Pure "Mercedes" Class
I bought this perfume at the Mercedes store in Bremen when I picked up my uncle's new car. This perfume will always remind me of that moment. I found it quite funny when this perfume appeared as a "spare part" on the receipt :D

Where should we start? In my opinion, it smells like a good old autumn moment that you like to reminisce about. It's like an exclusive ride in a fancy Benz, radiating pure elegance. It smells very fresh, but the spicy/woody notes linger more in my nose. It's not the POWER perfume that has a strong sillage; rather, it's more "undercover."

The perfume is perfect for those who want a touch of light Mercedes luxury in their everyday life. A scent for every day that is best suited for the evening :)

Apple Bottle
A few nice ideas so far & unexpectedly little uniformity, plus very few truly negative outliers - these were enough arguments to take a closer look at Pure Woody (ridiculous name, in multiple ways) from the new VIP Club collection. I should have left it alone, as this scent is by far the most generic of the series & can easily be forgotten/overlooked. It embodies everything one might have in terms of negative prejudices, fears & associations against such a suddenly emerging basketball team of Mercedes fragrances.

The scent is synthetic, scratchy, and uninspired. Absolute mainstream junk that you want to forget immediately. A dime-a-dozen fragrance trying to step into the oversized footprints of Boss Bottled, mixing in a bit of Eros but unable to hold a candle to either. The opening is at 007 fragrance level, reminding one of that horror with a hypochondriac-chemical apple - which should already be more than a coffin nail for this creation. But at least the shining apple stands out & remains, albeit rarely positively, in memory. The subsequent rest is not worth embellished sentences & metaphors, but only an annoyed-depressive yawn. I've already forgotten it; I believe it was most like a warming amber mush... but it's not exactly decipherable. Like childbirth pains: mostly forgotten quickly. Just unfortunately without a baby.

Bottle: no, not for me
Sillage: office variety & even less
Longevity: 3-5 hours are rare

Conclusion: a mix of Boss Bottled & the 007 fragrances - resulting in a generic apple shampoo perfume that lacks any shine & is simply disappointing.

Part 2: The Best or Nothing - Benz Goes Drugstore
Well-informed perfume lovers have known for a long time: for a few years now, Mercedes-Benz has also been among the car manufacturers trying to establish themselves in the perfume market with a more or less unique scent. After all, the brand with the star and moon prices cannot afford to fall behind Bentley, Bugatti, Ferrari, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Maserati, Porsche, and now even Volkswagen.
In 2012, Mercedes-Benz for Men was released, followed by 12 more fragrances to date, including three for women.
There are a total of five men’s fragrances in the exclusive VIP Club line. The Swabians (or was it a licensee?) apparently invested a lot of money and hired a well-known perfumer for each individual Eau de Toilette. So far, I haven't seen any of them in retail; even at the huge Mercedes-Benz dealership in Düsseldorf, there were no displays (and the MB homepage doesn’t provide any information either). At least some online perfumeries have the VIP Club fragrances in their offerings. However, sampling them might be a bit tricky - but fortunately, there are reviews!

After already testing the purple Addictive Oriental from the line, it’s now time for Pure Woody in the neat petroleum-colored bottle. The perfumer here is Harry Frémont. While he may not be the most famous in his field, he has celebrated significant successes with fragrances like CK One for Calvin Klein, Very Valentino for Men, Tuscan Leather for Tom Ford, or Polo Sport for Ralph Lauren. To date, 122 creations are credited to him. Diligent, diligent - but in my opinion, he could have exercised more care with Pure Woody.

The scent kicks off sportily with a fresh spiciness, although the apple notes dominate a bit too much for my taste. The promised ginger unfortunately takes a back seat. I had feared this, as fragrances with apple on the ingredient list are usually not my thing; they tend to smell too generic or cheap, reminiscent of shower gels from the drugstore.

A little later, Pure Woody drifts more towards the sweet side, partly with some warm spicy notes that give it more substance. I like this much better, but somehow a sweaty component, possibly reminiscent of cumin, has crept in. As a result, the Eau de Toilette comes off a bit harsher and more mature, but also somewhat uneven.

Towards the end, it becomes agreeably soft with amber notes or whatever, but one wonders how it came to be called Woody. No, there’s nothing woody about it at all. Even in the pyramid, it’s not even hinted at. Nevertheless, one gets the impression that instead of a Mercedes Benz, one has been presented with an aging Opel Astra in the base version scent-wise.

Yes, spicy fresh may apply to Pure Woody - but many fragrances from the drugstore can do that just as well, only at a significantly lower price (and they might even offer more longevity and projection with a similar synthetic composition). Those who expect more from a Mercedes star than possibly five Parfumo stars might find this appealing. Rational people should probably not take Pure Woody seriously!

Scent = good
Product placement = bad
Instead of wood, a fresh-fruity mix
You can't go wrong with this, but you won't go right either!

He doesn't deserve so much hate. It’s very well received by non-perfumistas. Longevity and sillage are totally fine. A good mainstreamer!

Like something from the clearance rack! Everything thrown in a pot... stir it up and off it goes so no one notices.

If a scent tries to please everyone, it probably ends up pleasing no one... Synthetic fruit on a shower gel base. Top 10 of unnecessary fragrances.

VIP Club - Pure Woody - that sounds exclusive and very woody. In reality, it feels like a basic shower gel. Not convincing!
