Just take my money
This year i finally got into Le Labo. Tried many of their scents, and realized that the hate on the brand is unwarranted. Sure, they are expensive, but the quality and longevity is here, the blending is here, the originality is also here, so i cannot complain.

Myrrhe 55 will always remind me of september of 2023. When i heard about the release back in august, i could not wait to try it out. For me, the hype is real on this one. And i have to say that it surprised me! For someone who is not that big on jasmine, this makes me like the note. This opens with a big solar jasmine, almost blinding me. It has a grape soda feel to it in the beginning, where the jasmine, musk, and green herbal patchouli join forces and last for about 3-4 hours. Then comes the licorice-like myrrhe, oud and some ambregris (most likely ambrox) in the mid-base, to darken the feel.

You can wear this any season, any reason. Its not too light, not too dark, its perfect. Smells very high class. Dressed up or dressed down, you choose it.

Performance on this is crazy good. 1 single spray from the sample lasts about 10 hours, even after shower. The projection/sillage is decent enough, it does not go overboard and annoy everyone around you.

Now its time to buy a ticket to Shanghai...damn you Le Labo

A fragrance journey
I enjoy this fragrance from the initial opening of bright, energetic jasmin to the late dry down of oud and everything in between. This works well with my body chemistry, and it lasts forever. I like it for a long day because it sets the tone - it begins with a bright, happy energy and ends with a close, warm oud. It's not a linear scent like some other Le Labos.

The one seemed to get a lot of hate from a lot of fragrance reviewers. Actually, Le Labo seems to get a lot of hate, period. But I still love it from beginning to end. Is too expensive? ENTIRELY. Is it worth what it costs to most people? Probably not. It is a guilty pleasure for me though.

More floral than myrrhic
It's been quite a few years since I traveled to Shanghai. At the time, it was the destination of a short tour of China, which I extended a little due to the Expo there.
In addition to the Expo and the exhibition buildings, the huge shopping temples and some culinary delights, what stuck with me back then were the extremely humid nights. And, of course, the magnetic levitation train, which, timed to the second, takes passengers the 30 km distance at up to 430 km/h in just over seven minutes. I've traveled on many different modes of transport, but none have been as smooth as this one. No wonder - there's no contact with the ground or anything else. You just float and that means there's no jerky take-off, landing or stuttery braking. You only feel a minimal (!) brief vibration in the middle of the ride, when the other track comes halfway towards you.

I don't really have any olfactory memories of Shanghai, but I found it extremely appealing to discover creations at the Le Labo counter at Breuninger in Düsseldorf that are otherwise only available exclusively in other cities. My choice for testing fell without much thought on Myrrhe 55, which is actually only available in Shanghai - an absolutely charming metropolis, as described above, where I won't be going any time soon.

Myrrh 55 starts just as gently as the Maglev Train (Magnetic Levitation Train), but is extremely floral and I initially suspected lily of the valley and feared a monothematic sequence without myrrh. As it turned out, the lily of the valley turned out to be jasmine, paired a few moments later with some musk and patchouli.
And if you wait carefully, the myrrh enters after a considerable delay. From then on, it also becomes a little more bitter and resinous and the jasmine is no longer so explicitly in focus.

However, I don't find the whole fragrance as long-lasting and projecting as one might think based on the rating. On the contrary, I find it rather restrained, as is usually the case with Chinese fragrances (without wanting to drift into prejudice). And the bottom line is that I miss the concentrated load of myrrh. I admit that it was only a single spray that wetted my forearm, but there are many more fragrances that radiate more intensely. Mind you: strong projection is not necessarily better and says nothing about the quality, but in my opinion more could happen here - especially in terms of myrrh.

I'm afraid I'm somehow not warming to the Le Labo brand, but I don't want to give up hope, because there's still so much to discover.

More floral than resinous, decent but a tough sell
Sampling the latest City Exclusive release from Le Labo, Myrrhe 55 (Shanghai), a mixed floral/fresh/resinous scent, notably more floral than resinous, a mix of myrrh, jasmine, patchouli, ambergris, oud, and musk. It’s not really animalic but there’s a vague dirtiness under the fresh floral forwardness, still coming off quite elegant. It’s a slightly interesting creation but markedly not that innovative or daring at the now-very-high City Exclusive pricing of $515/365/160 for 100/50/15ml, tough to stomach for something that one does not really love, though I think it’s certainly possible that this might be perfect for someone out there. To recap, the City Exclusives are only available in September each year (except for refills, which can be done year-round).

Too sweet for me, with a licorice bite that's cloying, off putting initially, but it dries down pretty lovely on others, sweet smoke.

a HUGE jasmine bomb, the myrrhe is there, but it comes later on, 3 hours after. High quality, more feminine, and very versatile.

Aldehydic jasmine chypre with a slight hint of powdery resins. Oud and ambergris are not detectable. Very feminine
