Needle-like younger cousin of Parfum d'Homme
Indeed, it was not necessarily the smartest idea of the marketing strategists to launch a successor to the 1989 "Parfum d'Homme" in the same bottle (except for the color) with almost the same name, as the differences are quite significant.

While "Parfum d'Homme" is already olfactorily slightly overloaded, yet still coherent and indulging in the finest 80s scent overload, "Montana pour Homme" (which, to make matters worse, is also referred to as "Montana Homme" on the packaging of my OF) clearly takes the extremely herbal route. Not quite as extreme and "old-fashioned" as P. Silvestre, but still somewhat retro, perhaps leaning towards Carlo Corinto without sweetness.

And here we are at the point: VERY dry, VERY herbal, VERY green, any kind of sweetness is sought in vain here. This was, of course, designed in 2001 without any regard for the zeitgeist and is anything but innovative. Nevertheless, the scent is pleasing; it is honest, natural, and without exaggerated attitude. Relatively easy and inexpensive to acquire, it is still a good option. Sometimes that just has to be enough...

Tony Montana's Witless Bubble Bath
You really don't see this scent often in regular perfumeries. All the more wonderful that I caught it today in the great perfumery Müller in Wuppertal. However, the big hit was missing. The scent reminds me of 90s classics like Roma Uomo or Minotaur, only almost completely without sweetness and spicier instead. Montana PH does not feel like a fragrance from 2001 at all, and the scent chaos surrounding this Montana men's fragrance mountain speaks for itself. I am quite sure that my test sample was this one.

The scent starts bitter-citrusy. Like a clean bubble bath with lots of bubbles, but without a really strong smell. A bit of spice, a bit of wood. Iris and geranium further dry out the scent. A bath, just made of foam, from which you step out completely dry in the end. And without much memory, because the scent is also quite quickly forgotten for me. In the musky mountain, the scent fades out, and even in the dry down, the scent remains humorlessly dry and unsweet. For people who, for example, actually like Nikos Sculpture, but always found it too sweet. For me, however, the sweetness in the mentioned comparable scents was always the great part.

The bottle is so ugly that it's almost beautiful again. Definitely eye-catching. Longevity for me on a hot late summer day is moderate, about 6 hours. Sillage is foamy soft and quite mild and not overpowering. It could very well be that the evil reformulators were at work here ;-)

A strange, dry bubble bath gem that is rare but that no one really misses. No wonder that the women's fragrances from Montana are quite a bit more famous!

I'm sorry!
Quick revision following the friendly hints from Profumo (Thank you!):

Apparently, I overlooked the *real* Montana Parfum d`homme here on parfumo...
I apologize for that!
As a newcomer, I let that slip by.
However, it seems that the 2001 version (by now?) is being marketed under the name Montana pour homme,
but the bottles of the "new version" that I have
are still labeled `Montana Parfum d`Homme`.
Only the color of the bottles has slightly changed.
Now to the original text, which I will edit based on the new information
as soon as I find the time.
I admit:

I have a fatal tendency to be drawn to fragrances that polarize
and are far from being "everybody's darling."
Accordingly, you make friends or enemies,
who either find you pleasant or not at all.
With Montana Parfum d`Homme, I have always been indifferent....

I definitely bought my first bottle of Montana Parfum d`Homme before 2001,
back in the 80s. I was actually addicted to the unaffordable creations
from Montana, and I was endlessly happy when I could buy a sweater
or a belt.
But my absolute highlight was my black cashmere coat, asymmetrically cut,
so that the wearer could determine how the shawl collar would fold,
whether it should look more like a cape or like a coat.
With every movement, a different picture emerged.
The design of the bottles from the 80s was therefore a consistent implementation of the fashion
as created by Claude Montana.

Now finally to the scent, which malicious people have also dubbed mustard gas of the 80s.
:-)

In my nose, it is a real spice bomb, and with a rather bold cinnamon note!
(I find that very confusing, as cinnamon is nowhere to be found in the scent notes!?)
The cinnamon is embedded in a woody chypre with a distinct pine note,
which I can only explain with the presence of cedarwood. (...there must be something else!)
There is also a slight sweetness that acts modestly and demurely, almost unnoticed in the background.
The floral and fruity components do not take center stage;
they only provide the necessary support and background for the spice and wood notes - alongside the oakmoss and amber -
so that the whole thing does not drift towards Christmas bakery or spruce foot bath.

So far, so good... esteemed reader!
Now the confusions really begin.
Perhaps someone can help me here?

I have occasionally bought Claude Montana Parfum d`Homme besides the scent I described above from the 80s.
Among them, there are 2 bottles, where the frosted glass bottle tends more towards gray than brown.
One has the label on the glass bottom saying Eau de Toilette Light;
the other simply says Eau de Toilette.
But in both, there is a brew
that has nothing to do with the original scent!!!

My impression:
it is a sweet, slightly bland citrus slush that emerges
as soon as the nasty alcohol note, which becomes noticeable immediately after spraying and stings the nose,
finally disappears.
Then there is some floral and herbal something with a slightly dry note
(if that is supposed to be geranium and iris, that is more than regrettable),
which fades away into insignificance in the drydown without a sound.
Yuck!

Did the scent possibly come out in a new formulation in 2001?
With the turbulent history of the couture label Montana, including a grand bankruptcy,
it would not be surprising if the sale of marketing rights led to such shabby stuff being sold instead of one of my favorite scents from days gone by in the familiar bottles...

The Masculine Forest Walk
In the mid-80s/early 90s, it already existed. I really don’t know why the year of creation is listed as 2001?!
anyway..
Montana pour homme needs a masculine wearer!
Not a little beach boy, with an Ed-Hardy imitation shirt and bi-color hair dye!
Montana has a distinctive scent.....herbaceous....the cedar is easily detectable..
And it reminds me of a hardcore version of Pino Silvestre ;)
So....used sparingly, it delights the owner all day long...
..overused, the entire environment falls into a fir frenzy!
A great fragrance that has nothing metrosexual about it....not a single sweet note can be detected....
In my opinion, one of the most masculine scents ever!
So: Out with the trendy labels..and into the flannel shirt and a few ladies will be pleased! ;) ;)

It kicks off as sour as the bitter orange and the poisoning absinth, all blended with powdery iris and dries to a clean, soapy, musky scent.

The mix of citrus, woody, and green-spicy notes is pleasant, but also a bit bland and a tad too clean....

Almost too nice and friendly for the brand. Fresh, citrusy at first, a bit floral, a bit green, and a washed, creamy base.

Smells a lot like shower gel or deodorant, which feels a bit cheap, but still remains aromatic-masculine and boosts confidence.

Herb-spicy unsweetened scent is good, but here it feels one-dimensional and flat over time. Still an option.

A chill green scent with interesting notes. Fresh, herbal, woody, spicy, and earthy. Perfect for NOW, a summer refresher, great!
