CARDAMOM STEALS THE SHOW
Santal Austral Extrait opens very wood and iris forward, like pencil shavings wrapped in dry sandalwood. It feels cool, austere, and slightly dusty at first. As it dries down, the sweet cardamom really takes over and the scent shifts into a warm, spicy composition, which makes the opening and drydown feel almost like two different perfumes. That’s the main difference compared to the original Santal Austral Eau de Parfum, which is much less spicy and not as cardamom heavy. In the extrait, the sandalwood often feels overshadowed, which is ironic for something with “santal” right in the name.

I like cardamom and I appreciate all the ingredients here, but I was not exactly wowed. For the price, it feels a bit simplistic, especially when there are better spicy sandalwood options on the market that offer more depth and character. Projection was fairly average on me, nothing dramatic, though it does last a long time. Also, despite the almond milk note, I would not call this a milky or creamy sandalwood at all. This is spicy, dry sandalwood. Overall, it’s nice, but it didn’t sweep me off my feet.

Last-forever woods
Really good, I debated between to test this one on my skin or Radical Rose and ended up going for this one and I am happy I made that decision.
It is powerful, decisively woody and spicy, not brusque at all but firm and stoic, as if to say 'I am here' without saying it altogether. It is a top notch woods, with a high price tag, that lasts at least 10 hours, a run, and a shower. I can see this on an older gentleman, but also a young artist who goes to brick walled coffee shops.

Beautiful Simplicity
Wow! - was my first reaction after I unsuspectingly applied the extrait.
Unsuspectingly, because I had no expectations for the scent. The order was dedicated to another fragrance, and this one simply sounded worth testing as well. Spontaneously then, unsuspectingly, except for being slightly influenced by the brief description on the website.
Two sprays on the forearm. There it was:
Cardamom spice, briefly sparkling with a creamy undertone.
After a short time, it remains creamy, with spice in the background.
After about an hour, I thought the scent had settled.
One more spray, because the opening is so stunning - and again: Wow!
Now to wait and see if anything else happens.
Creamy and woody, with a light spiciness, without edges or corners.
I like it very much. I keep wanting to bring my forearm to my nose.
It becomes noticeable that there is something else: I smell subtle incense.
Very fitting!
In the drydown, not much happens. The scent gains sweetness but does not change its facet. Sweet, creamy, smooth wood. The underlying incense lifts and holds all of it. It concludes without me feeling that something is missing. It stays with the familiar components. Unexciting, but without boredom. Like something beautiful that you want to look at again and again, even though you know it - because you know it. Here on an olfactory level.

All in all, a very beautiful fragrance. The beginning is wonderful. The profile is very well balanced and leaves me with a high-quality and sensual impression.

Opening is spicy - cardamom interacts with buttery iris. It has creamy and velvety density as it forms ambery and woody cluster.

It's a decent sandalwood iris with that Matiere Premiere base. If looking for a versatile fall/winter option this is nice but pricey.

Relative to EDP, it opens intensely fresh spicy & some of that shows in the drydown, but the base is the same boring sandalwood-iris scent.

It opens with cool, dusty iris and dry sandalwood, like pencil shavings, then dries down into a much warmer, sweet cardamom.

Brave to list exotic origins of the ingredients.
It all ends after a brief flare of sandalwood back with the blues.

The masculine version of the regular Santal Austral. For me, it's more robust, spicy but still slightly creamy. H/S Top! Beautiful scent!

Velvety, powdery soft. Lightly sweet and woody. Very elegant.
