Cherry Pipe Tobacco Surprise
The pleasant surprise awaited me with Boum Vanille Sa Pomme d’Amour. Now this one has some substance to it. As I sit here writing this seven hours later, I still can smell this enjoyable fragrance on my arm. Boum Vanille is definitely not for the faint of heart, either. It is sweet. Not necessarily candy-like sweet, although that’s the first impression.
When I first sprayed it, I thought candy apples. And I wondered how could anyone want to smell like a candy apple? But then within minutes the drydown began and I was pleasantly surprised. This perfume began to mellow down into a very pleasant cherry pipe tobacco type fragrance that is wonderful for the colder weather. The vanilla seems to sit inside the tobacco while the musk lends credence to this perfume’s solidarity. I can see myself wearing it when the weather turns brisk again next year, when snow begins to fall, and when the fireplace is going during the holidays. It’s that kind of perfume.
It lasts for hours, which for the price point of 9.99, is incredible. The bottle size is 3.4 oz with a cheesy little plastic sprayer that if you’re not too careful can easily pop off and break, so beware. But the juice inside is well worth it.
As a matter of fact, it reminds me very much of Royal Apothic Edwardian Fireplace. If you’re looking for a unisex scent that talks to you of a pipe tobacco, this is it, albeit packaged in pink. It’s not cloying at all. It can be strong depending on how it’s sprayed, but again, for the season, it’s a delight. Or, consider this a rainy day tobacco perfume. This floral-fruity certainly has it’s uses. But I can see why one would enjoy this perfume. It's different.
Again, try before you buy if you can.

Gentle fruity vanilla.. like eating candy apples at the fair!
This is a very nice and subtle, sweet and warm fragrance. It's like a candy apple (or "toffee apple") in fragrance form. At the fairground, you can eat an apple on a stick dipped and covered in melted caramelised sugar. This fragrance I think tries to emulate that.

I get a very nice red apple note, surrounded by a boozy vanilla that is all around it. The vanilla is a little alcoholic and reminds me of pure vanilla extract (not so sweet, but borderline sour-sweet). All this gives a very unique "gourmand" quality to the fragrance.

The house of Jeanne Arthes is (in my experience) a house which always offers good, decent smelling fragrances for a cheap and affordable price. In fact, some of her perfumes often smell a lot more expensive than they actually are!

This is one that anyone can wear from 14 to 40. It's really inoffensive, pleasant, and people will like the sweetness I think because it's not so "generic". Like I said, the boozy vanilla mixed with the apple note is nice. Not so sugary sweet as to fit in with the countless "teen" fragrances. At least this one shows that it has grown up a little, even if it keeps it's "playful" vibe. A good buy for the money I think. You can't go wrong if you're looking for a sweet and playful vanilla with a little edge to it.

More than just a candy apple
I didn't expect all that much from this little cheapie, but I was pleasantly surprised. The first couple of minutes mainly smell of apple, which is not particularly far on either side of the red to green apple spectrum. It does not have the screechy artificial green apple flavor that sometimes ruins apple fragrances for me, but it does smell a little shampoo-ish at first and also has a bit of that alcohol opening that cheap fragrances are known for.

But it gets better very quickly! The alcohol burns off in seconds, and soon the vanilla comes out and warms everything up. I think this is actually more apple pie than candy apple! It also smells a little woodsy, even though none of the listed notes indicate this.

In my opinion this is in the same family as Al-Rehab Golden Sands and Swiss Arabian Casablanca, and somewhat more distantly related to Le Couvent Eau des Missions, Kayali Vanilla 28, Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille and many more. I'm not saying that Vanille & Sa Pomme d'Amour will work as a perfect budget replacement for the very refined Guerlain, so don't get your hopes up, just that they're losely related. Recently I noticed that some other fragrances in this vein (namely 7 Virtues Vanilla Woods and OdE Caldo Gourmand) have an unpleasant cardboard note on my skin, and I'm happy to report that this one doesn't.
What makes it stand out from the others is that it's the lightest and fruitiest of the whole bunch.

If you're looking for a nice autumnal vanilla with apple that is suitable for casual everyday wear, it's a lovely choice, provided you can live with 1-2 minutes of a typical cheapie opening and a childish bottle.

Candied Apple Goodness!
I purchased this one in a drugstore years ago. I had no idea about the notes or what it was supposed to smell like. I just saw the cute circus box and "Vanille" (obviously I didn't pay much attention in my French class since it says vanilla and apple. Haha) and thought it would be up my alley. It totally was! Make no mistake, this fragrance does not pretend to be a $300 perfume, however, it performs better than a usual cheapie. Upon first spray you get delicious apple followed by praline. To me, it reads more candy apple than caramel apple. On the dry down, you get a super sweet vanilla. I am a fan of sweet gourmands and this one is so good! This does smell synthetic, but in the best way possible. A sugary, candied vanilla apple. I do not pick up on the orange note at all. This lasts decently on me, about 7-8 hours. The sillage is definitely close to the skin. I agree with the reviewer that said this is a great "to bed" scent. You can enjoy the candy apple and fall asleep to the sweet vanilla and it will be gone in the morning. You can just add your day scent without having to worry about accidental layering. Great value for the price!

Carnival Nostalgia
Another underrated gem from the house of Arthes…mine came in a gift set with a lotion and lip gloss :D Pomme d’Amour is carnival/fair in a bottle. Sweet candy apples, vanilla sugar, and a little bit of something smoky in there somewhere. It’s perfect for fall. Not very strong or long lasting but at that low of a price and such a large bottle size, it allows for frequent touch-ups.
