Mon Image? Mon Parfum! A complete image!
Most Lucien Lelong fragrances are no longer available today, except for a few that are - of course - offered in a "contemporary," meaning reformulated version. Unfortunately, Mon Image is not one of them. Unfortunately because this is a perfect fragrance, a signature scent and a floral chypre at that, even though I couldn't find a pyramid.
However, I was able to find an intact bottle of the original extrait and can now call it my own. I could hardly have dreamed that I would succeed in acquiring the original, but with a lot of patience and a long search on the WWW, I managed to do it. It is a heavy glass bottle with a glass cap and a separate glass stopper underneath (see photos below).
This extrait is one of the most beautiful perfumes I have ever encountered and from now on my absolute No. 1. Unlike the aldehydic opening of the EdT, of which I own a mini and which presents a bitter bergamot followed by a heart of a thousand flowers and green notes, the extrait opens with spices. It begins with a wonderfully naturally scented nutmeg, as if I had just grated it into a dish, aromatic cloves, and very fresh, wonderfully fragrant cinnamon. Alongside this is a fine, delicate honey scent that, mixed with the nutmeg and cinnamon, simply makes me melt away.
Although bergamot also comes through here, which lingers for quite a while, always accompanied by the initial spicy sweetness, it is not present from the very beginning as it is in the EdT.
Then, gradually, beautiful, soft floral essences flow into the sweet-spicy top note, which is simply taken over and blossoms into the flowers. There are definitely cloves and roses, jasmine, and surely some more that are not identifiable. Yet one flower smells more magnificent than the other, and still, Mon Image is one of the most elegant fragrances I can imagine. As in the EdT, green notes are also part of the fragrance here. Overall soft, with just enough sweetness to match the elegant overall appearance.
As expected, Mon Image has very good longevity and a - at least in the extrait - quite strong sillage, which provides just the right projection. This is not a fragrance for girls, but a fragrance for women who are fully aware of their appearance and impact.
What makes up the base, I cannot explicitly determine, but there is certainly amber and musk present, something woody and also mossy. This gives Mon Image a pleasantly dry, warm finish, while the cinnamon-nutmeg-honey top note still holds on.
Mon Image is a beautiful fragrance that enriches my collection in the truest sense of the word. I will treasure this extrait like a treasure, because that is what it is: a treasure. Something in the scent reminds me of my childhood... Maybe I'll figure out what it is. I am very happy about the acquisition of such a rare fragrance today.

For Christmas 2012, my husband gifted me the bronze miniatures from the Art Collection. They are simply wonderful!
