Hey guys… yeah I know… don’t say anything… my title probably sounds more than offensive right now! :D
But it’s not like that at all. And if the term banana should serve as a synonym for a male member, then this time it actually came from a woman. To be precise, from a perfumer! But let’s take it step by step.
I met up again with a dear friend who happens to be here in the forum as well. And as our meet-ups usually go, it proceeded quite normally as always, which means: Off to Douglas, sniffing, then out and to the next fragrance store. Along the way, a few dirty jokes from my side (did you expect anything else? … Wait, I’m not THAT bad!!!), or sometimes a few riskier jokes that could lead to a fist on the shoulder (a tip: apparently, you shouldn’t make jokes about a woman’s age… :DD), and in between, a coffee or two.
At some point, we discovered a store that even had many L’Artisan fragrances. These are quite rare to find here in Frankfurt, and my companion suddenly discovered this banana scent while sniffing, which really intrigued me because I generally like bananas. While she immediately wrinkled her nose, I couldn’t get enough of the top note that smelled so wonderfully of banana :D
And when I jokingly told her that I would now rub this banana scent on her so that she would only have to endure this scent until she got home, she fled and said something like: “No, no, if someone is allowed to come near me with their banana, then it’s my boyfriend!” Mu ha ha ha!!!
See? I really only meant a banana, namely the banana scent, but she thought of a… um, quickly swelling organ of guys and… well, anyway, SHE first thought of something indecent, mu ha ha ha, yet another proof that I’m not as bad as I come across here, RIGHT? :DDD
But let’s get to the scent:
The Scent:
So as I said, the top note immediately smells of pure banana. A wonderfully fruity-sweet banana scent wafts out, which simply smells great if you like banana scents. Occasionally, it even comes across as slightly milky and reminds me of Müller milk with banana flavor. Sometimes, however, it also reminds me of the inner peel of bananas, which exude a strong banana scent and smell a bit bitter.
However, shortly after, the scent becomes a bit more perfumey. You can also smell a few light spicy notes in the background, such as pepper and nutmeg. However, these fragrance notes are generally weak, so the banana is essentially the main scent note all the way to the base.
From the base, the bananas are noticeably weaker, so that now the tonka bean can be smelled more and more, which gives off a nice, soft, slightly dark sweet scent. The musk also fits well, offering a similar sweetness to the tonka bean, so it’s also rather dark. By the way, I smell amber less. And that’s basically it. All in all, a scent that sits nicely in the nose, but you mainly wonder at the beginning whether you really want to smell so strongly of bananas :D
The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is initially quite strong, but it fades fairly quickly and settles into an average range that is only still good to smell from close by for a while. The longevity is also not extremely long, so I would estimate the longevity at about six to eight hours before you can hardly smell anything anymore.
The Bottle:
Since the scent is new, it comes in the new bottles from Artisan. The bottle is hexagonal just like the old one, but these bottles have been dark tinted for some time now. The cap is also hexagonal and is heavier than it looks. Otherwise, the bottle is quite handy and, in my opinion, looks very nice.
So, that was the banana scent from L’Artisan. Admittedly, you don’t really smell a scent like this, one with a banana note, every day. I can hardly remember a scent where I perceived such an intense and distinct banana note, well, aside from the Demeter scent Banana Flambée, which is also very nice.
Anyway, with this scent, one is constantly indecisive. On one hand, the scent might smell really great to you. On the other hand, you wonder whether you really want to smell so intensely of bananas, which, despite its nice scent, is indeed an unusual scent note. You really have to think about this carefully and possibly test the scent several times, although the scent naturally becomes more perfumey over time, as it only has a rather light fruity touch towards the end and thus smells more of tonka and musk, which is also very nice. Only in the end, the sillage is quite weak.
Otherwise, I can imagine the scent as a kind of relaxation scent for oneself, when you simply have time for yourself, are at home, and apply this scent just for yourself. Well, as I said, you just have to test it to know what I mean. I find it somehow very delicious :D
Maybe also um… lickable… mu ha ha ha, this is also a term from the perfumer I met recently. Yes, yes, I say biteable, right? But she said “lickable” (though not in connection with this scent here, which she found quite terrible…). He he he, better hope that I don’t use this term in the future, as it sounds so “below the belt” :DD
Well, that’s it from me again. I wish you all a nice evening :)
