Why the hype
I honestly don't understand the hype around this one. For layering it is indeed a fairly good smell, to sweeten and deepen up any other perfume, but alone? To me, it is a synthetic mess of burnt vanilla. Vanilla is indeed prominent, but has some rubbery bitterness to it that makes it extremely unpleasant. The initial impression is creamy but it quickly turns in your face artificial and stays this way until it wears out. Longevity is pretty good for a perfume oil, but this is rather a downside. I don't get any coconut or cashmere notes, only this syrup-y plain synthetic vanilla. It is by far not the best smell among Nest's oils.

Cheap Alternative Found
Dupe: Vanilla Musk by Sand + Fog (usa based)

Nest Madagascar Vanilla perfume oil... This is a warm vanilla, and the drydown evolves into a toasted vanilla with a prominent coconut scent. A nice feminine summer scent! I have a sample currently, and recommend everyone else get a sample to test the dry down. But in my opinion, this oil is way too expensive and overhyped.
Similar to: This smells more refined than Bath and Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar. Also smells similar to Philosophy Warm Cashmere...

Beautiful, soft vanilla - excellent for layering
This is so delicate - sweet without being headache inducing. The coconut is definitely present, and adds a creaminess that boosts the vanilla. The vanilla orchard in it also makes it feel fresh. The projection isn’t super strong, kind of floaty, but the longevity is nice. It is a perfume oil, so it’s excellent for layering with just about anything with vanilla present.

Artificial Coconut-Vanilla Soup from the Test Tube
For over ten days, I eagerly awaited the delivery of my little Discovery Kit of the Nest perfume oils. And 10 minutes before the store closed today on Saturday, I received the message that the package had arrived. After a really tough week at the office with a cold, I was still in bed… but I sprinted out and actually made it.

At the café around the corner, I couldn't wait and unpacked my "treasure." Right away, a cloud of scent wafted towards me. Of course, I had to test "Madagascar Vanilla | Nest" first. Is my search for the perfect vanilla finally over? 8.6 points can't be lying.

I applied it to my wrist. First impression… okeeeyyy… mehhh…. Is this going anywhere? But just 10 minutes later, I am sure: no. On the way home, disappointment is written all over my face.

The scent doesn’t develop, it remains straightforward and stubbornly COCONUT VANILLA from the test tube. My sensitive little head starts to show signs of a headache. Something about it reminds me of the base note of "Erba Pura | XerJoff"… somehow “aggressively soft” and artificial. And of the candle section in the Swedish furniture store. This is exactly how the artificial vanilla of my childhood and youth smelled, which is where my decades-long aversion to vanilla scents originated. A total flop.

Now I sit here feeling a bit naive and foolish for falling for the hype on social media and swear to myself that I won't make any more blind buys.

But maybe, just maybe, I will like the other perfume oils better… or it will work with layering.

Hope dies last, after all. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

it smells like a cheap generic vanilla at first, but in the drydown it turns into a warm, comforting vanilla with a hint of coconut

The warmest, deepest vanilla I own. Sweet but not sugary. Great for layering or on its own if you want something warm and cozy.

Smells nothing like vanilla to me, just straight up toasted coconuts.

Impression after day 2: Slightly waxy vanilla and a hint of coconut. Scented candle meets vacation. One-dimensional. Good for layering. Not a must.

Flashback to my youth when scented items were sold. Erasers, pens, bags,... I had a vanilla rubber duck.

Starts off as a tropical, sultry-warm vanilla & then dries down to a rich roasted coconut with vanilla in the background.
