Here it is again.....
.....the wonderfully balsamic opulence of long-gone times.....
Rich, dense, and powerful, the song of this Balalaika resonates.......but unlike what the name and the association with Russia might suggest, this is not a heavy Oriental or even a thunderous chypre.......
Balalaika is rather a dreamily soft-silky floral, perfectly rounded off by noble woods, a subtly animalistic musk note, and a delicate hint of vanilla.....Vintage at its best....
Just like the noble donor, to whom I would like to express my heartfelt thanks at this point, I also perceive the violet as the dominant flower.....accompanied by a finely fruity mandarin, which, despite its opulence and depth, lends a certain juicy freshness to the fragrance.......Powdery notes - if present - I perceive only very faintly or not at all.....
Ultimately, it should be mentioned that Balalaika, despite its advanced age, does not feel "old-fashioned"......a house like Nobile 1942, for example, or even Bruno Acampora, could certainly and exactly bring this fragrance to market today.....
Side note: “Balalaika” evokes a similar mood in me as “Anonimo Veneziano”.....
