The Saga of the Metals, Part Two: The Copper

It is a bit like Star Wars. The order of the metals is a bit messy, because I have decided to review them starting with the least liked by me. Therefore Copper is part two of the Saga, but should have been part one. Never mind… I like Montana’s Copper a lot.
A huge Plum experience is waiting here. Sweet, juicy plum with Pineapple as a cheering sidekick. Yes, there are other notes in this, but Plum steals the show. It is the Diva, the Prima Ballerina in EC. Staying true to the trilogy metaphor you could say that Plum is the main character in this.
There are moments when this fragrance is more like a dessert than a fragrance. Somewhere down the road it calms down and becomes a bit more watery which is nice, but it also becomes a bit shy or pale. I also like the detail, that all three metals have a true colour, meaning that Copper really has a real copper colour, just as Gold and Silver have.
Gérard Anthony is the nose behind this. He is also the nose behind Samsara EdP, a true favourite of mine. He has done well with Copper.

Copper-top oriental

An oriental with a rich fruity chord of plum, peach and raspberry. If that doesn't sound too interesting, it's offset by a crunchy-sharp note (with a suggestion of copper - as the name implies). This helps it rise above a rather brainless style - and a certain 'cheapniss' - to become slightly better than yer average soft-woody gourmand.

Hard to believe, but true: A L' heure bleue clone!

I can hardly believe I get to experience this: a discontinued fragrance that I missed...and that blows me away!
Why, oh why, did I never give it a sniff?
Big huge mistake!
In fact, today while searching for another fragrance, I stumbled upon the Montana Trilogy, from which it originates. Without much thought or high expectations, I sprayed the copper scent, suspecting it might have gone bad.
I continued with my day and almost forgot that I actually wanted to at least smell it before I discarded it.
But then!
After about 30 minutes, I became suspicious. And after pausing once or twice, something felt very familiar...I smelled a very close relative of L'heure bleue.
Don't believe me? Try it for yourself. (Sneaky, right?)
I detected this gifted fruity wood note with a slight oriental spice, lipstick-like, mild sweetness, and peachy softness, just like only a vintage LHB can have. Well, not quite. Eau Cuivrée can do it too.
It's not quite as strong and does become a bit duller/soapy towards the end, but at times it is a damn poem.
What a shame.

A Proposal for Reconciliation

I received a sample of "Suggestion Eau Cuiveé" from the lovely RosedeResht - first of all, thank you, you have given me an extraordinary fragrance experience!

The opening is, in my opinion, truly terrible - extremely medicinal, underpinned by a rather intense clove scent. Very, very soon, it somehow becomes chypre, which suddenly shifts the overall scent perception to something pleasant. This transition happens quite abruptly for my taste. One can be glad not to have dismissed it right after the opening act.
The scent is old school, a representative of its time, but overall, it's not a standout. It is somewhat woody-warm, definitely a softer type of chypre. One could say it’s a conciliatory chypre. Not sweet without being bitter, the most prominent notes for me are tuberose and orchid. I can't really say what orchid smells like, but I draw a comparison to Bronnley's "Orchid" or perhaps "Black Orchid," and I must say that all these orchid-containing fragrances share a slightly numbing and strong unsweet floral note, which, in my opinion, also accompanies "Suggestion."
The dry down then becomes slightly ambery-woody. Everything really comes together harmoniously, and apart from the truly dreadful beginning for me, it is a lovely scent, also suitable for those who are not so fond of the "chypre" category. It’s also a fine fragrance for men, as it lacks any sweetness.
