Chanel's Allure Pour Homme?
Still Life in Rio is warm and spicy, despite the opening citrus. I always loved the smell of chili peppers. DEFINITELY worth sampling. A new favorite. Reminds me of Chanel's Allure Pour Homme.

caipirinha in a bottle
Exotic and luminous, an infectious and fun fragrance that manages to capture the warmth and character of vibrant Rio perfectly.
The fragrance is bursting with zesty citruses elevated by mint and ginger. The warm heart is accentuated by a cocktail of pepper and the smooth, creaminess of coconut milk. Brazilian Copaiba balm adds body and depth, and a delicious rum accord carries the fragrance long into the night.
Performance is very good for a freshie, but projection is average

The Cocktail Baby
What happens when "Virgin Island Water" and "Still Life" have a baby? Yep, you guessed it.

I actually trust our community here - but with "Still Life in Rio," I just had to get my own impression as quickly as possible. The fact that a kind of flanker is now being introduced in the niche is rather unpleasant and hopefully won't create a ripple effect, but the original is just too good to prejudge a version with a South American coconut vibe. One should never do that anyway, but due to the concentrated Parfumo power, it's not always feasible.

And what can I say, I personally had the right nose here - so much so that after a short test yesterday at the Parfumo meeting in Düsseldorf, I even bought it right away. Without hesitation. 100ml. It couldn't be helped. No wrong decision, as it turns out, because I like "Still Life in Rio" not only in the top note but overall. Okay, I admit, it hardly changes over time, yet it is one of the finest cocktail scents I know. A kind of CK One Summer 2014, but thicker, balsamic, and of higher quality.

The fact that some people find it rather unpleasant, cheap, and overpowering, I can only explain by its party-ready youthfulness. It is extremely sugary, extremely fun-oriented, extremely immature - and that's exactly why it's recommended for young people (and the young at heart). Brazilian vibes, summer, zest for life, sexy rhythms - all in the bottle. Maybe a bit too sticky and cloying, but I can handle it.

Yes, especially the citrus notes in the original are better; it is probably the (still) better fragrance. Nevertheless, every fragrance addict should not shy away from the Rio version. Sugary coconut, synthetic lemon, a bit of rum, and a lot of sunshine in the heart - just my thing. Whether New York, Rio, Tokyo, as the trio already knew, this funny party bomb always works, especially in July!

Bottle: even for large hands, the 100ml bottles are hard to hold... but otherwise, the presentation is excellent as always.
Sillage: you can't go wrong even at 30 degrees - despite a lot of sugar, it's casual, youthful, pleasant.
Longevity: 5 hours, then it's time to reapply. Not bad at all.

Conclusion: I can't understand the majority of negative reviews & I’m heading straight to the outdoor pool to treat myself to a cocktail - "Still Life in Rio" is a bit sticky & appeals more to the younger generation, but it does so wholeheartedly. Let the Olympics in Rio come! I want vacaaaation!!!

A perhaps too long comment for an epic fragrance that doesn't deserve the many negative statements
My interest in the fragrances of Olfactive Studio was sparked by a sample of Lumière Blanche. While this scent is not one I would wear myself, I found it intriguing and pleasant. Additionally, I like the design of the bottles, and so I am currently in the process of testing all the scents.

I tested Still Life in Rio in Düsseldorf at a small perfume shop. The somewhat unfriendly gentleman showed me this perfume, and already on the test strip, the scent had won my heart. The man's grim expression did not prevent my gasps and a big grin on my face. So I asked him to spray it on my skin as well. After that, I left the store and made my way to the car. Before that, I had been at Schnitzler and bought two Guerlains; whether I found the scent so brilliant due to all the happy hormones or if it really is that brilliant... More on that below.

To begin with: I am not familiar with the scent Still Life, whether that is good or bad I do not wish to judge. But perhaps this is important information for some of you... I have often read that Still Life is supposed to be miles better than Still Life in Rio. If that is really the case, it means my olfactory demise. Still Life in Rio is already epic stuff; what would Still Life do to my senses?!

But I digress a bit... You now know that I do not know Still Life and where I tested Still Life in Rio. For those who have not switched off yet, here is finally some reading material about the scent:

I am somewhat shocked by the negative statements about Still Life in Rio. How can that be? On the test strip, the scent smelled simply magnificent, so I fell in love. On my skin, that love turned into true love. Even my boyfriend thought the scent was great, and he is quite often annoyed by my perfume obsession.

The scent ends as it starts, and the middle part has little change. Some may like it; most find it a shame. I belong to the group that does not mind this - on the contrary, I sometimes really enjoy it. I know what to expect, and there is no unpleasant note that one has to endure, knowing it will be good again later. With Still Life in Rio, it remains equally brilliant from start to finish. Only the lemons from the beginning fade away after a while and recede a bit into the background.

It starts off citrusy. It is not a full, plump, fresh lemon like when you smell it while freshly pressing. It is a cake lemon note, like when baking, very present, very loud, somewhat synthetic, yet refreshing. This fades after a while but remains subtly in the background. What remains is sticky, refreshing, pure good mood: a moist, cheerful coconut, rum, sugar, Caribbean party.
The coconut also does not smell fresh after preparation but is more like a coconut water with a splash of rum.
Do you know that sugar rim on drinks? That’s exactly how this stuff smells. You feel like you are drinking a delicious cocktail with that sugar rim. I absolutely cannot get my nose off my wrist. I keep being drawn back there. Especially in summer, the scent is heavenly. This good mix of sticky sweet and refreshing is very pleasant. I do not perceive mint and pepper at all; however, those components surely play their part in this Caribbean cocktail. Ginger keeps the sweet notes in check; it provides a kick and helps give the scent a certain maturity. Still Life in Rio is sweet, sticky, playful, and somehow refreshing, but definitely not childish or immature. The comparison to a flamboyant person, as made in the statements, is also off. Of course, it is a bit flashy, but whether it is pepper or ginger that makes it mature, the scent is not flamboyant. And if it is, then I just like to smell like I’m at a flamboyant ball.

In addition to the extremely good scent, I am surprisingly convinced by the longevity. I never thought it would last so long. Even the next morning, I can sniff myself and smell it. The sillage is okay, not a monster, but especially in the first hours, it is present.

Conclusion: I would have never believed I would write such a long comment. I often digressed, but I always had the heavenly Still Life in Rio in mind, pardon... in my nose. That really means a lot: apparently, the scent has stolen my sanity. It is a refreshing, sticky summer cocktail that spreads good vibes and lingers on the skin for a long time. For those who like coconut, rum (with a low alcohol content), and lemon, and want to lick the cane sugar off the cocktail glass rim: go for it!

The Pure Rio Cliché - Citrus-Coconut Cocktail with (the increasingly established) Synthetic Magic Veil
I am not a fan of cliché vacations. I find the tourist crowds in Paris dreadful, pushing tightly up to Sacré-Coeur, where there is actually nothing to see except for bad street art and thin smoggy air, and I prefer to linger in the less crowded neighborhoods like Saint-Germain.

No, what Olfactive Studio delivers here is a single cliché. Name three foods that make you think of Rio: Limes? Bam! Coconuts? Swoosh! Rum? Yippee!

I don't even want to say that these aromas shouldn't play a role in a correspondingly named fragrance. But this is executed so carelessly that it sends shivers down my spine. The first 2 minutes are still refreshingly stylish, quite sparkling, lively, energetic.

But then the coconut water pushes overwhelmingly to the forefront. On top of that, it is covered with a milky clean synthetic veil, just as it is written in the book. Not far removed from the flavoring additives of the category Caribbean flair.

I don’t know, I don’t understand. I also don’t want to accept it anymore. Why do 95% of all fresh fragrances released in the last 2-3 years have to be drowned in it to the point of nausea? It doesn’t matter whether it’s Iso-E-Super, Ambroxan, or whatever? I almost stumble over it. Hardly any fragrance that simply stands on its own and builds aroma palettes and unfolds. Everything is thickly painted with this disgustingly antiseptically pure, freshly laundered, yet artificially closed hygienic touch. Ugh! No!

Nothing else follows after 1-2 hours. Haha! How could it? Iso-E fixes this citrus-coconut freshness in such a wonderfully otherworldly way, like hairspray fixes a chalk drawing in school art class. Count me out. The 4th of 4 total failures from Olfactive for me. Not my brand...

A lot of sour lemon with coconut - rum, leather, not for me. Somehow it all doesn't fit. Rio? That feeling just doesn't come.
