Wisteria Blue - A Refreshing Aquatic Floral
For a while now, I’ve been curious about what the iconic Penhaligon’s Bluebell smelled like, after learning that it was one of Princess Diana’s favorite fragrances. My mother has always been interested in the late Princess of Wales, and I have my bouts of curiosity towards her, too. That being said, I’ve yet to get my hands on a decant, and a bottle would be too expensive a blind buy. That’s when I saw a number of reviews comparing Penhaligon’s Bluebell to Jo Malone’s Wild Bluebell, and the latter to this Nest fragrance. Seeing as Nest is the most affordable of the three by far, especially as I bought it on a discontinuation discount, I decided to go for it.

I cannot speak to the truth of the Penhaligon’s or Jo Malone comparisons, but I can say that Wisteria Blue is a delightfully fresh, soft, clean floral that feels effortlessly perfect for spring, or perhaps even cool summer mornings. The wisteria note in this fragrance pulls towards lilac for me, a flower I am intensely fond of; my mother grew lilacs around the house, so every spring was brought in with the breeze carrying their scent through the windows. The jasmine and rose notes aren’t quite so distinct to me here as I feel they merely support the wisteria.

There is, towards the end, a subtle depth or “darkness” to the scent, if you will. I’ve read that wisteria can have a slight note of clove to it, and I wonder if this, combined with the rose, is creating that effect? It is by no means a deterrent. I still find the scent pleasant and light even with that hint of something deeper.

As far as longevity goes, I get around 6 hours, and longer if I apply the scent to my clothes as well. The sillage is soft, so it’s a perfect scent to wear to work or around others who may be sensitive to stronger fragrances. This seems consistent across the Nest line.

The bottle shape itself is very simple, but if you’re like me and have a fondness for botanical illustrations, I’m sure you’ll appreciate the art on the bottle and the packaging. It’s quite charming!

If I had to translate the experience of wearing Wisteria Blue into a mental image, it would be this: Gentle light is pouring in through an open window on a quiet spring morning. The breeze flutters the curtains, carrying in the scent of a flower garden that is dewy from a mild rain that came overnight. You can still smell the mild soap you used to wash your bedding the day before; everything feels airy, subtly sweet, and refreshed. You can take your time enjoying it, as there’s no need to rush off anywhere. For now, you can breathe in the spring air of dew and flowers, and simply be.

Warm Shampoo
An aquatic freshie minus sharp citrus notes. Warm, clean, but requires at least 3 sprays.

The atomizer is amazing. Similar to Chanel in that it doesn't spit, it sprays evenly and lightly. The bottle is beautiful.

Overall, a fantastic scent that's inoffensive, but noticeable in all the right ways.

Perfect for all year round, but if you like to categorize your scents according to seasons, it's more of a warm weather, casual day wear type of scent.

That said, it really sparkles in cold weather.

Bright, aquatic, fresh and clean floral.
Wisteria Blue opens as a fresh and vibrant. aquatic floral that’s leans slightly green. A bouquet of citrusy magnolia, lilac, freesia, waterlily, English lavender, maybe some hyacinth all bundled up whilst the morning dew is still damp on the petals and placed in a vase with slices of fresh lemon.

To me, it’s not a true photorealistic wisteria, as I’d be expecting some lovely sweet spicy honey tones to it, reminiscent of a lilac & honeysuckle. But it’s a beautiful fragrant perfume and it’s pretty close. There’s a lovely little bit of green peppery spiciness you find in wisteria.

As it starts to settle there’s subtle hints of blonde woods and oakmoss coming through, keeping the freshness ongoing. I don’t get rose prominently here but there’s a hint of an earthy velvet floral that’s pulls the accord a little further green as it starts to dry down. In the dry down I’m getting wisteria flowers as they approach the end of bloom. Still bright and clean whiffs of lilac and waterlily but then little breezes of earthy, musky, powderiness and the faintest hint of couramin.

There is a little aroma on my skin that’s off putting here - a slightly bitter and sour, fusty smell that smells like fresh, sweet sweat that’s just about to go on the turn. But that is only when my nose is close to the skin and I honestly don’t get this when I keep the scent at arm’s length. Unlike the disappointing longevity of Indigo and Sun-kissed Hibiscus rollerball samples, Wisteria Blue has surprised me, lasting 5-6 hours today with a gentle to fair projection.

They aren’t the same, but Jo Malone’s Wild Bluebell already has my heart when I want to reach for an office friendly aquatic floral scent profile. There’s something in the clarity of the flowers and bright spicy punch the clove brings that I love, so will be sticking to that.

But this is a really beautiful bright, aquatic, fresh and clean floral, with a little green spicy undertone, if you’re a fan of that scent profile. Timeless and classic. Very likeable and enjoyable to wear. I’ll defo use up the rest of the sample.

Nostalgic floral
I enjoy this scent. A simple floral that reminds me of one of my grandmothers but also sometimes when I smell the opening notes I am reminded of the Tommy girl perfume… which I last smelled like a decade ago so don’t take my word for that. This scent disappears on me incredibly quickly, but while it is still there the dry down is nice and creamy. Disappointed in the lasting power, the bottle is clean looking and the atomizer is nice. I have no idea about the sillage. This fragrance is being discontinued and honesty if it weren’t for it being on an amazing sale I probably wouldn’t have purchased it. Not a safe blind buy (is there ever?).

Wisteria? So Confusing
I'm... not sure what I think about this. I like the smell of wisterias, but I know that they can have a lot of scents based on what cultivar you grow. So maybe the wisteria scent that I like and am familiar with is not the wisteria scent this perfume went with (which according to the notes here is French wisteria). The initial scent is fresh, light, and watery, but it settles into something so... heavy? It actually becomes a bit cloying to me after some time. Maybe that's the rose. My family (especially my mom) loves this though. Maybe I should wear it more.

Aquatic but not marine, floral but not powdery. Wisteria Blue is a fresh, clean scent. Simple and pleasant.

Soapy, watery floral that I think is pretty gender neutral. Fresh, but missing a brightness that I like in my freshies.

Aquatic in that it evokes rain or a lake. I’m not a huge fan, it doesn’t really suit me.

A fresh, sharp floral - I'm not sure if this is what wisteria smells like, but it is pleasant enough, albeit quite simple

The scent smells like laundry detergent to me and strongly reminds me of cheap, generic drugstore fragrances. Clean + synthetic.
