Hello folks, today I'm back with a women's fragrance. This time it's Sunset (EDP) by Jil Sander, a brand that should be familiar to almost everyone.
Sunset sounds quite nice; I mean, who doesn't find a sunset with a bright red sky beautiful? It somehow has a lovely, calming effect and looks absolutely stunning!
Especially in summer, one always hopes that the evening will bring a little cooling, but it's frustrating when it's still muggy and the heat lingers until the next morning. And it's even worse when the cats constantly want to go in and out and often can't decide whether they want to stay inside or outside. Of course, they also want the door to be open all the time, but in this heat, they can forget it! Because on muggy days, they don't get sticky like we humans do and stick to everything, like leather seats; instead, they lounge comfortably somewhere in the shade, but still complain all day long… just like your perfumes… no wonder women and cats are often compared, and even the girls often refer to themselves as cats, he he :D
Phew, I'm somehow not getting to the point and rambling endlessly about everything… where was I again?
Oh right, I recently tested Sunset by Jil Sander. Point! :D
The Scent:
The scent starts fresh and quite clean. Yes, it even briefly smells like freshly washed laundry and has something of fabric softeners. Maybe that's why I chose such a silly title for this fragrance review, as I couldn't think of anything else, and hey, who wouldn't want to see perfumes in underwear in the evening? He he, as always, the rule applies: put down the pitchfork, it's still a bit warmer than one would want to play "Catch the Cheeky Don Juan de Cat" in this heat! :D
Anyway, shortly after, you can smell the fruity peach, which soon blends with general floral notes. The roses can be well detected among all the flowers, and they remain one of the main scent notes here.
From the heart note (and especially in the base), however, the scent becomes quite floral and stuffy. That's something I really dislike in fragrances. Normally floral, when it smells of nice flowers or blossoms, I find quite okay, but when it smells so dry and even slightly biting, then the scent is absolutely not my thing. I'm never sure if I can describe exactly what I mean, but I always find it very unfortunate with fragrances, as it smells really unpleasant to me, at least when sniffed close to the skin.
This impression becomes especially clear in the later base, and only much later do these stuffy scent notes fade away. By then, it almost doesn't matter anymore, as the scent has also reached its end and remains only extremely faint on the skin, making it hardly noticeable. I think there are nicer scents for summer.
The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is normal. You are well perceived when standing next to someone. However, the projection fades quickly. I would estimate the longevity to be around six to seven hours, although it clings to the skin rather weakly for half that time.
The Bottle:
The bottle is rectangular, slim, and dark red. The cylindrical cap is also red and slightly shiny. On the front of the bottle, you can see the fragrance name in large, yellowish-golden letters. All in all, it's a bit simple, but still quite nice, especially since it feels good in the hand.
Conclusion:
So, to be honest, I expected a bit more. Maybe I'm the only one who didn't like the scent that much, and who knows, others might not perceive these biting, dry, stuffy floral notes as I do? Well, you just have to test it for yourselves, but I was hoping for a more relaxed and pleasant scent for summer, especially since the beginning of the fragrance was quite nice, and I usually find most Jil Sander fragrances rather pleasant.
Anyway, you can't have it all (like longer-lasting Tom Ford summer fragrances, non-demanding cats, or perfumes in underwear… he he), but maybe these criticisms are exactly the reasons why one keeps testing endlessly. On one hand, of course, for the fun of it all and the communication here with you pesky folks, and on the other hand, because of the never-ending search for the perfect fragrance, which you probably will never find, because one always has something to complain about! :D
Well, that's it from me again! I wish you all a lovely evening, see you next time :)
