Lavender Magic Markers
Sometimes I wonder whether I'll ever finish sniffing my way through the house of Lush. And the answer is: No! Only yesterday I read that they are about to release twelve (count 'em, 12) new "perfumes". The scare quotes are entirely intentional.

With a lavender bath on the horizon, I decided to ferret through my box of Lush samples (they are kept in quarantine, all alone...) for something containing lavender. There it was in bold white on black: lavendula angustifolia, the SECOND ingredient listed (right after alcohol), on the label for Lush COCKTAIL.

So, yes, lavender looms large and loud--no surprise there. But far more remarkable to my nose are the strong magic marker facsimile fumes which emerge within a couple of minutes after applying this "perfume". Wow, this smells great--but only because I love the scent of magic markers. I was always a prime candidate for toxic fume addiction--from glue, markers, aerosol cans, gasoline nozzles, or whatever--but fortunately I was protected by my limited access to such things.

Here the moment of magic marker sniffing has been captured in a vial for me by Simon, as if by design, knowing as he must by now how I feel about him, the no-holds-barred mixed essential oil man.

Thank you, Simon!

Powdery floral cloud (of doom)
I love trying Lush perfumes because of the variety and creativity in some of them. Sadly, Cocktail is one I could've easily lived without trying.

I will preface this with the admission that I do get hayfever but this typically isn't something triggered by essential oils or perfumes: it's more due to au naturel plants/trees. BUT as soon as I sprayed this ylang-ylang bomb on myself, my nose was running and eyes watering! This lasted for hours and I felt like absolute crap.

The initial explosion/heavy cloud of powdery florals is straight up disgusting. It's so heavy. Again, I also think I am adverse to ylang-ylang so I may just be stupid trying this perfume. The strength of the florals give me quite a 90s vibe in a bad way (I feel like it's something I would've smelt on teachers I perceived as old as a child). It's just a massive, terrible mix of florals that is quite suffocating.

The drydown (after an hour or so) is marginally better. It's still a heady floral but with SOMETHING else behind the floral. I don't know what it is - maybe the bergamot? It's a crisper smell lurking behind the floral mess but it still overall feels as if it shoving itself down my throat and threatening to choke me and poke my eyeballs out.

It also lasts and lasts and lasts and lasts and lasts... Torture!

(This review was for the 10ml spray so ymmv as I reckon the smaller giftset sprays are a little different?)

If I Were Holly Golightly…
… I would have breakfast at Tiffany's every day. Well, every other day. Otherwise, after a while, the super chic black sheath dress by Givenchy would pinch at my hips. Gloves, tiara, and pearl necklace are indeed a statement in themselves, but they look a bit out of place with baggy sweatpants.

… I would finally give my cat a name: Ylang. It may sound a bit feminine, but who cares. After all, I am Holly!

… I would deliver weather reports without any criminal energy. Instead, I would amplify the longing for freedom that carries the recipient through the iron bars on imaginary wings to shady trees. Listening to the bird concert and enjoying the sun rays.
A little pinch of naivety doesn’t hurt the messenger, as long as no soul is harmed in the process.

… I would fall head over heels for Paul. Or Fred. Or both. Oh right, it’s the same person. Fred is the four letters that describe their emotional connection to the brother. No, that’s strange - I would call the man by his name, with a whispered “Poooohl”.
However, a commitment issue rarely leads to a happy ending. Perhaps the neighbor Mr. Yunioshi would be happy to help in the search for a suitable therapist? I mean, who can say no to those beautiful doe eyes?

… I would keep the loud party life with eccentric guests just as it is. But don’t worry, none of the invited guests would shine brighter than the hostess in her stunning dress.
Even the mess in her apartment somehow seems elegant. It is benevolently attributed to her traits as an “independent creative free spirit.” Just the satin sleep mask is an outfit in itself.

I can’t think of anything that could diminish her shimmering allure. But one thing would multiply it:

If I were Holly Golightly,

… I would wear "Cocktail (Perfume) | Lush / Cosmetics To Go"!

Moonriver! What an interesting scent.
Ylang-ylang, the main actor, drowns out every timid strum of the roses with her energetic trumpet playing. I can’t hear lavender at all. Bergamot gently sways along. Jasmine doesn’t dare to sing louder into the microphone. Sometimes her voice sounds sweet, sometimes holding a note briefly, sometimes a bit muted. Like a carousel riding waves. Woods persistently set the right rhythm in the background, allowing Holly to dance until
dawn.

This music cocktail feels mysterious.
Considering the fear of commitment - it doesn’t last forever, gently dissolving from the embrace on the skin after 7-8 hours. It doesn’t cling, but is there when needed for closeness. Maybe not every day, but always when the desire for the tiara arises on an ordinary Wednesday morning.

Sparkling but not intrusive.
Sexy, slim, moving elegantly like a black cat on her high heels.
Creating distance with her tinted sunglasses. But wait until she takes them off… one look and she captivates you. A closeness that can only be endured for a short time. A warm-cold play of colors and temperature. A velvet fabric, shimmering and changing. And just when you think you can grasp it, the light shifts and only empty melancholy remains. Like a fairy, whose dust breaks into a thousand sunbeams, made of the finest diamonds, breathtakingly beautiful. The eyes follow her path, sensing where the journey goes, only to be surprised by darkness at the last moment. Holly would appear even more magical, more playful, and unconventional as she seductively smiles at you over her cocktail glass…
There - did you see her wink for a millisecond?

One and (almost) Only
My love for perfume began with Cocktail. I had scored a few secondhand clothing items, and the seller had included some fragrance samples in the package. Among them was a sadly empty vial of Cocktail. I smelled the bottle and couldn't get my nose away from it. Cocktail is extravagant, yet still wearable. It is warm without being heavy. Fruity, without being particularly sweet, and spicy, without smelling bitter or woody. Cocktail wraps me in a warm blanket that smells like home. Cocktail stands out without being intrusive, never coming across as "too much" or "overdressed." The scent simply fits and complements me, and to this day, I can't get enough of it. Through this fragrance, I realized for the first time what perfume can do.
I wear it most days, only interrupted by a few other scents that I love just as much, or by excessive testing sprees.
Cocktail has a long-lasting presence on me and a pleasant sillage. It’s a fragrance that I have often been complimented on.

Woody warm, sweet, and deep scent
I really like the Cocktail perfume. For me, it is one of the most extravagant and complex perfumes. Still, it is classically styled in a way.

Woods and flowers blend beautifully here.

However, I only use it in autumn and winter - in the evening. It simply suits this time of year. A very feminine and mystical, sexy scent.

I still have the "old" version in the cut glass spray bottle from Be Never too busy to be Beautiful - beautiful.

This is so interesting it's floral with a sparkly silvery sheen to it, at times it feels almost like soda infused with flowers

This is really not my thing. A lush floral bouquet with a strong jasmine emphasis at the start. Over time, ylang and sandalwood take over.

This colorful, floral, fruity, spicy cocktail tastes strong and good, then becomes lovely (Ylang) and sleek.

Vintage was my first thought
But it quickly turned into a minty fresh toothpaste smell, paired with a leather note
Confusing??

Definitely not boring, a lush-overflowing, dark-colorful, sensually cheerful flower-fruit bomb.

Unfortunately, it's not the same scent anymore, but layered with "American Cream," it's still a dream. It feels more robust, less mild and sweet to me.

Fruity, floral, sweet, and very long-lasting. Still relatively expensive and with synthetic notes (plastic). Similar ones are available for less.
