"La Perla" is no longer the sensational chypre it used to be.

It seems to have lost its rich complexity, yet it is still based on the idea of an aromatic chypre. Its wooded notes of vetiver and moss are there, but there's also a sharp element I dislike.

Obviously, the fragrance is not blended from the old, high-quality ingredients. I guess it was inevitable that reformulation would NOT improve it. But most perfume houses get away with their "re-orchestrations".

I for my part will not repurchase.

Nice, elegant scent, but lacking depth on my skin

Today it arrived, the fragrance I have been waiting for days, which no perfumery nearby had in stock, and which I therefore had to order online without sniffing. It was recommended to me as a scent twin of my beloved Jil Sander Woman 3, and with joyful anticipation of smelling like I used to, I opened the bottle.
The top note is woody, elegant, a bit soapy - actually what I like on myself. However, the development on my skin is unfortunately rather shallow and inconspicuous. Woman 3, that was me. With La Perla, the kick that I need to make a perfume my perfume unfortunately does not come through.
Nevertheless, it is a quite pleasant, warm chypre, which reminds me more of Coco Noir than of Woman 3.

Addendum: I am now using it for a while and can slowly start to pick out components that do remind me after all. The sillage is still hardly noticeable, and this "Here I am" does not really happen. I also assume that this fragrance, like many others, has probably been "improved" at some point. But as I said, it is a very pleasant scent with a warm component, and perhaps I was a bit unfair at first, because it certainly deserves a chance.

I would have never guessed 2012! Chypre with everything that comes with it. Okay, no aldehydes, but coriander takes that role. Great!
