The resins that all lovers of the genre need!
Many have no idea what they are talking about and think they are experts in perfumery. First of all, this creation is by far among the most beautiful and well-crafted perfumes in the entire Histoires de Parfums collection. Secondly, it is not a common composition but one of oriental-western symbiosis. It is what you could want more from a liturgical resinous but which has some key elements, which differentiate it from the well-known CDG Incense Avignon, Heleey - Cardinal, etc. That ambery, patchy base, with interesting aspects of cocoa - which does not lead to anything food, nothing pastry, but has the fixed role of giving the composition an even more balsamic and opulent and heavy aspect. It is a complex perfume in which frankincense, sacred and ancient since the beginning of time, shines superlatively. Don't be fooled by the negative comments, they have no idea what they're talking about and don't understand truly creative compositions. I love it, from the first puff, it is a natural answer to the wishes of lovers of absolute resins.

unique
A very distinctive and beautiful scent. The mixture of frankincense, oud, and chocolate is very luxurious and wonderful, and it differs from other perfumes. I have not found a perfume that smells similar to it at all, and this is a good thing. A fragrance that brings a lot of praise and compliments. The performance is very high and unobtrusive. I advise everyone to try this wonderful fragrance.

The Driest
So I bought this and had high hopes based on the notes breakdown. And I must say it did not disappoint.

The opening was a blast of pimento / rainbow bell pepper and lemon. It somewhat reminded me of Habit Rouge EDT's opening (don't worry this smells nothing like Habit Rouge if you don't like that)

Then comes this lemony, mineral-like, bitter, dry Olibanum. I want to emphasize how DRY this perfume is. The opening is the only time you get a hint of dewiness from that pimento but the whole journey is like walking through a complete desert. Hot, dry, ambient, reflective.

This smells quite different on skin vs clothes. On skin, I lose the olibanum a lot faster and the whole scent is taken over by an ultra-dry, woody faceted labdanum. On clothes, I find the olibanum lasts a lot longer.

For that reason, I think I'll wear this on clothes more since I really enjoy that lemony olibanum.

I think the whole scent is simple, by that I mean you can detect the notes very distinctly from each other. The scent has a beautiful transformation from opening pepper, heart olibanum, and base labdanum.

If you like Interlude Man, but find the projection a bit too much and unwearable, try this. I think this is an elegant, office-friendly version of Interlude you can enjoy. Very long lasting but projection is never above 3 ft.

Worth the money even at retail IMO, because HdP's pretty generous with their juice amount and you don't need a lot of sprays for it to last.

Chocolate Nibbling in the Cathedral
That I have a penchant for incense fragrances is probably well known, and yes, I am simply easily excited when it comes to this note.
As someone who was originally baptized Protestant and was never really receptive to any religious messages as a child, I therefore have no negative associations regarding incense when it comes to the fragrance note.

The brand Histoire de Parfums has been one of the brands I have followed with great interest since my early days at Parfumo, and many of their fragrances have convinced me. I was all the more curious about this incense scent.

During a stroll in The Hague, we more or less accidentally ended up in the Celeste perfumery, and after the first sniff during the test, it was clear that this would accompany me home as a vacation souvenir. Fortunately, my husband was also enthusiastic, which made the purchase even easier.

Now, onto the scent.

Even though incense is listed in the top notes, the fragrance note is somewhat like the supporting pillar of the scent structure. In the opening, the chamomile can still be faintly sensed. Before a slightly peppery spiciness makes itself known.

Somehow, the listed heart notes don't really come through for my nose. Although cedar could still make an appearance with a lot of imagination.
Rather, it moves on to the base for me.

Cistus gives the incense note fragrant support, and cocoa (I suspect it's more patchouli here) with a hint of vanilla gives the scent a soft and relaxed quality. That's how I imagine it when someone secretly nibbles on chocolate during a mass in a cathedral, right after the altar boys have just passed by with the incense burner.
The listed oud never appears for my nose, and it won't surprise anyone that I don't miss it either.

The longevity is excellent, and the sillage is not exactly shy. You don't notice it as much when wearing it yourself. But my husband has worn the scent several times now, and it was distinctly noticeable throughout the day, but not unpleasantly so.

In its basic features, Encens Roi is somewhat similar to the fragrance Mystik Incense by Merchant of Venice, which can be attributed to the combination of incense and cocoa.
In direct comparison, however, the MoV is sweeter and somehow more sensual, in my opinion. But of course, that's my subjective feeling.

Encens Roi absolutely requires a fondness for incense, and those who do not have that can probably skip the test.

For Frankincense Fetishists
.. and for those who want to become one.
Here, the theme of frankincense is fully embraced. Both in the bright and in the slightly darker sector. It smokes heavily here, but does not overwhelm or suffocate. Rather, it is a gentle rocking of the soul, on a hammock, somewhere in a quiet, lonely place.

In short: The name says it all about what this is about. Frankincense. A bit of spice. Delicate sweetness. Frankincense. Bright. Dark. Bright. Again dark. Lots of frankincense. As far as the eye, or rather the nose, can see.

The scent begins with a cool touch. It is initially very bright and smoky, undercut by a cool nuance of the approaching winter night. In the background, there is a slight rustle of pepper and a lovely tea note. I can't quite catch chamomile here; rather, it is peppermint tea. Thus, the scent dances into the night before it reveals itself to be distinctly resinous and, above all, spicier. The touches transition into warmer notes. The shadow falls deep. Earthy tones mix in. From the bright frankincense, one descends into significantly darker facets, which, however, are caught by a delicate cocoa sweetness. Along with a creamy touch of praline, slightly enriched with vanilla. In the heart, a blend of cedarwood flutters, freshly poured in a sauna. Strong charred aspects hiss into the air, mixing with steam. The scent softly falls into the legs, embracing and caressing.

A frankincense scent that reveals itself not only as cool but also warm. I really like this stuff. Above all, the scent does not feel distant but rather very close and intimate, as I find. The play between light and dark repeats itself once again, and it is a long and faithful companion for the day. I visibly enjoyed applying it to my warmed skin today, after my body had spent the whole day in the spa. When I then stepped into the cold, the senses of frankincense practically burst forth into the cold night.

A fragrance that breaks the monotony of the usual 'incenses'. Peppery and with a quid that makes it very original.

An unusual and contrasting blend of cold, churchy incense with synthetic oud accord, aromatic spices, and warm, cozy cocoa.

Essentially a single-note incense scent, but beautifully complemented by a touch of labdanum and pepper in a refined subtle way.

Here, you need an absolute preference for incense; the other notes are just decorative embellishments. Chamomile is too
