Nocturnal masterwork
Halston Night is the "lost" Halston. It was never really popular like the original. I have some left over from the early 1980s. I had to have anything with that label. I wished I could say the same about 101, as it is lost to time. I believe my DNA strands have Halston embossed on them!

The fragrance tree is missing the nice carnation that is very sweet, honeyed jasmine and a tactile narcissus at the heart. Crossed with the brash tuberose, this is one of the ultimate "lipstick rose" productions ever to hit the market. It is a strait up beeswax floral with some oakmoss, patchouli and a whisper of vetiver resting on an amber/sandalwood base.

This was NYC in 1980. Big city lights, Patrick Nagel sleekness ushering in the MTV generation. Blondie's "Call Me" is blasting on the radio. This is Halston, after all and it demanded a wild night on the town.

The bottle needs to be held in your had to be fully appreciated. Indeed, it is provocative and sleek. It is sculptural and reminds me of a vampire fang. I remember how my bottle of 101 felt

Wearing a few sprays can fill the room. Its big and feminine, yet I feel comfortable in this forgotten masterpiece. It requires you to act like you are in "The Hunger". This is forever 1983. If you missed this in the day, by all means hunt down a bottle before its too late and the already limited stock dwindles!

Awake the Disco Diva!!!
Think lycra shorts, cropped tops seductively draped to expose a shoulder shimmering with body glitter, impossible platform boots and teased hair and what comes rushing out of a bottle of Halston Night is the most impish Disco Diva you can imagine!

I'm a child of the 80's … when I look back at photos of my teenage years I grimace … and then I smile … and then I laugh delightedly at the abandon of it all! What a time of utter excess … it was just incredible! Halston Night encapsulates the feeling of those days in a few sprays!
This fragrance is a big, rich, creamy oriental base with bits and pieces of florals and citruses raising a loud voice every now and then. I've no doubt that the sample I am testing from is vintage and Halston Night is all about massive 'in-your-face-ness'. It's wonderful!! There is richness here … it is dense … emanating in never ending waves of flashing disco lights and thumping music!! This is the smell of shoulder pads and blue eyeshadow … drape trouser suits and the Hustle.
There is very little point in trying to analyse the note structure here … it's just one big mashup of fabulousness … spicy florals, tons of powder, vanillic creaminess … big and bold like the decade it belongs to!!

What a pity that such gems are relegated to the graveyard of perfume history. Find some of this if you can and " … feel loooove …" ...

Evening Dress in Disco Style
The outgoing seventies and the beginning eighties were the peak time when people my age (54) went to discos, danced to Donna Summer, Kim Wilde, and Blondie, and tried to outdo each other with outfits and scents. The louder, more garish, or more extravagant, the better. We were enveloped in true clouds of fragrance, often having a comatose effect on those around us. Especially on the tram, which we often took to dance and back, people would frequently make room for us with embarrassed wrinkled noses. So much for our olfactory past. Until... yes, until we discovered the newly released "Halston Night" back then. A strong, yet pleasantly moderate oriental spicy floral scent that was quite different from the previously used wheezy and panting fragrances. For me, it was almost elegant. A different fragrance strategy was now in order. It was no longer just about being loud, but about the "finer" and "nobler." My friends and I sometimes received compliments: "Where did you get that lovely scent, what is it called, and how much does it cost?" It wasn't that expensive back then, I don't remember exactly, but about 15 Deutsche Marks for a 30 ml bottle, which lasted what felt like an eternity. And for us, it was a better going-out scent, basically an evening dress for Friday or Saturday night outings. I was part of the first "generation" of adults at 18/19. (The legal age was lowered from 21 to 18 in 1980). And we felt fantastic, even though we were still quite childish in many ways. (I still am often today). I recently reacquired "Halston Night," almost 50 ml for 4 euros at a flea market, vintage, bottle as shown above. And: it is still a lovely "water" with its golden-brown color and floral oriental scent. It starts with a green-tinged fruity citrus note and knows what it wants, without being shrill. The same goes for the floral heart note, where the various nuances of carnation dominate, accompanied by rose and lily of the valley, beautifully "noble" supported by fine powdery iris. And the whole thing has just the right spark of fine sweetness, far from being cloying. And what appears in the base is warm and cozy (amber, benzoin, balsamic), yet the woody and mossy tones, supported by a bitter vetiver (at least that's what I smell), add a very pleasant bitterness. And: Halston Night is nostalgic, yet real in the here and now.

For Nocturnal Raids.....
Halston is a very heavy fragrance,
which has been excellently suited
for use as an evening companion.
The information on the ingredients that I found online
doesn't quite hint at the intensity of this scent.
The top note is not as citrusy as one might think; I found it rather powdery.
This powdery note carried through the very intense heart note, very floral
and beautifully balanced with the nuances of clove.
As a base, oakmoss and vetiver provided the fragrance with depth and spice, making the floral aspect interesting.
I have enjoyed using Halston very much.

A "wild" disco freak, floral punch, and a rich Oriental-Chypre in one bottle. If you like it "hot," this is the right choice!!
