bonne maman
Romantic rosebud jam. But still plush and petally, like wearing a velvet robe. While the name hearkens to the nurses of WWI, fortunately no battlefield or hospital to this beauty. It has an ageless feel, like I could waft it on a Downton Abbey duchess or at a Euphoria house party and not find it incongruous. While linear, it hits that single, burgundy-toned note impeccably well. Not too sweet, not too spicy, not too earthy, not too fresh. My closest comparison is Régime des Fleur’s Little Flower, if you subtracted the pomelo and added crushed raspberries. It is beautiful and wears well (at least 5h on my skin), but didn't feel personal (aka: weird) enough for me to need a bottle.

Mental Snapshot: A postcard-perfect rose garden, next to the Bonne Maman factory. The Goldilocks answer to those who found Young Rose too kiki or Rose Noir too bouba.

tl;dr: rosebud jam

0-Roughness Rose
I don't like rose scents unless it's the smell of Bulgarian rose jam which I tried only once in my life when I was 5 years old. This fragrance here is a garden full of blossoming roses, which, though maintaining their natural roseness, have the appearance of epoxy resin. Their shape is even and round, occasionally round-spiky, the colour is light-peachy. Oh, they start multiplying disproportionally, and I find myself yet to drown ("Hey, we are roses, and we will eat you," they say). I then open my eyes and see a pond full of synthetic roses, just as if it were a children's ball pit. I am not drowning, I am having fun, and I do enjoy my laughs in this place.

delicious but NOT long lasting
A very lovely fresh rose. It does not last that long at all but it gets better longevity after spraying it on freshly showered, moisturised skin and/or clothes. Worth the extra effort for sure. People around me seem to love it, one of the most complimented fragrances in my collection, I've had multiple colleagues, strangers, etc. ask me what I was wearing.

Cozy rose
This scent opens up with fresh roses, but soon after it settles in with the musk and papyrus blending in. That's what makes this such a beautiful, comforting scent to me. It makes perfect sense why this is an ode to the nurses of WWI, since their job was to heal and comfort. It reminds me of Diptyque Orpheon, but more feminine-leaning with the florals. I love this, but I'll have to think long and hard about purchasing a full bottle due to the price.

You are all right, but.....
....the scent feels almost destructive to me.

I can understand every single comment about Rose of No Man's Land. I find the background information about Byredo and its creator highly interesting. I like Scandinavian design (jewelry even more than furniture) and was excited when I first had a sample to test.

My result back then for the scent rating was a solid 9. What a mood, what a wonderful painting, what a beautiful rose. So lovely, as if Bette Midler was just singing it. The scent landed on my wish list and soon after in my collection.

Then the dilemma began, as I found no suitable occasion to wear Rose of No Man's Land. On days when I wasn't feeling well, the scent felt too dark and melancholic, it brought me down, hurt my soul, and especially the base felt dusty and gray to me, with just a few cobwebs missing to complete the picture. It was the first time I felt not repulsed or disgusted by a fragrance, but rather hurt.

When I tried to wear the perfume on days when I felt good and was in a positive mood, I had a similar feeling as if I were wearing the wrong clothes for an important occasion. Uncomfortable is putting it mildly. It didn't fit at all, and so the bottle stood almost reproachfully in my fragrance cabinet, and I was genuinely glad when a grateful recipient was found.

I assume that I would have preferred a base with oak moss, vetiver, or cedarwood, but then it wouldn't have been that special scent anymore. If the perfumer intended to represent the horror of war or the memory of the fallen with this fragrance, then he succeeded perfectly, and thus the scent is a true work of art for me. But it is not a perfume I want to wear.

I left the rating as it is, because the scent is not one bit worse just because I don't feel comfortable with the base in the long run. And who knows, maybe my feelings towards the perfume will change again. It wouldn't be the first time. In my experience, Rose of No Man's Land is a very special scent in our Parfumo portfolio and should be explained as part of olfactory general education. You don't have to like it or wear it, but you should at least know it.

I've never before smelled a rose perfume and immediately thought "This is a rose for a goth boy!" but here we are. Must be the papyrus note.

Dewy, delicate rose. Reminds me of Rosabotanica but more rose prominent. Pathetic performance tho. Carry a travel size with you.

A rosy makeup bag or a pencil box with a light smell of silly putty. Not necessarily in a bad way either.

Beautiful peppery, woody rose. Quite subtle. Every time I wear this I can't stop sniffing myself. Like what is that that smells so good? Me!

This smells like a frozen rose in the best way possible. Crisp and delicate without being cloying, simply smells clean.

airy but overpowering rose bomb. I preferred the freshness of Young Rose.

A true rose in bloom, pink peppercorn on the softest petals. Not complex or deep, but enjoyably fresh.

Rose done well with hints of pink pepper! Would recommend to get your nose on this one, but the price is a huge deterrent!
