This ain't no masterpiece
Opened with an unusual plastic/metallic type of note which quickly morphed into a subtle amber. In final dry down a woody note appeared, blending with the amber. Very generic. Nothing to write home about.

Sillage and projection are practically non-existent. Very tight skin scent. I mean, after the first hour, it's nose to skin to detect any of the scent. No idea what the longevity is like but does it matter? For such an intimate scent, who cares if it lasts 2 hours or 20 hours?

Overall a big disappointment. "Meisterstück" is German for masterpiece. This is definitely no masterpiece. Not available yet at discounters so the retail price of $140 is way too much for what this is - basically weak amber/woody fumes.

Already Underrated
If you just read the reviews on here you'd think this was the worst fragrance ever created, an abomination and that montblanc is spitting in the face of every fragrance creator/lover out there with this creation. However at the time of this entry it has a score of 7.6 by 55 users so some people are enjoying it. I am definitely one of those people. To me this is the one of montblancs greatest and I don't care who disagrees. It's a very dark and woody fragrance for sure but there's some amber in there along with some incense that gives it this sort of inky smell, in a good way. Best of all I would classify this as a spicy - oriental - woody/smokey fragrance. Not cough out your lungs smokey but just enough to let you know that it's there. It wasn't a room filler for me but it was enough for passerbys to get a whiff of and get me quite a few compliments every time I've worn it. Lasts all day long too. Really reminds me of something that I can't quite put my finger on, probably something discontinued by Gucci or Tom Ford or something. I dunno but I really like this. for Montblanc on this one.

Such a wasted potential
I firmly believe that the performance is overrated, I very much prefer smelling great for 4 hours rather than smelling meh for 10. With that being said, this one is simply disappointing.

It opens up beautifully, reminds me a bit of Black by CDG, one of my all-time favourite designers. You get a very pleasant and easy-to-like smokiness, maybe even some warm amber and a just a touch of sweetness. For a moment it evokes the scent of high-quality paper, perhaps intentionally, considering what Montblanc is known for. And then, before it even fully develops, the scent disappears completely.

I gave it another chance on a humid and relatively warm, but not hot day, which I thought should have helped its performance. Still nothing.

I’m incredibly disappointed, I had such high hopes.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s worth trying, you should give it a go anyway, it’s really interesting, and who knows, maybe it’ll have more staying power on your skin. From me, unfortunately it’s a no, especially at this price point.

Meisterstuck? Monsterstuck. Big smell.
What a tremendous collection this Montblanc has. The four released are very good perfumes, original, purposeful, even bold. The bad thing is that designers charge us almost niche prices so we can enjoy a scent that can be confused with any other. Black Meisterstuck is a tough, solid, direct composition, just three notes that, at the top, display an incense reminiscent of Loewe Anonymous, but it doesn't go that way; this evolves into dark woods, dry, bitter, almost medicinal, and slightly amber. I imagined it would be something warmer, for winter use, but on the contrary, this could work well almost year-round. It's for dressing casually, seriously, with a frown. It is truly a rugged and distinguished perfume. Fair performance, 5 to 6 hours are enough, projected for an hour perhaps. Quite unique, except for the price it is well worth it.

Oh, come on!
Yesss, it’s a designer, I get it. Still, one should expect more than this watery concoction with no character.

Especially with the "Masterpiece," I had high hopes due to the association with the luxurious writing instrument and the focus on only two fragrance notes! Serge Lutens takes similar paths and does so with great success. So it is possible.

However, the result in this case is not even disappointing, even when you lower your expectations.

In short, there is almost nothing to say (which I will do in great detail shortly):

You have to search for the "scent" with a nasal magnifying glass; I notice absolutely nothing of the incense, neither on the test strip nor on the skin. Ambrofix is listed, but nothing comes through. I have some of these fragrance chemicals at home and trust myself to smell them. Either the concentration is simply too low or it’s something else. Overall, a very light sweetness, a hint of woodiness. That’s it... and you can either like that or not, and it doesn’t have to be bad if only the longevity and sillage were right.

The sillage is almost non-existent: I and the salesperson had to really get about 10 cm close to perceive the scent. Mind you: right after spraying.

There is no scent progression; it remains the same as when sprayed and weakens minute by minute.

The longevity is miserable as well. I was in the perfumery for about an hour and then drove home. Upon arriving home, I could hardly perceive anything close to my skin. It could be due to the interplay of my skin and the fragrance, but the same picture was presented on the test strip.

The best part of the whole thing is the bottle, which looks really nice, though it doesn’t quite hold up in terms of tactile experience. One is used to better from Montblanc... although, if the only positive aspect of a perfume is that the bottle, despite being of average quality, looks quite pretty, that’s already an olfactory confession of failure.

For the price, it’s a real disappointment: a lot of money for a hint of nothing. Maybe a few more complementary fragrance notes and a higher concentration of them would have been better?

Conclusion: Just because you own a Montblanc Meisterstück doesn’t automatically mean you create top notes. The substance must also fit.

I find this exquisite. Perhaps it lacks a bit in depth and sillage, but scent is rich and longevity is great. Think: black tie slow dance.

Charcoal? Masculine, metallic, spicy. Quite an interesting, linear composition, though at times it seems shrill.

Cool opening with woods, resinous incense, and earthy tones. However unfortunately, it devolves into just another super-amber fragrance.

an excellent and addictive fragrance, it reminds me of the smell of fountain pen ink with sugar, resins and wood.

Smoky amber and incense with a smooth balsamic-earthy base. Simple yet masterfully blended—signature-worthy and refined.
