Also "without" a poem!
By "without" I mean the alcohol. What makes this vintage scent last for years as a substitute, I do not know. However, the bouquet comes in the top note without the usual short-lived "flag" that perfumes typically have. Peach and bergamot compete in both major and minor keys, while the delicate fruity sweetness of honeydew melon adds a soft rhythm.
Later, when all the (non-sweet) flowers and woods join in, it gets really interesting. Clove on top, a dark spicy rose behind it - surrounded by a bit of jasmine (more green-floral) and ylang-ylang. The cedarwood adds strong resinous-woody tones - without imitating a "pencil."
Underneath, the base notes are already rumbling, but they take their time to fully reveal themselves. First, inky oakmoss emerges, then sandalwood and incense drift in - a great "team," underpinned by fine amber. The finale features beautiful grassy earth notes, with vetiver and patchouli together reminding one of the 1970s - the vintage feeling is complete.
Compared to the "normal" Halston Cologne, the "Without" unfortunately shines slightly less, but is all the richer and purer for it. Another Bernard Chant masterpiece in the same scent concept, with slightly shifted note priorities. WONDERFUL!!!! :-))
