It's almost winter again, at least there have already been very frosty nights, cold days, and 10 cm of snow, remnants of which still lie everywhere. Therefore, I currently prefer resinous, woody scents and strong floral orientals as comfort.
And just now, the "Vespri Orientale," which I had added to my watchlist some time ago, arrives at my home. A lovely attentive user has sent it to me.
This time I looked here first because I initially had no association with it and couldn't remember. And I see: There is no comment. How did I come across "Vespri Orientale"? But looking at the pyramid, I know that I was interested in the combination of oud with hesperidic notes. I have actually neither perceived nor tested such a scent until now. Would "Vespri Orientale" be a special oud fragrance?
As expected, "Vespri Orientale" starts with a rich citrus scent blend, juicy, slightly bitter and tart, yet also balsamic and honey-like, creamy. I perceive fresh mint and lemon balm. Above all, this honey-like lemon balm note suggests to me that labdanum must also be involved, even if it is not listed.
Due to the dominance of the hesperidic notes, "Vespri Orientale" has, as expected, a Cologne character, albeit a weak one. This is because, at least for me, I perceive every scent that primarily smells of citrus this way.
However, for a Cologne, "Vespri Orientale" is far too intense, too opulent, too sweet, too creamy. From the jasmine, I only perceive a sweet heavy floral scent that fits the fragrance perfectly. I had thought this floral scent was orange blossom, enchanting but not animalistic.
After wearing this beautiful scent, which seems to burst with juicy sun-ripened citrus fruits, one almost feels as if they have the fresh honey-sweetened juice in front of them, additionally flavored with fresh mint, for a while, I realize: Oud is supposed to be added. Likewise, I can neither perceive patchouli nor cedar.
What I do not miss in this scent. They may still contribute to the overall scent of "Vespri Orientale."
And after about 2 hours, I do perceive an additional slightly sweaty and, for me, initially rather disturbing oud note in this hesperidic scent.
I sense the oud more as a suspicion than as something I can really smell out; I only perceive the slightly piercing sweaty odor.
And with the effect of this oud note, "Vespri Orientale" becomes more austere, the sweetness, the scent of citrus fruits in the sun transforms more into a green lime scent.
I find "Vespri Orientale" very interesting and different compared to other perfumes with oud.
When I tried to describe the individual scent notes, I can say that "Vespri Orientale" is a consistently and uniformly scented perfume from the very beginning that transforms as an overall scent over time. Nothing falls apart here, nor do I perceive synthetic notes.
However, anyone expecting an oud-heavy scent will be disappointed. I, for one, waited for the oud note for a while.
However, upon reconsidering and evaluating the scent and drafting a comment, I concluded that there should not be such oud dominance in this scent arrangement. Otherwise, it would be an unbalanced fragrance, intrusive and possibly even disgusting.
But now, after several hours, I like "Vespri Orientale" more and more. It is a somewhat rural scent. It smells of citrus fruits and of working in the sun, where people emit a light scent of fresh sweat from the effort and heat.
However, when I now enter the room where I tested "Vespri Orientale," there is no trace of sweaty notes; it smells pleasantly tart of citrus fruits and peels, as well as slightly of mint with a light creamy note.
"Vespri Orientale" is not a refreshing summer cologne for me. However, it is a serious unisex scent for everyday wear.
