A real Legend in the making.
The Montblanc 'Legend' fragrance line is surely one of the most consistently solid lines in the designer scent market. So far my preference has been for Legend spirit (LS) over the Legend original (LO), mainly because I'm a lover of fresh scents, particularly at this time of the year. That said after scoring samples in a store for both LS and LO it wasn't such an easy choice at first but the fantastic white freshie won in the end and I bought a bottle.

So to Legend intense (LI). I tried this in a store in (my old home town) London as it was impossible to find here in France where I live, I just didn't want to blind buy. A couple of sprays on my forearm and it was love or rather 'lust' at first sniff. It just smells so lushly aromatic and classy. Fruity, woody and sweet but not cloying. The notes of red apple, pineapple, bergamot, cardamom and tonka join forces to create something incredibly alluring. In the background are some floral notes (jasmine), ambergris and oak moss on the sturdy woodsy and resinous base. I don't know what pepperwood/hercules' club smells like but perhaps it's this note that gives Legend Intense another little something special too.

A warm spring day, walking along (the typically hectic) Oxford street catching wafts of this captivating scent (I must've looked odd in the rush hour human traffic sniffing my arm every now and then, but in this eccentric city anything goes!). The evening signaled a heavy metal concert and the excellent 'Machine Head' in a packed-out, hot and sweat-inducing venue. After the show, on the train home dripping with sweat and a change of t shirt I was amazed that I could still smell the Legend Intense on my arm. Like a previous reviewer said, it (still) smelled almost good enough to eat.

Upon receiving my bottle I tested the fragrance. Sprayed at 7pm I could still smell it on my arm at 10am the morning after, it would've lasted longer if I hadn't taken a shower, so longevity is very good. Sillage and projection are more moderate but still decent. My sprayer is stiffer than on the LS bottle so it's either a big spray or nothing (maybe I got a dud), great looking bottle though, as usual with the Legend range.

With LI I have discovered (another) new favourite. I'm really impressed. To my nose this is a magnificent fragrance, class in a bottle. It beats the original as an all round, all seasons scent and is longer lasting too as you would hope for given it's name. It seems more complex and interesting than the original too, there's more going on but it never seems too much. LI is one of those fragrances that could be worn in any situation (except perhaps extreme heat) and will garner nods of approval and turn heads rather than offend. Just bear in mind you'll be continually sniffing yourself! Here's hoping the ladies like this scent as much as I do and if they don't, well they're just going to have to miss out then!

I just hope it doesn't get discontinued (if it isn't already) as it wasn't so easy to find for me. With Legend Spirit I found a gem, with Legend Intense I unearthed a real treasure. My advice-get it now.

Sweeeeet and creamy tonka, red apple and cedar.
I made the mistake one day of wearing this while lifting weights. Strangely enough, as off-putting as the sweetness was, I could never really shake the association. Now, every time I lift, I like to wear a spray of this stuff on my left forearm and have a sniff anytime I need to get angry. Hahaha. And you wouldn't like me when I'm angry...But does this really smell like a ripped guy with his shirt off? Meh. It's too sweet and powdery, really. Fierce references aside, I think it's a very good scent that takes the original Legend and adds some density and character.

The opening blast is fruity - pineapple, apple, a tinge of spiciness and a whole lot of creamy tonka. The similarity to Fierce is obvious, but this just feels more rounded around the edges. There's absolutely no citrus that I can detect, since the overwhelming impression is sugary and casual - almost like a candy apple, without the caramel. The scent remains linear, but becomes very powdery 2 hours in, almost to the point of inducing nausea in extremely hot weather. So save this stuff for the autumn, winter and spring. Longevity is ok, but the projection is weak. Decent for cuddling, but not so much for the outdoors, unless you spray your clothes.

If you're a fan of the original, you'll probably like this even more. According to the reviews online, that's pretty much universal. Personally, I really like it for its general appeal with the youngsters. In fact, 4 out of the 5 (younger) women I asked about it, prefer the smell over La Nuit. I almost crumpled in shock, but there you go. I just wish the projection was better dang it. Plus, the atomizer on my bottle is a squirter. Not sure if that's common...but it gets the job done. Overall, I would still say it's above average, especially as an all-arounder, or whenever you need to grab a little sweeeeeeet....

I love this scent!
Legend Intense is an extremely versatile fragrance that can be worn any time of year, for just about any occasion, day or night. It smells incredible and garners more compliments than other fragrances costing 10 times as much. A real winner!

Metallic Star
A fragrance that is classified as having a sweet, fruity scent, You will notice a slightly synthetic scent, Consider it the sugarier and sweeter version of its brother, Legend Montblanc.

The scent of the fragrance may last for four to five hours, and it will spread around you quickly, and you will receive compliments for it, but its drawback is the presence of a slight metallic scent that is somewhat repulsive.

The fragrance bottle comes in a slightly dark silver (metallic) color, similar to the famous Montblanc Legend edition bottles.

An autumn fragrance suitable for young men and men under the age of forty.

Conclusion: Not the best Montblanc fragrances.

Very helpful Review 20
New York Spring 2014, Macys, half an hour shopping without my wife...
...I had already snagged a fragrance that I actually didn't find that great.

Was it the charming, professionally trained salesperson, my reluctance to buy the fourth American designer jeans, or finally getting THAT New York souvenir that could withstand the test of time and remind me for years to come of the trip of my life in the city that never sleeps? Maybe it was just my latent jet lag fatigue, the sensory overload of Manhattan, and the sticky smell of the New York subway that I wanted to escape. Whatever it was...

"You could treat yourself to a new fragrance!" I thought to myself when my wife suggested we split up to enhance our shopping efficiency given the incredible size of the Macy's shopping temple. Any savvy horror movie fan knows what "We'll split up here, you go that way, I'll keep looking here..." means for the plot's progression! Nothing good.

So I wandered rather bored through the perfume and cosmetics department, being constantly approached at every stand, just like in St. Pauli or the bazaar in Marrakech. Some people like this. I don't. After my first few nerves were spent, I was really just looking for a quiet corner. In a nook near the escalators, I started chatting with an Austrian woman who was overloaded with about 47 shopping bags, and we talked about the sense and nonsense of shopping marathons. At that time, it was still ideologically free and quite amusing. But onward I went; I couldn't appear at the agreed meeting point with my wife empty-handed. I needed a NY souvenir, perfume is always a good choice. We all know that.

After the 2000s, I had finally moved past the Hugo and Boss bottled phase, and some other offshoots of this house that I had picked up in duty-free shops had long since failed to convince me. The fourth or fifth bottle of Versace pH was not going to be it for me anymore, no matter how much I had liked it as a long-time companion through my nights. Similarly, my long-standing preference for D&G had descended into the realm of insignificance, and the original version of Armani Pour Homme that I loved so dearly had vanished when I was busy with more important things in the 90s. And had I ever guessed that Jil Sander Man would stop overshadowing the fragrance heavens, I would have bought a 1000-liter IBC container full to the brim with it! I swear.

So there I stood, somewhat lost in front of a display case with elegant, beautiful, and hopelessly outdated-looking fountain pens from the house with the big white star. These ink pens, resembling unique pieces, had an unexpectedly calming effect on me amidst the noise of this hyperactive metropolis. And 'whoosh,' I was in conversation with the hyper-friendly salesperson (In America, yes, they are like that.), who praised my modest English skills and directed the conversation towards this new fragrance flanker from Montblanc. Another 10 minutes later, I had a heavy, masculine matte metallic bottle and a scent that seemed suspiciously familiar to me. This fresh sweetness didn't feel that new; I had smelled it before. But where? A little later, as the fragrance became softer, cozier, and less synthetically clean, I found it more appealing. Yet it reminded me not at all of my preferences from past years. Why did I buy this?? It was actually too blunt and pushy. No elegance to it at all. So consciously styled. It pretends to be classy but isn't heartfelt. A fraud even?

In the evening at the hotel bar on the 37th or 39th floor with a view of the UN building, I initially cursed the hastily spent dollars from our travel budget and vowed never, ever again to buy any perfume thoughtlessly or hastily. (Yes, I admit, my plan worked out great later on.) "Oh, screw it," I thought after the 7th or 8th Bud Light, "you've got the scent that will remind you of New York, you’ll never buy such soulless synthetic crap again."

The next day, we strolled along Fifth Avenue and passed by this black-clad store, in front of which dozens of teenagers were being pushed by 20-year-old six-pack beauties on the verge of a nervous breakdown (again!). My wife and I, of course, went in because we wanted to be able to join in the next party small talk. 2014 must have been the peak of this completely incomprehensible Abercrombie & Fitch hype for me. Every city back home, from Eckernförde to Füssen, from Görlitz to Castrop-Rauxel, absolutely had to have one of those dark, cramped places with grossly overpriced clothes from the sweatshops of Bangladesh. "Inside, the salespeople run around completely naked and you get doused with perfume to boost your buying urge," I had heard. Well, only the latter rumor turned out to be true. But...

...that was it. I had just bought that fragrance yesterday. "Hey guys, do you also sell fountain pens here?" I called out excitedly. No, they didn't. It must have been that Pierce thing that hit my nostrils. But I had my New York souvenir fragrance. I didn't care if it was Pierce, Fierce, or Legend; it smelled just like a spring afternoon on Fifth Avenue. Of course not, Fifth Avenue stinks of car exhaust. But everything my wife and I experienced together in those unforgettable moments in this crazy, equally fascinating and repulsive city during the first warm rays of sunshine in April 2014 immediately comes to mind when I wear Montblanc Legend Intense. Even though I don't find it that great, I enjoy smelling it. I'm about to get sentimental. And Montblanc Legend Intense really doesn't deserve that, the old fraud!

Compared to LEGEND, I find this one a bit creamier, softer. Not worse. Personally, I prefer the scratchier original.

Starts off nicely fresh and then becomes a bit bland. Still a nice all-rounder that could have had more potential.

This is one of those scents that fills the gaps! Not too heavy, not too light - perfect for summer and winter! Fruity woody! H+S is okay.

It's not exactly intense. But it smells good. Fresh and fruity, not too sweet at all. Despite the synthetic notes, it holds its own.

Fresh cardamom-pineapple opening. Quickly turns into a caramelized apple scent. Despite its intensity, it seems to be the most intimate legend.

A truly cost-effective and potent alternative to Fierce. Very long-lasting. Compliment magnet. Not something you smell on every corner.
