Actually the fragrance I've been looking for
First of all: Absolute beginner, I have never really dealt much with perfumes.
I was mostly the type - I use the one perfume that I get as a gift until it's empty.

The year before last, I had a dubious perfume dealer show me a range of scents for the first time and that's when I encountered this fragrance.
Meaning: I have almost no references and can only say what I like about this scent.

I find the fragrance incredibly wonderful, bergamot, herbal, grassy but also rounded... cool but with a slight sweetness. Personally, I find it masculine but not overpowering. Additionally, it feels quite natural rather than synthetic.
The scent doesn't last forever and doesn't really project, but in closer contact, it works very well.
The strong bergamot note quickly fades into the background and the herbal mossy note remains.

The bottle is pretty, simple, and the attached label makes it look, of course, not like the most expensive bottle in the world, but it's still simply and beautifully natural.

Unfortunately, according to Jean and Len, it has been sold out and will not be restocked.
If it comes back, let me know, I'll take anything.

Of Herbs, Sea, Moss, and Elm
One of the "forest sprites" that makes sniffing a pleasure is precisely this one! Because it is not just one of those gnarled, green representatives, but brings along a whole entourage of other elements. There is the northeast wind, which carries an "aquatic" breeze from the sea. It sweeps in cool and slightly salty!
Then there is "the herbalist" or a "herb lady," responsible for aromatic fields with the essence of a "cottage garden."
The "chief MOOSER" also doesn't need to hide. The green-clad one from the trunks of ancient trees, predominantly found on the north side. And while I'm on the subject of tree trunks, an old, gnarled elm joins in. The bark is cracked and rough, the light green sap fresh-green and woody-scented.
Now these "Fantastic Four" have been conjured into a fragrance that makes the nostrils of lovers of classic Fougères and extraordinary green aquatics flutter with fragrant delight! Yes, and it is even suitable for "layering" to really add some excitement to slightly boring other perfumes. Whether pure or in a duo: Of herbs, sea, moss, and "elm," both "naser" and "näsin" can experience full richness here :-))

For Fresh Wood-on-Moss-Floor Fans: Great Layer Fragrance
On the one hand, I want to emphasize that Highlands is rated as a layer fragrance. On the other hand, I want to avoid comparing it as a "dupe" to an "original" already read here. Furthermore, I mean to say that Highlands does not need to be granted independence to have a "great" performance as a layer.

Highlands is a fragrance that is typically fresh in the top note, typically woody in the lasting heart note, and typically mossy-herbaceous in the even more generously lasting base note. All three areas appeal to fans of Armani He/ Lui, the nearly forgotten Bottega Veneta pour Homme, and the comparatively hyped Dior Sauvage.

This "typical" makes Highlands either a layer or, in my opinion, misunderstood by others as a "dupe." For He/ Lui, it lacks the fine-spicy intensity; for pour Homme, the woody-strong character; and for Sauvage, the peppery-nose-wrinkling elitism (which "convinces" in a mass-appealing way). So, what is Highlands good for? Because neither does a noble and dignified bergamot-vanilla duet emerge, nor more than simple memories of the mentioned EdTs and perfumes, making a replacement/dupe useless.

A simple image suffices to underline this. A woman who is unabashedly in love with a certain man is so because they can smell each other, that is, because of his scent. This is about the clear independence that can be unmistakably sensed by the person. Another man who might smell similar will only remind the woman of her love. And thus, she thinks of her "original." The dupe hardly holds any special significance anymore. With that, we are already at the end of my argument.

Anyone who is aware that both He/ Lui and pour Homme run out of steam after two to five hours and knows that this is due to the then weak base note will find in Highlands a support as a layer, which helpfully compensates for the soul missing in the top and heart notes. After two hours, He/ Lui still smells like itself, while a base note appears that can carry its "soul." As for pour Homme, the subtle noble woods remain stronger as long as their trees are nestled in a mossy-woodsy-soft base humus. I consider layering Sauvage inappropriate, unless we just want to save money, because its longevity remains good, and those who like Sauvage can continue to stand by it.

Does the Scotsman smell like this under his kilt?
No, definitely not. Because the scent is not bad at all. However, I wouldn't call it a positive surprise.

Last night, I stood bored in the checkout line of my trusted drugstore. To my right was the perfume shelf and the question in my head was whether this placement is a similar sales tactic for us perfume lovers as the thing with the sweets at the supermarket checkout, where whiny kids plead with their moms for chocolate and gum in the final stretch.

Anyway: My hand confidently reached for Highlands. The red sticker "New!" made me a bit curious, but primarily I found the pretty, minimalist bottle with a wooden cap and the atypical phrase "Moments without fuss" appealing. The copywriter is trying to be cool here; it reminds me a bit of the youthful marketing of the got2be hair care line (also available at the drugstore), where the hair gel is sometimes called "Glue" and the mattifying hairspray "Beach Matte." You probably know it... You might find it funny, but you don’t have to.

And since we all certainly won't be blinded by marketing when it comes to perfume (*wink wink), I hastily spray two times from the tester onto my wrist, then pay my 13.82 euros and subsequently raise my arm towards my nose with an open mind.

I'll keep it short: What you can smell here is by no means bad. No, it's even relatively good for 25 euros. A glance at the fragrance pyramid and I must say: You get exactly what you can expect. A woody-mossy-fresh scent, quite natural and without the often rightly criticized shower gel synthetic smell found in drugstore fragrances. I also find the scent quite youthful (by that I mean a target audience around 30 years old) and yet distinctly masculine. However: I don't notice any scent development even an hour later. Highlander loses a bit of its brilliance over time but still smells exactly the same as at the beginning. That bores me. Yes, it even annoys me after a while. Therefore, it doesn't go beyond "mediocre" for me.

However, for those who find "solid" sufficient and care about a good price-performance ratio, you can actually buy this without any worries.

Scotland is by the sea. Unfortunately, I don't pick up on herbs, moss, or wood. Just aquatic-synthetic freshness. Tested without bias.

The best SAUVAGE dupe I've smelled so far. I couldn't notice any difference even in the drydown.

Mossy-fresh with a hint of wood. It doesn't evolve, but stays naturally herbal. At €25, it's great for a small budget without smelling cheap.

Herb-green spice meets grassy mossy ground and the rough sea! A good-natured grump with a forest-dweller sailor duality. Unusual-!

Green forest air with a spicy bitterness. Similar to its famous counterpart, but less bitter and a bit fruity with apple.

The little brother of "Sauvage," but with less power and fresher too. The scent fades quite quickly.

Who finds Armani He/ Lui lacking in longevity? Highlands supports it as a layer on every level: Lui intenso. Amazing!

Not bad at all, but the top note reminds me too much of Sauvage.
