Snacking chocolate in the cathedral
That I have a soft spot for incense fragrances is I think sufficiently known and yes, I am what the note simply to inspire.
As originally baptized Protestant and already as a child not really receptive to whatever faith messages I have what concerns the fragrance thus also no negative associations regarding incense.

The brand Histoire de Parfums already belongs since my early days at Parfumo to the brands which I follow with great interest and many fragrances of it could convince me. All the more I was curious about this incense fragrance.

During a city stroll in The Hague we landed more or less by chance in the perfumery Celeste and already after the first sniff at the test was clear, which will accompany me home as a vacation souvenir. Fortunately, my husband was also enthusiastic, which facilitated the purchase again.

But now to the fragrance.

Even if incense is listed in the top note, the fragrance is something like the supporting pillar of the fragrance image. In the prelude is very delicate still the chamomile to guess. Before a slightly peppery spice makes itself felt.

Somehow, for my nose, the specified heart notes do not really come to fruition. Where cedar with a lot of imagination could still get there.
Rather, it goes on for me immediately with the base.

Cistus gives the incense note again fragrant support and cocoa (I guess here rather on patchouli) with a touch of vanilla give the fragrance now something soft and relaxed. So I imagine it when you secretly nibble in a cathedral for mass some chocolate, after the acolytes have just passed with the thurible.
The specified oud does not occur for my nose at any time and it will surprise no one if it is also not missed by me.

The durability is super and also the sillage is not exactly shy. This is not so noticeable when wearing it yourself. But my husband had the fragrance now put on several times and he was the entire day clearly, but not unpleasant to smell.

In the basic features Encens Roi is somewhat similar to the fragrance Mystik Incense by Merchant of Venice, which is due to the combination of incense and cocoa.
In direct comparison, however, the MoV is then sweeter and somehow more sensual, in my opinion. But that is of course my subjective feeling.

Encens Roi absolutely needs a preference for incense and who does not have, can probably save the test.

For incense fetishists
... and for those who want to become one.
Here, the theme of incense is fully embraced. Both in the light and the somewhat darker sector. It smokes powerfully here, but doesn't smother or suffocate. Rather, it is a rocking of the soul, on a hammock, somewhere in a quiet, lonely place.

In a nutshell: the name says it all. Incense. A little spice. Delicate sweetness. Frankincense. Light. Dark. Light. Dark again. Lots of incense. As far as the eye or nose can see.

The fragrance starts with a cool touch. It is initially very brightly smoky, undermined by a cool nuance of the approaching winter night. In the background, there is a light rustle of pepper and a lovely teenage note. I can't catch any chamomile here, it's more like peppermint tea. The fragrance fades into the night before becoming much more resinous and, above all, spicy. The touches become warmer. The shade falls deep. Earthy tones blend in. From light incense, the scent descends into much darker facets, which are, however, offset by delicate cocoa sweetness. There is also a creamy touch of praline, slightly enriched with vanilla. At the heart flutters a mixture of Swiss stone pine, freshly infused in a sauna. Strong charcoal aspects fizz into the air, mixing with steam. The fragrance falls softly into the thighs, embracing and caressing.

An incense fragrance that is not only cool, but also warm. I like the stuff. Above all, the fragrance doesn't seem distant, but clearly close to the skin and also very intimate, in my opinion. The play between light and dark is repeated again and it is a long and faithful companion for the day. I visibly enjoyed applying it to my warmed skin today after my body had spent the whole day in the spa. When I stepped out into the cold, the senses of incense literally sparkled into the cold night.

The resins that all lovers of the genre need!
Many have no idea what they are talking about and think they are experts in perfumery. First of all, this creation is by far among the most beautiful and well-crafted perfumes in the entire Histoires de Parfums collection. Secondly, it is not a common composition but one of oriental-western symbiosis. It is what you could want more from a liturgical resinous but which has some key elements, which differentiate it from the well-known CDG Incense Avignon, Heleey - Cardinal, etc. That ambery, patchy base, with interesting aspects of cocoa - which does not lead to anything food, nothing pastry, but has the fixed role of giving the composition an even more balsamic and opulent and heavy aspect. It is a complex perfume in which frankincense, sacred and ancient since the beginning of time, shines superlatively. Don't be fooled by the negative comments, they have no idea what they're talking about and don't understand truly creative compositions. I love it, from the first puff, it is a natural answer to the wishes of lovers of absolute resins.

unique
A very distinctive and beautiful scent. The mixture of frankincense, oud, and chocolate is very luxurious and wonderful, and it differs from other perfumes. I have not found a perfume that smells similar to it at all, and this is a good thing. A fragrance that brings a lot of praise and compliments. The performance is very high and unobtrusive. I advise everyone to try this wonderful fragrance.

The Driest
So I bought this and had high hopes based on the notes breakdown. And I must say it did not disappoint.

The opening was a blast of pimento / rainbow bell pepper and lemon. It somewhat reminded me of Habit Rouge EDT's opening (don't worry this smells nothing like Habit Rouge if you don't like that)

Then comes this lemony, mineral-like, bitter, dry Olibanum. I want to emphasize how DRY this perfume is. The opening is the only time you get a hint of dewiness from that pimento but the whole journey is like walking through a complete desert. Hot, dry, ambient, reflective.

This smells quite different on skin vs clothes. On skin, I lose the olibanum a lot faster and the whole scent is taken over by an ultra-dry, woody faceted labdanum. On clothes, I find the olibanum lasts a lot longer.

For that reason, I think I'll wear this on clothes more since I really enjoy that lemony olibanum.

I think the whole scent is simple, by that I mean you can detect the notes very distinctly from each other. The scent has a beautiful transformation from opening pepper, heart olibanum, and base labdanum.

If you like Interlude Man, but find the projection a bit too much and unwearable, try this. I think this is an elegant, office-friendly version of Interlude you can enjoy. Very long lasting but projection is never above 3 ft.

Worth the money even at retail IMO, because HdP's pretty generous with their juice amount and you don't need a lot of sprays for it to last.
