island girl
1804 is a tropical fantasy of a perfume. Speaking for my people, pasty white folks, tropical is something we can refer to but can never really pull off. We just weren't meant to. And though I shout to the heavens that taste is arbitrary, nuance can be the difference between a sunburnt, drunken conga line listing to "Don't Worry, Be Happy" and a quiet hand-in-hand evening walk in the sand.

Imagine one of the huge white floral perfumes on tropical vacation: Joy sunbathing in Moorea or Amouage Gold diving in Tahiti. Keep the volume and the sillage, but dial back the uptight. 1804 is a spicy floriental in the grand manner. The allusion may be to tropical scents, but this bad girl is a classic French perfume in her bones.   As such, 1804 has exceptional form, but since the implied tone of lushness and leisure takes precedence over structure, form gives way to expression.  Form as seen in a 'classical'  white floral fragrance seems like artifice. Intent and composition are fused in 1804 and it achieves that balletic ambition of surpassing technique and simply moving.

1804 is a spectacular application of classical technique and should put the corner-cutting school of perfumery on notice.

Swoon-worthy.

Pineapple attacks!
A warm floral oriental in the grand, classic style. It is very fruity in the begining (not suitable for people who hate pineapple!) . You really must be enamoured of a strong "ananas" topnote in order to be able to enjoy this (I can't). The scent develops into a very strong, remarkably spicy-fruity, gorgeous concoction. Very characteristic, discernible - no easy crowd pleaser - but no fragrance for me, because of the pineapple.
Nevertheless, high quality indeed, elaborated by Sylvie Jourdet who teaches at the ISIPCA in Versailles and who seems to be a professeur "connaisseur", judging by this powerful fragrance.
Don't confound it with "George Sand" by Les Parfums Historiques i.e. MPeG - it is totally different.

Pineapple and Patchouli
Histoires de Parfums 1804, smells the way Chanel's Chance should have smelt. In my opinion, this fragrance is an extension of Chanel's popular perfume. It's more rounded and evidently much sweeter.

1804 opens with a juicy and sour pineapple accord, with an added hint of peach, making this fragrance's opening both fruity and tropical. An earthy and spicy heart is quick to steer 1804 away from fruity floral territory, showing some similarities to Chanel Chance's dominant patchouli heart.

Chance has a tendency to become dry and peppery over time, however 1804 develops further into a deep, creamy and spicy blend. Vanilla aids in providing a sensual drydown. The patchouli also becomes much stronger, almost smelling chocolatey on my skin.

I'm not usually a fan of pineapple in perfume, however Histoires de Parfums has used the note skilfully in this composition. To my nose, 1804 is a rich blend of fruits, spices, vanilla and earthy patchouli. There are many floral notes listed in the scent pyramid, however I wasn't able to smell them.

I think anyone that adores Chanel Chance, Thierry Mugler's Angel, Miss Dior Cherie or Guess Gold, will more than likely enjoy 1804. It's a fragrance of outstanding quality, lasting an entire day on the skin. I recommend.

grilled pineapples
smells like grilled pineapples with warm spices and a dollop of fresh peach, accompanied by some subtle creamy white florals. This scent doesn't feel wholly tropical despite such notes, as the spices keep grounded and warm in a dusty sort of way. The dry down is much woodier, earthier, and warmer, losing the overt fruitiness and becoming a subtle patchouli and warm ambery sort of scent. Very enjoyable!

Not Afraid to Seduce
Histoires de Parfums 1804 has a decidedly Lolita Lempicka-esque demeanor. And that's a very good thing, according to my nose: voluptuous and sumptuous, a thick comfort scent of the woody floriental variety with an ever-so-slightly masculine edge that makes it wearable by guys and gals alike. Although this composition does not contain the trademark Lolita Lempicka licorice note, there is enough overlap of everything else to impart the same general aesthetic to this perfume. Although this is better...

One of the nicest features of the perfumes of Lolita Lempicka is their declarative nature: they are not afraid to seduce, and neither is 1804. Wearing this perfume is a full-fledged experience in and of itself, not merely an accompaniment to whatever one happens to be doing. Sandalwood, patchouli, benzoin, and vanilla combine to anchor the rich floral notes spiced with a touch of nutmeg. I like it a lot!

Zesty pineapple opening triggers hopes that are quickly dashed by the truly fetid, unwashed odor that follows. A repellent experience.

Pineapple, sugary sweet and soulful. Clove, sandalwood, vanilla. Floral as well. Nothing is whiny here. A very cozy scent.

Delicately and elegantly woven fruity-floral sweetness full of grace and charm.
So far, no scent from HdP has disappointed me. Respect.

Fruity freshness transforms into floral-spicy, lightly sweetened, with a subtly woody base, unfortunately a bit too much musk, but it's fun.

Attention: Good mood fragrance! The sweet pineapple at the top fades quickly, making way for a spicy-warm scent with floral notes.

Sweet, candy-like fruity rose is accompanied by slightly animalistic sandalwood, culminating in a deep, resinous-sweet vanilla. Beautiful!
