Style and No Substance

In these days of Internet meetings, people have taken to buying job lots of books to display on their shelves, giving them the appearance of being well read. The book is judged solely by its cover, the contents are irrelevant.
And so it is with Jil.
A stylish column of frosted glass, with another column of white plastic for the cap; the name Jil is in tiny red letters, it's all very chic and minimal.
And the perfume? ... that's minimal too. Weak hairspray chocolate.
Put it on your bathroom shelf, and leave it there.

Nice scent, bad memories...

I received this fragrance from my ex-boyfriend for Christmas in 1999. It is the only scent he ever gave me (my birthday and Valentine's Day during our time together were unfortunately also...), that I didn't find disgusting.
His motto back then was: I go into the store, buy something as expensive as possible to impress my girlfriend. Whether it matched my age and/or taste was never important. Only with this composition did I get lucky. I still have the perfume in my collection and it still smells good, hasn't gone bad, etc.
Gradually, the memory of this relationship faded, and the weaker it became, the more often and fondly I used this scent!

Christmas Market

I received Jil as a gift from my then-boyfriend's mother, just like that... she said she smelled it and thought of me. (We had been to the Christmas market together the day before.)
For me, this fragrance is connected to the wonderful woman who gave it to me and to the Christmas market. Once because of the memory but also because it smelled like this:
Jil was a warm gourmand fragrance, like the stand of the almond vendor, which I associate with chocolate (and chocolate-covered fruits), vanilla almonds, and roasted almonds in the cold air at a square decorated with fir greenery. I also smelled cinnamon in it and the people next to you in line... the man with the pipe, who gently puffs away, and the woman with the sweet-fruity-floral perfume.
That was all Jil for me - that's how it smelled to me.
Unfortunately, it was taken off the market years ago. In the meantime, there is a fragrance of the same name that has nothing to do with this one scent-wise.

My bottle is now empty and a replacement is not available. Such a shame!

Berry Herb Chocolate

That was a unique scent, with a truly exceptional development.
This berry fruit, with mint, a good amount of lavender, later resinous pine, unsweetened chocolate, and finally something sweet, tonka and vanilla, but rather restrained, close-up, intimate.
Depending on my condition and mood, I perceived one or the other more strongly, always idiosyncratic in its progression, perhaps also temperature-dependent.
The model also matched the fragrance perfectly: natural, pretty, unadorned, with many freckles and this relaxed expression on her face, as naturally beautiful as the scent, just fitting, without makeup, without jewelry, puristic - just berry herb chocolate.

Jil has left us. Unfortunately, far too soon. She was truly a sweet little fruit. Not just any fruit, but one with that amazing chocolate coating, so it cracked with every bite into her wonderfully berry-like curves. (Bellemorte knew her and is surely nodding now)
Nasty tongues, who only knew her fleetingly, might claim she was a superficial, little, naive brat. But that was not the case. Beneath her cheap Rossmann facade, which gave her an affordable image, there was always a warm heart and a wonderful, soft core of nougat and Mövenpick chocolate coating.

As grave decorations, we are using draped violets on fir branches.
The mourners will gather afterwards for coffee, chocolate muffins, chocolate cake, and brownies at the inn "Zum Braunen Hirsch."
