Warding off the evil eye

Sharp, salty, spicy opening — but honestly, pretty interesting. It didn’t push me away. It kind of hits you in the face with something that smells like… ritual, fire, dry earth, and blazing sun. Like an aromatic punch.
I get a lot of salt, anise, and basil, but underneath it all there's something thicker going on. Super complex — kind of like when I was trying to wrap my head around Double Bond. Same level of multi-layered weirdness, in a good way!
After 15–20 minutes, it opens up into something warmer and a bit sweeter — but not pastry-sweet. More of a dry-sweet, lightly caramelized kind of smell.
Then, not long after, the woods and musks start coming through.
Overall, I find it a pretty introspective scent. Definitely one to try!

Unfortunately, No Best Friends

NRW had the school holidays come to an end and Peter closed the floodgates. My spice and tea supplies were also running low, so a day trip to "next door" Venlo was on the agenda. The city on the Maas has captivated me. Modern buildings next to old houses and winding alleys.

As always, a visit to the first fragrance address in Venlo was on the list. The small shop near the town hall is a paradise for fragrance fans. I always stop by to chat with the friendly owners, and the atmosphere is always great since I have a rough command of the local language. That quickly breaks the ice.

The shop window with its unique decoration attracted me and many other people like a magnet. It was clear that I wanted to test this fragrance. Should we become best friends, I would also buy it.

The opening was oddly dusty with dried herbs and something strangely sweet in it. Then it became more robust with dry straw flower and woods. Aquatic notes were absent, but caramel was present. The latter, along with vanilla, is always a ticklish matter for me. It didn't work here either. The dry down was then a peculiar mixture where I searched in vain for even a hint of patchouli, which I love. All in all, nothing for me. Insipid and a bit flat.

We did not become best friends, and not even after a second test. I later chose a different fragrance.

The bottle is subtly oriental and appealing. It has something that I like.

The Happiness in the Eye - Protection from the Evil Eye

I was in Venlo yesterday at this small, beautiful owner-operated perfumery. The window was incredibly and extravagantly decorated. People stopped and took photos. Large red chili peppers hung from the ceiling, and in the middle was this new, very extravagant scent. Everything was bathed in a fresh blue, red, and blue. It attracted people. Since I know the gentlemen well, I went in and had them spray Anti Malocchio on me. I also received an explanation about the scent right away... it is supposed to be the scent of happiness that protects us from evil eyes and negative moods. I thought it was a great idea; we all need that, and preferably in a 5-liter canister (laugh)
But now let's get to the fragrance, my first impression is a cloud full of aromatic herbs underlined with a gentle sweetness. I perceive floral notes very delicately; the straw flower with its dry, slightly bitter note is easily recognizable, and my always highly appreciated patchouli rises to my nose. The scent is a "gentle rauling" but very harmonious and rounded. I keep sniffing my arm, extraordinary, unisex with a good but very skin-close presence. I liked it immediately; after a few hours, it becomes more subdued but is still well perceivable. I would estimate the longevity at 6-8 hours. Slightly smoky notes surround the beautiful scent that is supposed to protect me from now on!!!
For me, it is a very harmonious, never overwhelming newcomer in the finish. It's pleasant to not smell like a fruit basket or an extreme bouquet of flowers. To me, the perfume has something very beautifully natural with a slightly woody-smoky herbal note that is very delicately powdery-sweet. Could happiness smell like this? Sure, why not. The price is about 125 euros. It was a very good purchasing decision for me. Oh yes, I forgot to mention that as a small gift, you receive a red chili pepper as a charm and lucky charm in a red jewelry box - a very nice idea.

It’s very odd at first as you are taken through a basil note. The scent leans male but also female. Depending on who does the cooking. Very satisfying
