Dialogue with the Alter Ego
A summer fragrance should refresh!

- Yep, at least in the heat.

So it must smell citrusy!

- Nope.

But of course! It should refresh!

- And?!

Look, the Duden says the meaning of ‘refresh’ is: to revive or to rejuvenate with external means.

- Who on earth still uses the Duden today?!

Well, I do (quietly: and on the side, you too...)!!! And besides, it's recognized semantics in German studies...

- Yeah, yeah, Ms. Germanist is talking again! So boring!

So listen! And anyway, what could be more refreshing than a citrusy scent?!

- Well, a herbal-green one, that's crystal clear! Smell your wrist!

Oh, what you always go on about, that ... oh yes, quite fresh.

- Look at that, fresh then? Can you be a bit more precise, Ms. Germanist?

Now wait a minute! Hmmh, green...and spicy...could be ginger...

- Go on...!

Don't rush me like that! A fragrance needs to unfold and develop ...

- Blah blah...continue!

With you, it can be so exhausting sometimes! Really!

- Don't whine! There was plenty of time to unfold during your rambling, so come on!

Herbs! I smell herbs. Wait a minute, I know this...exactly! It's thyme!

- Well sniffed! Anything else?

What do you mean, anything else?

- And you say you have a hard time with me... Do you smell anything else?!?!

Uh, um, well, I would say there's something in the background. Difficult... some spice is there... I can't quite place it, it's so subtle...

- Good grief, you cook with it so often, what kind of blind nose are you?!

Now that's enough...!!!

- Basil.

What now?

- Oh man, it's basil that you smell.

Oh yes, that could be it, I knew I recognized the scent, but I couldn't quite place it, but now that you mention it, from cooking, yes exactly, but the very fresh leaves, just picked ...

- Say, did you swallow some speaking pearls? That's enough now! Smell again!

With you, this is no fun at all, really not. Always this rushing... yeah, I get it, I'm smelling already. So, a bit woody, light wood, but really very subtle.

- There you go!

And all the while, there's still something... I've smelled it from the beginning...

- Okay, enough sniffing, we've got it now!

Now wait a minute. I do smell something...

- Yeah, yeah, what you always smell... should we get a drink?

What's gotten into you all of a sudden? So friendly? But sure, I'll have one... Ha!!! I know what it is!!!

- sigh

It's lemon! Yes! It's lemon! From the very beginning! In the background, but it's there! Like a base! Or foundation!

- What do you want to drink now?

Citrusy! Didn't I say so? From the very beginning! Summer fragrances are citrusy!

- Yesss, got it. What are you drinking now, my dear, another one?!?!

CITRUSY! I knew I was right. Okay, not prominently citrusy. Not typically citrusy either, more like lemony-green. But still...!!!

- Yes, citrusy, citrusy, citrusy! Everyone got it!! What-do-you-want-to-drink????

I'll have a lemon soda...

- That was obvious...

Side note: Actually, I get along quite well with myself, and the conversations with myself are quite peaceful and entertaining. Only now and then does my alter ego have little outbursts. But what kind of teacher would I be if I couldn't manage that... It would be a laugh!

A Fragrance That Doesn't Hurt Anyone
The name "Hildegard Brauckmann" lacks any glamour; I imagine an older lady with graying hair in a bun and sturdy shoes, resolutely clearing her herb garden of pesky weeds in the early morning hours.

Hildegard first removes a few limes and mandarins that have fallen into the basil patch. The citrus freshness, combined with the green spiciness, creates a fine opening for this little water.

Next up is the thyme. Here it is very subtle, more of a lightly herbal-medical note to be sensed, not like in the perfume Le Petit Grain by Miller Harris, where I felt like I had applied a cough syrup. The thyme plants in Hildegard's patch are probably still very small.

Everything remains very fresh and green and rather subtle, with no great sillage. The thyme impression dominates the heart note. A while later, amber and woods join in, also very subtle, so subtle that I sense them more than I can smell them, and not poorly done.

Soon, however, Hildegard is already done with her gardening, and the scent is nearly gone.

This little fragrance would be something for hot summer days when you want a quick freshness kick that disappears as quickly as it comes.

I find the designation "Eau de Toilette" to be quite an overstatement here; it is more of an Eau de Cologne. I would have wished for a bit more fragrance concentration. However, at a price of 9.95 for 30 ml, this is bearable.

Overall, a rather nice composition, perhaps a bit trivial. The scent would be suitable for people who prefer not to wear strong perfumes and want to smell natural, or for young girls (and boys).

At this price, it is also an impulse buy candidate at the checkout; the bottle is small, handy, round with a light green plastic cap, simple but quite pretty. Also suitable as a gift. I wouldn’t buy it for myself right now, but I wouldn’t be unhappy if someone gifted me this scent. It just doesn’t hurt anyone.

Pleasant herbal green unsweetened freshness kick with citrus sprinkles and a hint of wood. Simple and straightforward, and that's just fine.

A fine green refreshment for hot days when you want something other than citrus. H+S Cologne is typically subtle. Delicate.

Great blend of bold green and refreshing citrus notes with a warm-spicy base. Unbeatable at this price.

The lemony, tangy sunshine note reminds me a bit of Azurée. Unfortunately, then soap comes in where the leather should be. Still pretty.

KN: Citrusy-herbaceous splash with a hint of ginger
HN: Even more herbs, thyme is the king here

First nice and herbal, later a lot of lemon and soapier than at the beginning. Always welcome for summer and daily refreshment.

This herb garden is totally fragrant. Herbal lemonade with a fresh bundle of herbs and lime slices in a wooden cup. Fresh, green, good.

Citrusy-green and herbal. Unfortunately, it turns into Mr. Clean in my nose...

Green-herb-oily. Thought there was patchouli in it. The oily note (amber?) bothers me.
