A Modern, Edgy Take on a Classic Floral
Violet Shot is a fragrance for those that like a break from tradition; it is a bold and creative scent that is elegant yet easy to wear. Its green and leathery notes lend to the scent being equally fitting for men and women, and its unique complexity allows the transition from day to night with ease. Violet Shot also performs well, with good projection and longevity at a very respectable level; yet, it is a sophisticated scent. This is a redefined violet fragrance, a shot of modernity that intellectually stimulates while being equally sensory indulgent to wear.

Stunning
I generally only contribute "Statements", but this perfume is special and deserves a proper review.

I've been a fan of Dominique Ropion for quite some time. My introduction to him was via Une Fleur de Cassie (Malle), one of the most beautiful florals ever made. From UFdC, I moved to Dune (Dior), another masterpiece that fully consumed me.

Dozens of obsessions later (Lancome's Jasmins Marzipan, Jusbox's Live N Loud, etc.) , we've arrived at Violet Shot. I was expecting something akin to Aimez-Moi (Caron) that Ropion created in the mid 90s, a lovely, bright violet with lots of mint and anise. This actually reminds me more of Ropion's other leather-based creations instead.

It shares the same delicious vibe as Vanagloria (Laboratorio Olfattivo) and Babycat (YSL) - a saffron-leather-vanilla accord that I find irresistible. This house is known for front-loading their scents - meaning all the cash goes to the topnotes (see Iris Shot), and Violet Shot is no exception - the topnote is a stunning green violet with citrus undertones that I can't get enough of. What's left after is a lovely pleasant hum of alpha-ionone, something green, and a quality vanilla, which lasts for a respectable amount of time.

I have a personal dislike for the shade of burnt-orange they chose for the bottles in this series, and at retail, these are hardly affordable, but this one, my friend....this one is worth the money. Like Lutens' Feminité du Bois series, the violet variation works best (see Bois de Violette).

Rich, luxurious, and satisfying - a must-try for everyone, and yet another masterwork from one of the best perfumers working today.

Desire Perfume Spring
After a short intermezzo here a few years ago, I have dived back into the world of fragrances fully for a few weeks now. I have read a lot here and expanded my wish list.
At the same time, I acquired a lovely little book about perfumes, in which perfumes are categorized by desires, and I sent off a sample order to ALzD.
Three fragrances from Olfactive Studios are included, this one spontaneously, because I like violets, and it was also my first scent test today - and what can I say - I am totally blown away.
My current desire is probably for spring and light - the fragrance starts radiant, bright, and light - I feel like I am in a flower meadow on a cool, radiant spring morning, the violet scent dances around me. The scent of freshly cut grass and violets remains present throughout, the grass brings a slight sharpness that makes the fragrance exciting. Over time, Violet Shot develops warmer, softly floral, as if the morning dew is drying up, a light spiciness appears. I think the fragrance really lifts my spirits and is simply beautiful. Exactly what I need when winter still doesn’t want to leave and the longing for spring grows stronger.
It has the right "strength" for me, well perceivable, but not overwhelming.

It is moving to the top of my wish list.

Opens with a stunning green violet that brilliantly transitions to the saffron-vanilla-suede base that Ropin has perfected. My fav violet.

Beautiful grassy green violet scent, arranged to be more aromatic and spicy than floral, and feels very pleasant due to the lack of sweetness.

The initially green-fresh violet seeks a spicy-warm-resinous counterpart & finds it (Patch, vanilla & benzoin). Convincing mix.

The Fahrenheit violet without gasoline and punch, but set off with green and earthy-resinous notes. The base is the highlight.

Opposites only attract to a certain extent. The cool, fresh violet leaf meets sweet vanilla and earthy patchouli. Interesting...

This violet is not sweet, but rather herb-fresh with a peppery kick. Later, vanilla and patchouli join in, making it warm and spicy.
