Sueño Hombre La Martina 2015 Eau de Toilette

... would mean Sueno Hombre in translated terms. Possibly also the sleeping man.
However, the fragrance has much more to offer than the name suggests, which I don't find particularly marketable - even if it may sound promising.

I find the sweet lemony note quite lively at the beginning, which, together with the subdued other fruits and the woody pine and cedar notes, brings out the freshness joker. This is further supported by a slightly sticky sea breeze note, which unfortunately leans more towards car air freshener and just barely touches the tolerance mode without crossing it.

The opening is thus quite fresh, green - almost life-affirming with a slight hint of synthetic. Therefore, our sleeper is partly refreshing but also has warm and bitter components as a counterbalance.

In principle, this is not mainstream and uninteresting at all, but Sueno falters shortly after the introduction. Moreover, there is a constant feeling that while it may be intense when sprayed, the power fades quite early.

The promised base notes come through only sparingly, and Sueno already falls into a kind of premature comfort zone.

What remains is the notion that Sueno has desirable approaches with its citrus fruit usage and woody needles, but still seems a bit underdeveloped. It is by no means a tired representative of its kind, even if it has neither real sleep nor lovemaking potential.

„La Martina“ - a brand that I have certainly been aware of in terms of clothing for quite some time. Although I usually pay little attention to subtle or even no labeling, which aligns more with my taste, I surprisingly like the shirts and vests from „La Martina“. About 5 years ago, I stumbled upon „Cuero“ and „Hombre“ at the Turkish shop - also due to the beautiful design of the bottles. The latter has since become a permanent guest in my collection. Thus, La Martina made it onto my fragrance radar, and I have been testing their new releases regularly since then, even though most tests so far have led to disappointment...

„Sueno Hombre“ was a blind purchase in the duty-free area of the airport in Madrid. I liked the bottle so much, and since I had no time to test it, I just grabbed it. When I got home, I immediately sprayed it on - I was curious to see which perfume La Martina had taken as inspiration this time. Whether it would be a rather good or bad copy and what unique ideas the scent would then refine in a La Martina-like manner. Unfortunately, the fragrance catalog from La Martina leads me to such skepticism, even though, for example, „Hombre“ or „Bayres“ have already produced some really good products.

Now finally to the scent itself. I perceive it as a very masculine fragrance, which is certainly noteworthy given the recent developments in the perfume market. In my humble opinion, the unisex factor of this perfume is at 0.
„Sueno Hombre“ starts citrus-fresh but becomes a bit harsher after about 10 minutes. Woods are added, including pine. I even smell needles, pine needles or cedar needles - it doesn’t really matter, but definitely needles. However, I wouldn’t describe the scent as green at this point. The citrus notes are still present but are no longer as dominant as at the beginning. The woods and needles join in, but they do not take over. Both are clearly perceptible but remain balanced. The scent becomes even more masculine with the onset of the heart note and stays that way throughout. After about 2, 2.5 hours, the citrus notes finally fade, and the oak moss then emphasizes the wood notes, giving it a slightly green nuance. The scent remains fresh but becomes a bit harsher and more masculine here. In my opinion, Sueno Hombre fits best in spring and late summer, as well as on very nice autumn days. I can’t imagine wearing it on really hot days, nor in winter.

Longevity: On my skin, just under 5-6 hours, on clothing about 1 hour longer.

Sillage: For the first two hours, it is well noticeable but not intrusive. After that, it becomes quieter, and after just under 3 hours, you have to get very close with your nose to still perceive the scent.

Bottle: Once again, a really beautiful piece from La Martina. A heavy, thick-walled, brown glass bottle with a heavy metal cap. The spray head is widely framed in leather, into which the La Martina logo is embedded on the front.

So is it again more show than substance? No! „Sueno Hombre“ is a solid perfume. When I feel like scents of this kind, I prefer to reach for Davidoff’s „Zino“ (okay, significantly spicier) or Joop’s „Nightflight“. I just can’t warm up to „Sueno Hombre“, and the projection is simply not loud enough for me. However, the appearance is, of course, top-notch and deserves 10 out of 10 points.

So now I dare to tackle this fragrance, which I have owned for a few months, and dedicate a comment to it.

In general, opinions on the scents from La Martina are quite divided, as they have often managed to successfully copy fragrances from successful brands, sometimes well, sometimes less so. However, I must also say that I find all the fragrances from this house very special. They may not appeal to everyone, but I don't think they are poorly made. Especially the men's fragrances are all very masculine, not for women, leaving out Pampamia. Moreover, they are not for the masses, which I find good and appreciate! It should stay that way!

But now to Sueno:

The bottle is by far my favorite among all La Martina fragrances!
If I had to describe it in two words, "high-quality" and "noble" would fit best. A heavy glass bottle made of transparent, brownish glass. I particularly like the light brown "saddled" leather with the embedded logo! It is real leather and smells like it! Wonderful! Nothing made of plastic, as is the case with the entire bottle. With the elaborately looking, hand-stitched seam made of white thread, attention has also been paid to details. It gives the bottle a completely different touch. One could think the leather is sewn to the glass! Classy! The heavy metallic cap, which has the name embedded in real leather on top, fits well with the rest of the bottle! The bottle also feels very good in the hand! I also think the spray head is great! Not cheap, and it releases just the right amount of mist!
I give the bottle an overall grade of 1.

Now to the scent:

It starts very citrusy-fruity! You don't perceive the apple much, but it is there, and it makes the lemon really juicy and fruity. You would want to bite into it! Definitely not a toilet block! After about a quarter of an hour, the citrus notes recede, and the conifers come to the forefront. However, the citrus notes are still there! It no longer smells citrusy but simply fresh and woody! But what does "simply" even mean? It smells really, really good! As if you were walking through the woods on a warm spring day after a short rain shower! Simply delightful! This phase of the scent is also my favorite part of this fragrance. After one to two hours, the citrus notes have completely disappeared, and it becomes woodier, and with the oak moss and patchouli, it also has a slightly mossy/herbal quality but above all, it becomes more robust and masculine! However, it still remains fresh! The unsweetened tonka bean makes the scent feel a bit warmer.
A sensually pleasant fragrance for spring and summer! It is definitely well-received in my surroundings!

The longevity is quite good for a fresh scent! It lasts about 6 - 8 hours on me. However, the sillage is more summery. In the first 2 hours, it is well noticeable, then it becomes increasingly close to the skin.

Conclusion: This fragrance is perfect if you want to experience something, if you want to go out and do something! Experience adventures! It lifts my mood, and I feel really comfortable with it! An absolute leisure fragrance with a great scent progression, in my opinion! I'm surprised it has remained so unnoticed until now. I can highly recommend it, and it is definitely worth a test!
