boost.
After that comes a suitable sweetness that invites you to indulge.

Very good for layering with Bois Impérial Eau de Parfum. The grapefruit on top of the synthetic freshness fits and multiplies each other.

French perfumery is now an excuse 4 subpar products. Citrus + light synthcense w/ metal accent. Too simple, too short. Pour l'homme barbant.

Amazing scent. It definitely doesn't play to the snobs expectations (look at some statement of the snobs below. Great summer spring scent.

Suspecting to be "Discontinued" long before reaching the entire markets, thus- the price soon will be on LV prices. Damn, again

Very different than PP. Cold cinnamon, airy incense, spice, lemon rind up top. Really nice, not redundant to PP, Sig scent.

Bright fresh citruses with the classic Guerlain almond and a slightly smokey incense.
Guerlain never misses.
Like the original EDT, 10/10.

Less citrus, green nutty than the original Cologne. More peppery kind of fresh, cool incense. More stoic. Not for me. Try Zoologist Macaque Fuji Apple

After Cologne & Prive, the next super beautiful scent:-) Extremely delicious citrus and almond notes - slightly metallic and with a masculine spice!

Hats off to Delphine for pulling off this twist. I can't think of any scent that embodies the range from citrusy green to gourmand spicy so well.

The opening is very zesty and fresh, slightly bitter.
Citrusy, with a hint of green nuttiness.
Later, vetiver and incense.
Almond lingers in the background.
