Montblanc, if you read this .. you must get your thoughts together, the market is flooded enough with uninspired creations like The Phantom - Paco Rabanne, K from D&G or Y from YSL. We know you have the money and the talent to come with awesome products like The Individuel, Signature or Explorer!

Why bring this brand to insignificance with perfumes nobody want and making them more expensive with each launch?

Like many of you, I like when a perfume house offers value for money and for many years I was under the impression that Montblanc, licensed by Inter Parfums (Sisley, Ferragamo, Van Cleef & My Origines, etc) should have mindful investments.

Since the Explorer for Men and Signature for Ladies, Montblanc only launched flops:
- Explorer Ultra Blue (6.5),
- Legend Red (6.5) and
- Signature Absolute (7.2) which my wife likes but flies away in 2 hours.

When I saw the bottle design and the IFF Perfumer Bruno Jovanovic (Rose Incense, Bad Boy Le Parfum and Fierce from A&F) behind this creation, I had high hopes and was so curious to try it.

It starts with a strong stale smell of clary sage (similar cold mettalic one like in the H24) and nothing much else, the violet petrol like smell is very weak and some synthetic cedarwood is also barely there. And it develops into a dry sweaty gym bag after a few minutes, I had to use vegetable oil and soap and scrub this from my skin like my life depended on it.

There is absolutely nothing to like about this scent and it seems like it was launched without a clear mission in mind and why was also Natalie Lorson (Bentley Intense for Men, Lalique Encre Noir Extreme and Gentleman Givenchy Réserve Privée) needed for this?

We, Parfumos and perfume lovers, should VOTE with our money and not encourage anymore the perfume houses to launch soulless creations like these and still buy them anyway.

Easy Reach Perfume

The opening of Explorer Platinum gave me a creamy vibe with a subtle sweet coconut scent. At that point, would have classified it as unisex. As it settled and the wood scent became more prominent, changed my mind - it is definitely a masculine fragrance. Around the 30 minute mark, it really became nice with a wood note making it sharper, less creamy. Longevity is very good with decent projection - around arms length and gradually diminishing to around the 4-5 hour mark when it's down to a skin scent.

I can see it as an easy reach for everyday for a guy wanting a straightforward, pleasant scent, not trying to make a statement. Could work anytime of the year, day or night, most all situations.

Disappointment

I was eager to test it after the first promising opinions right after the premiere, which led to growing expectations that in such a weak year as 2023, some nice, masculine premiere would finally be released. And what happened? Well, that's a bummer because Explorer Platinum is unfortunately a very average, generic scent, there is absolutely nothing interesting about it. Secondary, repeating patterns that have been used dozens of times in recent years.
The scent is simple, fresh, cedar, a bit metallic, slightly herbal, smelling like a lot of other blue perfumes with a hint of fougere. There is a note here that is already well known from Sauvage and similar products, but in any case it is an average, common scent.
The parameters are good, although the projection is low, the bottle is impressive, but what's the point if there's just something inside. Versatility may be a plus, but Explorer Platinum is so colorless that it's only suitable for a quick trip to the store or to the gym.

Montblanc Explorer Platinum - An Intriguing Scent

The first time I tried it was on a tester strip in a mall. I was immediately surprised by the scent and although I did not try it on skin at that time I knew it was something that I was eventually going to get.

In terms of scent, Explorer Platinum is masculine, lightly sweet, herbal-camphorous and woody. It does share something in common with the Original Explorer and that is the Akigaliwood/Suede component. Therefore, the far dry down can be felt as synthetic due to these notes, as it was also the case with the original one. You will go nose blind on this, but not as much as with the original; I also perceive it as having more depth than the first one and not being as minimalist.
It is a creamy or buttery scent but I personally don't get any coconut, which is a good thing because I am not really a fain of it in perfumes. This is not a safe blind buy as I can see how some people might perceive the greenness which is present here as dill or even parsley! I was lucky to see their commercial months before I purchased it and because of that this one inspires to me winter, forests and snow.

In terms of performance, I got 7-8 hours on my skin but if you spray on clothes is will surely last even more. During the first hour it will be quite loud, like most of them are and then it will settle down to 1 feet for most of its life duration.

I find it very relaxing and enjoyable, definitely an office scent but can also be worn casually, of course. The scent goes into a direction of sophistication and elegance to some degree and, although you don't need to suit up for it, you can't use it with any kind of random outfit.

This is not unisex, this is for men and I think it's a solid release, to which I am going to rate as an 8/10.

Green forest
