Hype-worthy ?!
When I first wore Starwalker for a day in the office, I just thought: Damned, is he good ... and not only hit- but hype-worthy! So I immediately had to think of Aqva Amara, which smells completely different, but still has something in common with this Montblanc: it was supposed to be discontinued until the Bvlgari was so hyped this year that it made an unexpected comeback. And while the Starwalker is just as much a discontinued model, I felt: this exceptionally good fragrance should be just as hyped, so that it too continues to be produced. Because to take him out of the program would truly be a sin!
Right at the beginning, Starwalker scores with a fresh, bright fruit start, an invigorating mixture of the top notes bergamot and tangerine. However, it is not too citrusy, as one might assume, but as it were bright, soft, and somewhat sweetish, which is essentially due to the tangerine - very pleasantly light, friendly, sympathetic. I liked this fragrance from the first second, but it gets even better ...
About the first three quarters of an hour does not do much and you just enjoy the beautiful mood, which creates this Montblanc. Then, however, increasingly assert themselves the heart notes, which form a - albeit very subtle - counterpoint to the initial fruit sweetness: Ginger and nutmeg (perhaps also the fir resin) make it a touch spicier and thus more transparent, more differentiated. There is more going on in the fragrance, which is now increasingly stimulating and vitalizing, but remains brightly fruity. Simply a round thing. Since nothing drifts off in any unwanted direction, but he "matures", wins to it - class made!
But then, after about 1.5 hours, this star walker becomes a star climber by playing his true trump card: The wood! Because on his journey now come the sandalwood as well as the cedar, and give him increasingly presence, which after another half hour by the cedar even becomes a little spiky and creaky, although it always remains embedded in the soft-creamy sandalwood - a very attractive team.
Thus Montblanc's Starwalker develops in the drydown ever woodier, more expressive, more contoured. But the fine freshness remains to him always, because the top notes never disappear with about 30-40% fragrance share. This final melange, the mix of a clear, light-dry woody base and the fruity freshness of the top notes lasts with 6-7 hours unexpectedly long (on a shirt), with a clearly perceptible sillage - at half arm's length.
At the same time, to my mind, this fragrance is neither particularly green nor metallic, nor does it smell like "almost only tangerine", as other reviews say. Sure, Starwalker is fruity and initially goes quite a bit in the direction of Versaces Man Eau Fraîche, but max. 40-50% of its citrusy freshness. Because the top notes of Starwalker do not make up its dominance, but over almost 2/3 of the fragrance course the wood. In the first place, it is namely a sweet woody fragrance with (citrus) fruity superstructure.
So Starwalker is a bull's eye, which will certainly accompany me for a long time, also because it is a good all-rounder. Best suited in spring and autumn, especially during the day in the office and leisure. Because for me, the woody freshness of this wonderful fragrance is simply
