Seelenfrieden to spray.
Mauna. Sounds good. There’s a phonetic softness to it, something round, harmonious, and pleasing.
But we don’t want to be guided by subjective vagueness, but rather by highly empirical facts. Here you go: Mauna originates from Hindu philosophy and refers to a vow of silence that is meant to guide the silent one on the long and arduous path to inner peace and ultimately lead to soul tranquility.
Since I imagine absolute soul tranquility as gentle, round, harmonious, and pleasing, I am a bit surprised at how vividly the onomatopoeia conveys the relationship between the signifier and the signified here.
Perhaps my associative coincidence is simply due to the fact that I had already sprayed a tiny droplet of the fragrance on my wrist while contemplating the effect of the name. Because Mauna affects me just like that: gentle, round, harmonious, pleasing.
A soft, contemplative scent with a beautiful sandalwood soul. A calming and grounding fragrance. A rather quiet scent that invites you to explore its facets in peace and with the necessary mindfulness. A fragrance that, through its warm woody aura, feels approachable yet constantly oscillates between closeness and distance. However, these notes are merely charming supporting actors that highlight the sandalwood, which undeniably stands at the center of the fragrance, so excellently that I would say I have rarely smelled anything more beautiful.
Sandalwood is often interpreted in a brutal manner and can quickly come off as chipboard-like. And I mean the cheaper chipboards from the Far East. The ones where they don’t take the formaldehyde limits too seriously.
With Mauna, you can be completely unconcerned in this regard. Brutal synthetics are foreign to this fragrance. It feels more like an unknown part of me that is daring to surface today. Nice to have you here.
When would I wear it? Always. And where? Everywhere. And can Aunt Hilde wear it too? Of course. Even Uncle Jürgen.
And does it perform really well in beast mode? No. Thankfully not.
