Not as good as other Goddess scented products
I have tried some of the Goddess scented products at Lush, like the soap and the limited Posh shampoo bar. The latter was terrible for my hair, but I always loved the scent, so I thought the perfume would be a no-brainer for me. Unfortunately that's not the case.

The opening is extremely funky, way too dirty for my taste, bordering barnyard oud with a mentholated undertone. I never got anything like that from the soap or shampoo, so I was shocked.

Then it gets a little better with a sauna-like woodsiness and osmanthus in the heart phase. At this point the dirtiness has mostly vanished and the scent reminds me more of a spa than a barnyard. This is also the phase where it has the most noticeable Lush DNA, even though it's generally not a typical Lush perfume in my opinion.

My favorite part is the drydown, where jasmine, apricot-like osmanthus and a hint of rose form an opulent floral bouquet and the oud finally warms up. It's not a sharp or medicinal oud, it's warm and kinda bodily, but the funk of the opening has vanished. Everything smells deep, mysterious and has a bit of a witchy vibe.

The end phase is beautiful. I wish there was a high-end version of this without the rough start.

This was discontinued a couple years ago and was then reissued as a black label perfume for a much higher price. I tried the old, affordable version - not sure if it makes a difference.

She’s a demon, she’s a venus, she’s a real tiger, she’s a goddess...

When I first smelled this perfume in its full, resinous darkness, I found myself in the cold November in downtown Hanover, filled with anticipation for a weekend with my best friend. As soon as I stepped off the train, the color of the sky had transformed from a sleepy, never-ending winter gray to a foggy, furious black, and before I knew it, it was pouring rain. I stood in my far too thin black wool coat on the train station square, holding a steaming cardboard box of Chinese noodles in both hands, watching the grayish crowd desperately trying to escape the strings of pearls that were angrily falling on the colorful umbrellas and the heads beneath them. An army of fine needles, resolutely determined to flood the world to its foundations with water!

My hair stuck to my head like a helmet, and I still remember how glad I was that I hadn’t put on any makeup that day. Laziness and vanity - in doubt, one can be a virtue, the other a burden.

My best friend hadn’t returned from work yet, and since the main train station in Hanover isn’t exactly the most pleasant place to indulge in the anticipation of a cozy girls’ weekend, I decided to explore downtown. The air was steaming with frozen ozone, my hands felt numb, my eyes shimmered like wet glass, staring back at me from the shop windows as if they were drifting beneath a lake of ice.

And there it was - the LUSH shop!

Warm, soft light, muted by the greedy rain mist, welcomed me, just like the wave of perfume that hit me as I bravely tried to hold on until I reached the shelf with the little golden bottles.

My fingertips were already gliding over my fragrance favorites, "Lust" and "Vanillary" - but then I saw a new perfume with the promising name "Goddess," printed in golden and pompously pleading letters on the simple perfume bottle.

I immediately thought of a song I loved to listen to during the hot and sweaty summer, which reminded me of the Nevada desert on this rainy day.

"She’s a demon, she’s a venus, she’s a real tiger, she’s a goddess..."

I had to spray it immediately, this golden elixir, expecting a lavish siren scent and was...overwhelmed. Overwhelmed by the dusty, piercing cloud of alcohol that enveloped me and made me feel like I had fallen into a whiskey barrel. Hurt by my own expectations, I immediately wrinkled my nose and indignantly put it back on the shelf; does a goddess smell like this? Does a goddess smell as if she has fallen into a barrel full of ether? Are we in the laboratory of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille?

But then, as if the beautiful "Goddess" sensed how much I was rejecting her, she began to unfold on my wool coat. An extremely resinous, majestic smoke rose to my nose, accompanied by a modest concubine of jasmine on one side and a somewhat fierier lady of sandalwood on the other. This "Goddess" - who was she? Was she the demon, a Venus, a true tiger, hungry and on the hunt?

I felt transported to the desert, but this time in a hotter and more intense one than Nevada, and in it stood...a majestic palace adorned with violet-colored jewels, splendid, shimmering in the sun, without any reserved elegance. This was not the oriental realm of a queen or a normal princess; this was the temple of a celestial siren, a beautiful, mysterious concubine who wore nothing on her body except her jewels and the violet, transparent veil in which she wrapped her body, resembling a goddess. She is dangerous, seductive, yet in a dirty, daring way, and in her dark eyes reflect the demons that plead for their lives at the sight of her.

Oh, what this lady of violet darkness is not...she is a Venus, a demon, a true tiger, a predator, a goddess...

The scent accompanied me throughout the entire rainy weekend, incense-like and enveloped like a second skin. It accompanied me on the long forest walk we took, and in the bare landscape, the smoky mist merged with the scent of cold pine needles...and made me think of the goddess who roamed the forests in winter darkness, searching for abysses, the hidden, for secrets that she could devour and tear apart...

Like a true tiger.

Goddess - but which one?
Goddesses are as numerous as grains of sand on the beach,
every culture, every era, every religion has one or more of them.
Nowadays, one can earn the "title" of goddess quite quickly; a "social media goddess"
is not particularly complex, just being a bit creepy usually suffices (see Kardashian,
Hilton, ...)
In the glorious years of "Good old Hollywood," it took a special presence on screen to be called a goddess (Liz Taylor, Rita Hayworth, Marilyn Monroe...)
Before the Christianization of the West, there was an abundance of goddesses; almost every village had its own, which eventually transformed into the Virgin Mary.
But before that, in the will of the goddess, what goddesses were there: Venus, Hera, Isis, Gaia, Medusa, Freya,
Maya, Shakti, Kuan Yin, Erzulie ...
there were goddesses for love, for marriage (interesting that those for love and marriage were not the same ;-) )
motherhood, eroticism, money, household, blessings of children, health, wealth, etc...
and they all smelled the same???
All alike? Please, certainly not! And then what?
Who is this goddess now? Or what defines a goddess?
Well, a goddess is undoubtedly female, but this scent is definitely not; any man can wear it, okay, we won't get any further with this approach ...
The ingredients don't bring us any closer either: oud, sandalwood, jasmine, rose, osmanthus,
wonderful components - but do they equal goddesses?
Most goddess legends on this earth deal with the creation of life or the creation of a culture, the creation of a life plan.
In the beginning was ...
...and that's exactly where this scent picks me up, at the beginning!
At the beginning, immediately after the drop touches my skin, it gives me a sting,
almost a kick, not painful but encouragingly demanding, like the slap on the bottom of a newborn: GO NOW! BREATHE! FINALLY START!
This is the archaic oud that takes your breath away at first, but not unpleasantly, rather like holding your breath in special moments in life because it is so uncultivated, so primal ...
and a moment later, jasmine arrives, soft and motherly, it presses me to itself and says: Shh, everything is fine, you did well, keep going...
and then the roses bloom, the color, life in all its splendor, the abundance and richness of osmanthus pours into the form you have chosen to be, and the sandalwood elevates the created work, crowns it with almost sacred grace, makes it holy!
Yes, this is how I can recognize the goddess in this scent - in you - in me - in the man - in the woman
in every being. You are what you create - the creator of your life!
So be it!

Goddess is intense and lush; on my skin, I can still smell it after 8-10 hours;
the bottle is typically lush, angular, practical, good
what's the use of beauty, it’s the content that matters, vegan, cruelty-free,
except for the alcohol, a natural perfume
definitely worth a try; with the same scent, there are soap, bath bombs, washing cards,
also available as solid perfume.

Spicy-resinous-woody, sweet
I detect some menthol
Dark, rich, unisex wearable
The scent could be floating around on Walpurgis Night.

Initially a lot of sandalwood & subtle animalistic oud. Osmanthus appears very late and adds a bit of freshness. In the background, very subtle flowers.

I even like Oud. Experimental and menthol-like with the beloved LUSH DNA. Still, more of a tame Lushie.

Interesting rose-oud-sandalwood scent. Not your typical fragrance. But unfortunately, after an hour, it's only close to the skin.
