Indian Jasmine - Fruity, Floral...Gone?
This was my first Nest fragrance and, for the most part, I do still enjoy it as a part of my summery floral roundup. It's sweet, refreshing, bright, and fun, but unfortunately rather short-lived, and I believe that can be chalked-up to the lack of proper base notes.
Like most of the Nest scents, especially the oils, Indian Jasmine seems to be made with layering in mind, rather than intending for these fragrances to be complete themselves. None seem to last too long on their own, getting at *most* 3-4 hours, and that's with moderate to heavy application. I find that it layers best with a few different categories of fragrances:
- "neutral" skin scents
- jasmine-forward scents
- berry-forward scents
- fresh aquatics
The combinations I've had the most success with have been Nemat Amber, Lake & Skye 11 11 Azure, and MITH Another Tea, respectively. All had base notes that helped to extend the overall life of the notes within Indian Jasmine. Of the three, MITH Another Tea was my favorite, as the combined jasmine notes were lovely together, and helped bring out more of the oolong note in Another Tea. I imagine that this would pair well with a sandalwood-forward fragrances, as well, for the sandalwood enthusiasts in the audience.
But as to the scent itself, Indian Jasmine is a good beginner-friendly jasmine scent, as it does not run too indolic, heavy, or stuffy, as a number of white florals can be. Due to the lack of longevity, it does seem a bit expensive, but the oil does feel nice once absorbed into the skin. Berry-lovers will appreciate the fruity notes, and those who enjoy jasmine may or may not, depending on how strong they prefer their florals to be. I find it projects best in warmer weather, even though that inevitably leads to a shorter longevity.
Unfortunately, following the Nest rebrand, I cannot say I agree with the change in design to the bottles, and I worry that the fragrance may have been reformulated. I noticed that the newer batches of Indigo smell weaker, but have yet to complete a comparison between my older bottle of Indian Jasmine and the new stock. I would advise testing newer bottles of the fragrance for yourself before committing to a purchase, even if you have previously owned a Nest product, in the event that a reformulation has indeed occurred.
